Boston Bruin David Krejci celebrated his game-winning goal with teammate Milan Lucic.
San Jose @ Boston 1-2 - The San Jose Sharks were less than one second from remaining the only team in the NHL without a regulation loss. Then David Krejci tipped Adam McQuaid's shot from the right point past Antti Niemi with 0.8 seconds remaining, and the Boston Bruins won a battle of red-hot goaltenders, 2-1 Thursday at TD Garden. After the Sharks surrendered the first goal of the game late in the second period, they wasted little time in the third tying it. Marc-Edouard Vlasic stole Dennis Seidenberg's pass up the left wall and wristed the puck at Rask from the left point. Patrick Marleau flipped in the rebound with 18 seconds elapsed, ending Rask's shutout streak at 106:18. The Sharks nearly grabbed the lead 20 seconds later when Joe Thornton fed Tomas Hertl during a 2-on-1, but Rask kept the puck out of the net. Later in the period Rask had to stack his pads to thwart a Jason Demers scoring chance. Early in the period Shawn Thornton skated into the San Jose zone alone after an indirect pass from the Boston zone to the red line by Torey Krug. Thornton's slap shot from the top of the right circle rang off the left post. Niemi kept the game knotted at 0-0 with a great right-to-left move to rob Patrice Bergeron on the back end of a 2-on-1 with Brad Marchand at 17:09. Finally, with 1:12 remaining before the second intermission, the Bruins got on the board on Jarome Iginla's first goal with Boston. Seidenberg's shot from the left point was tipped wide by Krejci. The puck then deflected to the right side of the slot, where Iginla hammered the puck off the inside of Niemi's right pad and through the five-hole for a 1-0 lead.
Cam Talbot makes one of his 25 saves but loses his Rangers debut 2-1 in Philadelphia.
NY Rangers @ Philadelphia 1-2 - Braydon Coburn's goal 3:33 into the third period broke a tie as the Flyers beat the New York Rangers 2-1 for their second victory in nine games this season. Coburn stepped into a slap shot just inside the blue line after the Rangers failed to clear the zone and ripped it through a screen by Wayne Simmonds and past rookie goalie Cam Talbot for his second goal of the season. The Rangers appeared to have tied the game at 5:36 of the third period when goaltender Steve Mason deflected a shot only to see the puck hit the leg of forward J.T. Miller and carom into the net. But after a video review, Miller was ruled to have used a distinct kicking motion to direct the puck into the net, and the goal was waved off. The Flyers jumped in front 9:07 into the game thanks to a misplay by New York's Derick Brassard, who was playing the right point on the power play. Brassard whiffed as he tried to move the puck, Read grabbed it, raced in and snapped a shot between the legs of Talbot for his first goal and first point of the season. Richards, one of the few bright lights for the Rangers during their early-season struggles, tied the game with 1:04 remaining in the period. Richards grabbed John Moore's pass down the left wall and flung it at the net from near the boards, just above the goal line. The shot hit Coburn and went past Mason, giving Richards his fifth goal of the season on a team that has scored a League-low 12 times in eight games. It also ended a goal drought of 105:05 for the Rangers, who hadn't scored since late in the second period of their 2-0 road win against the Washington Capitals last Wednesday. Talbot made two excellent saves during the Flyers' third power play of the game after Brian Boyle of the Rangers was called for unsportsmanlike conduct at 6:02 of the middle period. He robbed Vincent Lecavalier from the slot a few seconds into the man advantage, then denied Brayden Schenn's deflection 45 seconds later. He also got some help from his posts in the middle period, as Kimmo Timonen caught iron with a slap shot 3:00 in and Luke Schenn did the same about 10 minutes later. New York's penalty killers were put to the test again when Benoit Pouliot was given a major for boarding and a game misconduct at 17:00 of the second period for sending Max Talbot into the boards face-first. Talbot was helped off the ice but returned early in the third period. Cam Talbot kept the game tied in the final seconds of the power play when he robbed Brayden Schenn, who was alone in the slot.
HKN Duck Canadiens 20131024

Anaheim @ Montreal 1-4 - Saku Koivu's Anaheim Ducks weren't able to get him a win Thursday as Tomas Plekanec had a goal and two assists and Carey Price made 31 saves to lead the Canadiens to a 4-1 victory. But the game's result was overshadowed by what came afterward, with Koivu receiving a lengthy standing ovation from the fans who cheered him on for 14 years in a Canadiens uniform, the final 10 of them as captain. The line of Tomas Plekanec, rookie Michael Bournival and captain Brian Gionta has been rolling lately for the Canadiens, taking over the offensive burden from the line of Lars Eller, Alex Galchenyuk and Brendan Gallagher. Plekanec has four goals and three assists in his past four games, Bournival extended his point streak to four games, with two goals and three assists in that span, and Gionta has two goals and two assists in four games. Patrick Maroon scored the lone goal and Jonas Hiller made 21 saves for the Ducks (7-3-0), who have lost two straight to start their season-long eight-game road trip. The crowd had a chance to cheer the Habs' former captain during the singing of "The Star- Spangled Banner" prior to the game as the Canadiens showed Koivu standing on the blue line on the scoreboard. When the game was no longer in doubt late in the third period, the fans began to chant "Saku! Saku! Saku!" and gave him a standing ovation with 18.7 seconds left in the game as he lined up for a faceoff and once again was shown on the scoreboard. Those fans continued chanting Koivu's name after the final buzzer, and as he came onto the ice as the game's third star, the crowd erupted into a long ovation. He acknowledged his former Canadiens teammates Francis Bouillon and Plekanec, who was named the game's first star, watching from the Montreal bench and raised his stick in the air to the fans, who refused to sit down. Finally, Koivu took a bow and departed, even though the cheers didn't appear to be slowing down. The crowd reaction was probably helped by the win from the home team, which appeared inevitable right from the start of the game. The Canadiens came out flying from opening puck drop and the Ducks looked sluggish, taking two minor penalties and managing just one shot on goal by the time Montreal opened the scoring at 11:39 when Bournival established position in front of Hiller and tipped home a Nathan Beaulieu point shot for his second goal of the season. A little less than five minutes later, Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf fanned on a clearing attempt from deep in his zone, with the puck landing on Bournival's stick at the top of the circles. He quickly passed it over to Plekanec for a one-timer that beat Hiller clean at 16:32 for his fifth of the season. Montreal extended the lead to 3-0 in the second when Gionta scored on a two-man advantage at 11:49. The Ducks cut the lead by one at 8:58 on Maroon's first goal of the season off a Nick Bonino feed on a 2-on-1 break, but the Canadiens got that one right back on the power play when Rene Bourque stepped out of the penalty box and scored his third goal of the season on a backhand shot through Hiller's legs at 12:39.
Goalie Carter Hutton and Shea Weber of the Nashville Predators skate against Dustin Byfuglien of the Winnipeg Jets at Bridgestone Arena on October 24, 2013 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Winnipeg @ Nashville 2-3 OT - Winnipeg's Blake Wheeler tied the game with 3:01 remaining in the third period after Hutton kicked a rebound right to his stick that was sent into an open net. Nashville, 5-1-1 in its past seven games, had several good chances to score in overtime, but Smith's game-winner was the Predators' only official shot on goal. Jets forward Evander Kane made a weak clearing pass from his defensive zone that bounced away from teammate Dustin Byfuglien to Predators forward David Legwand. He delivered a pass to wide-open Smith, whose low one-timer from the left faceoff dot beat Ondrej Pavelec. Nashville's Patric Hornqvist broke a 1-1 tie 6:04 into the third period, also on a rebound and a lucky bounce. Seth Jones fed Mike Fisher skating up the right wing, and his shot from the boards was steered away by Pavelec. But it eluded three backchecking Jets and landed right on Hornqvist's stick; his patient wrist shot sailed over Pavelec's glove. Nashville opened the scoring with a power-play goal from Shea Weber 15:53 into the game. After Kane's shorthanded attempt was turned away, Filip Forsberg sent a long cross-ice pass to Legwand at the red line along the left-wing wall. He waited for Weber, who took the pass up the middle and launched a shot over Pavelec's blocker. Winnipeg tied the game with 6:11 to go in the second period on Anthony Peluso's first goal of the season. Michael Frolik gained possession by knocking down the puck with his glove. He fed Peluso entering the offensive zone, and Olli Jokinen received a back pass. He returned it to Peluso, who skated behind the net and emerged at Hutton's right post for the wraparound goal. Hutton nearly made the stop with his stick while diving back, but video review confirmed the puck crossed the goal line before being batted back out.

Carolina @ Minnesota 1-3 - The first, goal, a power-play goal by Minnesota's Nino Niederreiter, gave the Wild the lead at 11:39 of the first. It was Niederreiter's first career power-play goal and came off a pretty behind-the-back feed by Granlund from behind the net. A little more than three minutes later, the Wild made it 2-0 when Zach Parise knocked a loose puck out of midair after a shot by Jared Spurgeon hit the post. But the Wild struggled after that and clearly lost a bit of intensity once they gained the two-goal edge. They got sloppy too. Granlund and Dany Heatley each committed penalties in the first four minutes of the second period, and with one second remaining on Heatley's slashing minor, Alexander Semin made it 2-1 when he ripped a one-timer from the left circle past Harding at 6:01. Backstrom entered in the third with the Hurricanes having 1:45 remaining on a power play, and he made a couple of big saves to get into a groove early. With less than two minutes to play, Radek Dvorak was sent to the box for a high-sticking penalty, hindering a potential Hurricanes rally. Heatley scored an empty-netter, his first goal of the season, at 19:34, providing the final margin.

Washington @ Edmonton 4-1 - Ovechkin opened the scoring at 18:13 of the opening period when he wired a shot over Dubnyk from the top of the right circle after Marcus Johansson won a faceoff in the Oilers' zone. Prior to the goal, the Oilers had a number of scoring opportunities, but Holtby kept them off the scoreboard. Ward made it 2-0 at 15:35 of the second, when he got a stick on Karl Alzner's point shot and tipped it past Dubnyk. The goal originally was awarded to Chimera, who hails from Edmonton and started his career with the Oilers, but it was changed during the intermission. Johansson set up Backstrom's tap-in 1:24 into the third period before Chimera got a goal that was unquestionably his by taking a feed behind the Oilers defense from Mikhail Grabovski and beating Dubnyk over his glove hand with 6:37 remaining.
