Toronto @ Columbus 2-5 - Brandon Dubinsky scored a 4-on-3 shorthanded goal to give the Blue Jackets a 3-1 lead, and he assisted on Ryan Johansen's empty-net goal with 27 seconds left after the Maple Leafs had pulled to within one. That was followed by a goal from Nick Foligno with seven seconds to go to cap a win more than 10 years in the making. Blue Jackets rookie defenseman Ryan Murray scored his first NHL goal for a 1-0 lead in the first period, but Phil Kessel tied the score in the second to set up a wild third. The Maple Leafs (7-4-0) did make it 3-2 at 15:30 when Dave Bolland scored an even-strength goal off a rebound of a Paul Ranger shot. Clarkson's third shift resulted in him going to the penalty box for hooking, and the Blue Jackets took advantage at 4:55 on the goal by Murray, the second pick in the 2012 NHL Draft who missed most of last season in junior hockey after undergoing reconstructive shoulder surgery in November. Murray skated deep from the right and was in position for the goal after James Wisniewski's shot from the left point was redirected by R.J. Umberger off the right post. The puck settled in the crease and Murray poked it in before Bernier could react. Kessel, who had three goals Tuesday against the Anaheim Ducks in a 4-2 win, erased the lead 40 seconds into the second period, but the third belonged to the Blue Jackets. Marian Gaborik's fifth goal of the season put Columbus ahead 2-1 at 3:12 of the third. He took a pass from behind the net from Foligno and one-timed the puck off the body of Bernier. Bernier was better a few minutes later stopping a shorthanded breakaway by Artem Anisimov by closing the pads on a backhand attempt to keep the Maple Leafs within striking distance. But Bernier was beaten on Toronto's next power play, a 4-on-3, when Dubinsky skated to the right circle, used teammate Mark Letestu as a decoy, and snapped a shot over the glove at 12:27 for a two-goal lead
Anaheim @ Ottawa 2-1 - Ryan Getzlaf had a goal and an assist, and Patrick Maroon scored for a second straight game to lead Anaheim to a 2-1 win against the Ottawa Senators on Friday at Canadian Tire Centre. Andersen stuck out his left pad at 11:30 of the third period to deny Ryan's scoring chance on a pass from Kyle Turris with Ottawa on a power play. Minutes after this game, the Ducks announced Andersen had signed a two-year contract extension. Corey Perry assisted on first-period goals by Maroon and Getzlaf that gave the Ducks a 2-0 lead. Mika Zibanejad drew Ottawa within one with his first goal on a power-play at 9:04 of the second. Teemu Selanne was left out of the Ducks' lineup for the second time this season. Selanne, who played in a 4-1 loss at the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday, is not expected to play games on consecutive days this season. Getzlaf and Perry, split up in the second period against the Canadiens, spurred the Ducks' offense in the first period Friday. Maroon, who scored his first goal of the season Thursday, took Perry's pass from behind the net and beat Anderson with a shot from the slot at 7:35. Getzlaf made it 2-0 with his fourth goal at 17:38. Anderson left the puck behind the net for Karlsson, who was pressured by Maroon on the forecheck and turned over the puck. Anderson stopped Perry's initial shot but Getzlaf put away the rebound. Zibanejad scored when he drove a slap shot past Andersen from the right point. Zibanejad has a goal and an assist in two games since he was recalled from the Binghamton Senators of the AHL on Tuesday. Ottawa goon Chris Neil took a roughing penalty on the next faceoff when he struck Maroon after the two exchanged words before the puck dropped. Neil had an active shift in the first period after Maroon put Anaheim up 1-0, beginning with a solid open-ice hit that knocked down Emerson Etem at 8:30. He followed that moments later with checks on former teammate Jakob Silfverberg and defenseman Sami Vatanen.
Buffalo @ Florida 3-1 - Jhonas Enroth stopped 44 shots and Steve Ott broke a 1-1 tie with 7:18 left in the third period to help the Sabres beat the Florida Panthers 3-1 at BB&T Center for only their second victory in 12 games. Rookie Rasmus Ristolainen, the eighth pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, scored his first NHL goal for the Sabres (2-9-1). Cody Hodgson added an empty-netter with 46.6 seconds left. Jesse Winchester scored for the Panthers (3-7-1) off an assist from forward Sean Bergenheim, playing in his first NHL game since the 2012 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. Because of the suspensions of forwards John Scott and Patrick Kaleta, the Sabres played with seven defensemen and 11 forwards, but defenseman Mike Weber left the game in the second period because of a shoulder injury. Ott scored when he tipped Christian Ehrhoff's shot from the point. It was the Sabres captain's first goal of the season. Ristolainen followed fellow 2013 Sabres first-round pick Nikita Zadorov in scoring his first NHL goal when his seemingly harmless wrist shot from the point beat Markstrom to the stick side in the second period. Markstrom was screened by Sabres forward Cody McCormick and Panthers defenseman Erik Gudbranson jostling for position in front of the net. McCormick and Gudbranson ended up fighting after the goal. Winchester opened the scoring at 13:58 of the first period when he batted Bergenheim's cross-ice pass to the front of the net out of midair.
