Snoopy Gets His Paws on the Stanley Cup

Dean Lombardi
Los Angeles Kings general manager Dean Lombardi put the Stanley Cup in the doghouse over the weekend. Not just any dog's house, though. Lombardi took the Cup to Santa Rosa, Calif., on Sunday and to the Charles M. Schulz Museum. Schulz is most famous for penning the "Peanuts" comic strip, and Hockey Hall of Fame Keeper of the Cup Phil Pritchard photographed Lombardi with the Cup in Snoopy's dog house. Schulz, as Helene Elliott of the Los Angeles Times noted, was an avid hockey fan.

Santa Rosa is also home to Redwood Empire Ice Arena, or Snoopy's Home Ice, which Schulz owned when it opened in 1969. Lombardi took the Cup over to the arena, which also hosts Snoopy's Senior World Hockey Tournament, a 64-team senior event started by Schulz in 1975. Snoopy was on hand to take his photo with the Cup.
