Pelicans – Pelicans came from a goal down to win a fiery encounter in Tampere as they beat Ilves 4-1. Teemu Rautiainen scoring for the home side at 4:22. However, Pelicans drew level less than a minute later when Justin Hodgman netted. Pelicans’ defenseman Ben Blood, then went to the penalty box twice soon after before Hodgman received a 2+10 for unsportsmanlike conduct. Despite that though, Pelicans took the lead at 21:43 through Miro Hovinen. The game could have been taken off Pelicans soon after though as Blood ran into penalty trouble. At 27:58 he was assessed a 5 plus 10 plus game misconduct penalty for a check to the head, plus 2+2 for roughing. Amazingly the visitors killed that penalty and in fact extended their lead with Vili Sopanen netting twice.
On Saturday, Pelicans made the trip to Vaasa where they lost 4-2 to Sport. Tuomas Vanttinen and Tomas Kabalik scored early on for the home side before Pelicans pulled on back through Juha Leimu. Otto Karvinen then netted a third for Sport 43 seconds later to restore his side’s two goal lead, but Juhani Tyrvainen responded again for Pelicans before the end of the second period. As the Pelicans pushed top tie up the game late on, Tommi Tikka scored an empty netter to make the game safe.
Lukko - Aleksi Saarela and Janne Niskala scored in the opening period to set Lukko on their way to another important victory over their direct rivals SaiPa. The side from Lappeenranta had replaced Lukko at the foot of the table last week but they pulled a goal back through Brock Trotter at 26:59. However, their comeback was halted 20 seconds later when Peter Tiivola restored Lukko’s two goal lead. Toni Koivisto made the game safe with the visitor’s fourth goal at 49:05.
They continued their surge up the table after beating rivals KooKoo 5-2. Mikko Jokela had given the team from Kouvola the lead at 38:27, but a trio of goals at the start of the third period turned the game on its head. Keaton Ellerby, Toni Koivisto and Ilmari Pitkanen all scored before Kai Kantola brough KooKoo back into the game with just other sox minutes left to play. However, Koivisto and Pitkanen both netted their second goals of the game to make the score complete.
The team from Rauma now find themselves up to Twelth and are just a point behind eleventh placed Jukurit.
* SaiPa - Slumped to the bottom of the table last week and the Lappeenranta-based side remain there after they were unable to get anything from their game in Jyvaskyla. JYP’s goals came courtesy of Arttu Likola, Robert Rooba and a double from Henri Kanninen.
* JYP - Sami Niku and Juha-Pekka Hytonen scored inside the last five minutes to give the points to the side from Jyvaskyla against Karpat.
* Tappara – The league leaders came away from the Northern City of Oulu with a disappointing 2-0 loss. Antti Kalapudas scored both the goals for Karpat.
* KalPa – KalPa lost further ground on the leaders after going down 2-0 at home to HPK. The visiting side from Hameenlinna claimed the win with goals from Severi Sillanpaa and Joonas Lehtivuori.
TPS - Eric Perrin and Patrik Virta scored either side of a Ryan O’Connor marker to give TPS the win over KooKoo in Kouvola.
Assat v TPS 4-1 – Against Assat, TPS went down to a crushing 4-1 result. Mikael Saha, Ville Korhonen, Juho Tommila and Jussi Makkonen getting the goals for the Pori-based side. While, Patrik Virta scored the sole marker for the visitors.
HIFK - Arttu Luttinen scored the only goal of the game for HIFK, with just over five minutes to go.
Jukurit - Jukurit came from behind to beat Ilves in Tampere. Teemu Rautiainen twice gave the home side the lead but the team from Mikkeli responded with markers from Zach Budish, Teemu Tallberg, Turo Asplund and a double from Nestori Lahde.
