8 Lee Baxter

My first memories of Lee Baxter will be that 2000-01 season as he led the second line alongside Bryan Dunn and Bobby Bradley. In many ways it was my favorite line, and he my favorite player that season, even out shining the star studded top line of Leach, Culley and Carter. They scored so many goals between them during the second half of the season that saw them win the League Playoffs and the Anglo-Scottish Cup. Due to work commitments Lee was stupidly dropped by then coach Peter Winn, so signed for the Sunderland Chiefs knowing there would be a challenge game between the 2 sides that weekend. He was by far the best player for the Chiefs that evening if not the best on the Ice. With Peter Winn seeing the error of his ways he quickly re-signed the center before the next game, with Lee making his point and Whitley going the season unbeaten. With the exodus of 2002 Lee found himself as the team leader, playing every second shift and proving a great role model for some of the younger players making their way into the team, like his protege Shaun Kippin (more of him later). However due to increasing work demands Lee sadly had to walk away from Hockey, although having spoke to him during a legends game he said he misses the game a lot and would love to return to the team if at all possible.
