Weekly Finnish Hockey round-up by Aatami Mäkinen.
Jukurit v Pelicans 2-3 – The Lahti-based side ended their regular season campaign with a win in Mikkeli. Turo Asplund had given Jukurit the lead at 26:20, but a double strike from Juhani Tyrvainen and a solo marker from Juha Leimu suddenly turned the game around to the Pelicans favour. Zach Budish scored with just over two minutes to go to reduce the arrears but his side could not find a third goal to ties the game.
Lukko v KalPa 4-5 – There was a nine goal thriller in Rauma as, KalPa skated off with 5-4 win after going behind by two goals on three separate occasions. Sami Lahteenmaki and Atte Makinen netted early on before Alexander Ruuttu halved the deficit seven minutes into the second period. Ville Vahalahti then restored the home sides two goal advangate at the halfway point of the game but Janne Keranen had cut the elad again 92 seconds before the second intermission. Eetu Koivistoinen gave Lukko a two goal lead for the third time in the game but Keranen grabbed his second of the game just over a minute later and then Joonas Lyytinen levelled the scores with just over five minutes to go and send the contest into overtime. Miikka Pitkanen hit the winner for the team from Kuopio 2:13 into the extra session.
Tappara v SaiPa 4-1 – Regular season champions Tappara rounded off their schedule with a routine win over SaiPa. Otso Rantakari scored twice either side of a Jesse Hallikas marker for the visitors. Late goals from Veli-Matti Savinainen and Rasmus Smedberg completed the scoring.
HIFK v JYP 2-3 – Both sides shared four goals during regulation time and were only separated by a shootout that went to ten rounds! Kai Kantola have the Capitol city team the lead at 29:36 but JYP hit back with two goals in 29 seconds. Ossi Louhivaara and Jani Tuppurainen both finding the net. Tommi Tuomisto levelled for HIFK with just over ten minutes remaining and so the sides headed first into overtime and then the shootout. Joonas Nattinen scored the decisive goal to give the team from Jyvaskyla the win.
KooKoo v HPK 6-4 – The two sides who have similar orange/black jerseys shared ten goals between them in Kouvola, with the home side coming out on top. Janne Lahti scored for HPK to open the scoring at 12:20, but three unanswered goals from the home side saw them open up a two goal lead at the half-way point of the game. Josh Green and a double strike from Juha-Pekka Haataja, getting the goals. However HPK made sure the sides went into the second intermission on level terms. Otto Paajanen and Teemu Turunen scoring less than three minutes apart. However, KooKoo were intent on ending the regular season on a high, and were soon back ahead when first Olli Korhonen and then Mikko Virtanen both found the net. Eero Somervuori cut KooKoo’s lead to a single goal with just over seven minutes to go but, as HPK pushed for the equaliser they left an empty net and Toni Hyvarinen was only too happy to ice the game for his side.
TPS v Assat 4-2 – Erik Thorell and Patrik Virta scored to give the Turku-based side a two goal lead early on, by their visitors from nearby Pori were soon back on level terms after Niko Ojamaki and Juho Tommila both scored. However, a few minutes later Tomi Kallio scored his first of two goals of the evening to win the game for TPS.
Sport v Ilves 2-0 – Tomi Korkko and Filip Riska scored the goals for Sport as they beat Ilves in Vaasa.
