Pelicans - Goals from Miska Siikonen and Roni Rukajarvi proved to be enough for Pelicans to see off high-flying TPS. The Turku-based side did pull a goal back towards the end of the second period through Eric Perrin, but it wasn’t enough.
Jani Lajunen gave Tappara the lead at 18:37, but goals from Morten Poulsen and Joonas Alanne looked to have turned the game in Pelicans favour. As so often has happened this season, the Tampere-based side produced another dramatic comeback. Henrik Haapala levelled at 49:32 and then Valtteri Kemilainen scored the winner 22 seconds into overtime.
Pelicans lost a seven goal thriller to the Oulu-based side Karpat on Saturday. That was despite taking the lead on two sepearte occasions during the encounter. John Albert had given the visitors the lead at 15:11 but Juha Leimu had made sure both sides went into the break on level terms. Morten Poulsen then gave the Lahti-based side their first lead of the game at 26:44 only for Shaun Heshka to tie the game. Marko Poyhonen gave the Pelicans the lead early into the final session, but Brock Trotter netted at 54:12 to send the game into overtime. With ten seconds left on the clock during the extra session, and both teams seemingly set for a shoot-out, Albert who had opened the scoring at the start of the game, ended the contest when he netted the winner.
Lukko - Lennart Petrell gave the capital city club the lead at 5:41, but four unanswered goals by Jesse Virtanen, Sami Lahteenmaki and a double from Aleksi Saarela turned the game in Lukko’s favour. Joe Finley pulled one back for HIFK but it wasn’t enough.
Jukurit arrived in Rauma two days later and quickly had the game under their control. First period goals from Antti Jaatinen, Henrik Koivisto and Jesper Piitulainen gave the visitors an unassailable lead. Janne Niskala pulled on back for Lukko, 39 seconds into the second period but Nestori Lahde responded for Jukurit. Aleksi Saarela pulled another one back for Lukko with just over three minutes left in the period to make it a two-goal game once again. Jesse Virtanen netted 1:16 into the final period to give the home side every chance of getting something from the game, but Jukurit did just enough to hold on.
Jerry D’Amigo gave the Tampere-based side the lead midway through the opening period, and it was an advantage they would hold for the next period and a half. Ville Vahalahti levelled 16 seconds into the final session but goals from Tapio Laakso and Juho Liuksiala, three minutes apart secured the win for Ilves. Aleksi Saarela did reduce the deficit with just a single second left on the clock, meaning it was too late to salvage the game.
SaiPa – Visiting KooKoo, raced into a seven goal lead against SaiPa in Lappeenranta. Ossi-Petteri Gronholm, Mikko Virtanen, Toni Hyvarinen [twice], Oscar Eklund,, Jarkko Immonen and Sami Tamminen getting the Kouvola-based side’s goals. Henry Karjalainen got the solo marker for SaiPa with under ten minutes remaining.
SaiPa’s woes continued against TPS on Saturday, but they at least made the team from Turku work for their win. Sebastian Sjoholm gave the home side the lead, and despite both Jasper Lindsten and Elmeri Eronen scoring for TPS to give them the lead, Lauri Piironen levelled for SaiPa. Their hard work looked to be paying off until the final 3 minutes or so, when Erik Thorell netted twice in under a minute to win the game for TPS.
JYP - JYP recovered from being a goal down after just 69 seconds to beat Jukurit in Mikkeli. Teemu Tallberg gave the hosts the lead but goals from Juha Uotila, Robert Rooba and Ossi Louhivaara turned the game around.
They then recovered from going two goals behind to KooKoo on Saturday to win a thrilling game. Ossi Louhivaara had given them the early lead, but goals from Robin Jacobsson, Jan-Mikael Juutilainen and Mikko Virtanen gave them a 3-1 lead by the 36th minute. Those last two goals came just 19 seconds apart as the team from Kouvola looked well in control. However, a final period fightback saw the home side win after Anssi Lofman and Antti Suomela scored 90 seconds apart to tie the game. Then Michel Miklik and Juha-Pekka Hytonen scored the goals which gave them the lead and the win.
Tappara – Had to battle against HPK in Hameenlinna on Saturday, for their latest victory. Martin Raymark gave them a first period lead only for Joonas Lehtivuori to level three minutes later. Teemu Nurmi and Otso Rantakari restored the league leaders advanatage but Shane O’Brien did pull one back for HPK with 14 seconds left in the middle period. They couldn’t force another goal to tie the game though so Tappara secured yet another win.
Elsewhere there were wins for Karpat, Ilves and KalPa on Tuesday, whilst the latter came unstuck the following night in Pori when they lost to Assat. TPS beat Karpat 3-2 in Oulu on Thursday.
HIFK smashed six goals past Assat on Saturday with Roope Hintz bagging a hat trick and Mikael Johansson grabbing a brace. Lennart Petrell scored the other goal. KalPa secured a 4-2 win over Sport in the other game.
