Buffalo @ Boston 1-4 - Reilly Smith scored twice and David Krejci had a goal and an assist to lead the Bruins to a 4-1 victory. Boston improved to 12-0-2 in its past 14 games at TD Garden and avenged a 4-2 loss in Buffalo 48 hours earlier. The Bruins outshot the Sabres 15-5 in the third period Thursday, but it was Buffalo that broke a 2-2 tie with two goals for the victory. After the Sabres tied the score late in the first period, the Bruins wasted little time regaining the lead in the second. Jarome Iginla skated end-to-end after a rebound of a Buffalo shot and found Krejci as the late man on a 3-on-2. Krejci roofed a wrist shot from just below the right hash mark at 1:47 to put Boston ahead to stay. Milan Lucic's drive to the net helped get Krejci open for the shot. Buffalo had several chances to pull even the rest of the period, but came up short. The Bruins killed off 1:49 of a 5-on-3 plus an entire second minor penalty after Gregory Campbell took a double minor for high-sticking with Patrice Bergeron already in the box for cross-checking. The Bruins had to use Krejci at center for much of the kill, and even had defenseman Torey Krug playing up top for a bit with two of Boston's best penalty-killers in the box and center Chris Kelly still out of the lineup with a broken leg. Krejci assisted on Lucic's goal at 5:18 of the third that gave the Bruins a 3-1 lead. Zdeno Chara made a slap pass to Krejci in the left circle, and Krejci fed Lucic in the slot for a high wrist shot that beat Enroth. Smith hit the empty net with 21.4 seconds remaining. Unlike Thursday night, the Bruins scored first in the rematch of the two Atlantic Division foes. With Linus Omark off for hooking, the Bruins took advantage of a power play to take a 1-0 lead when Smith scored on a one-timer from the bottom of the left circle at 9:39 after a pass across the slot by Carl Soderberg. The Sabres got even when Zemgus Girgensons scored at 18:54. After Rask stopped Matt Moulson's backhander from in front, Girgensons followed up with a backhand shot of his own that went off Rask's back and into the net.
Detroit Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk, left, opened and closed out a 4-3 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs in style, scoring the opening goal on James Reimer, right, and finishing off the shootout on replacement Jonathan Bernier.
Detroit @ Toronto 5-4 SO - Daniel Alfredsson and Pavel Datsyuk scored in the shootout, and the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-4 at Air Canada Centre on Saturday night in a preview of the 2014 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic. Alfredsson and Datsyuk beat Maple Leafs goalie Jonathan Bernier in the tiebreaker, and the Maple Leafs went 0-for-2 against Jonas Gustavsson. It was Detroit's first win in seven shootouts this season and the Red Wings' first in 12 tiebreakers dating back to last season. Alfredsson, the former captain of the rival Ottawa Senators who signed with Detroit as a free agent in July, was booed by Maple Leafs fans throughout the game. Clarkson gave the Maple Leafs a 4-3 lead at 8:32 of the third period when he put a loose puck in the crease past Gustavsson. The scramble at the front of the net happened when Jay McClement's shot bounced off the goalie and stayed in front of the net. Clarkson pushed the puck underneath Gustavsson for his third goal of the season and 100th in his career. Detroit's Tomas Tatar tied the game 4-4 with 6:16 remaining when he put a rebound of a Niklas Kronwall shot past Bernier. Tatar beat defenseman John-Michael Liles to the loose puck in front to score his seventh goal of the season. The Maple Leafs opened the scoring 7:15 into the game. Defenseman Cody Franson intercepted the puck at the point and sent a wrist shot past Gustavsson for his second goal of the season. But the rest of the period belonged to the Red Wings. Datsyuk made it 1-1 at 8:57. His 14th goal of the season came when he took a pass from behind the net by rookie forward Riley Sheahan and backhanded the puck between goalie James Reimer's legs. Defenseman Danny DeKeyser, who missed the past 15 games with a separated shoulder, had the second assist. Joakim Andersson gave Detroit a 2-1 lead at 13:18. His sixth goal of the season came on a wraparound; he used his long reach to put the puck past Reimer on the far side. Tomas Jurco's second of the season at 18:08 gave the Red Wings a 3-1 lead. Jurco was alone in front when Sheahan found him with a pass, and Jurco slipped a spinning backhander between Reimer's pads. Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf cut the Red Wings' lead to 3-2 at 11:45 of the second period when his one-timer above the faceoff circle beat Gustavsson. Joffrey Lupul found Phaneuf open for his third goal of the season. Phaneuf nearly had a second goal at 15:13 when he had a wide-open net to shoot at, but Gustavsson scrambled back and made a highlight-reel save with the paddle of his stick. Lupul's 11th goal of the season tied the game 3-3 at 18:24. He took a pass from Phil Kessel along the goal line and put his power-play shot over Gustavsson's shoulder on the short side.

Carolina @ Tampa Bay 2-3 OT - Tlusty opened the scoring 4:35 into the game when his long wrister through traffic eluded Bishop, who had shut out Carolina in his previous two games against the Hurricanes. Hedman got the Lightning even at 16:12 when he snuck in from the point, took a pass from Filppula and slipped a shot behind Peters for his seventh goal of the season. Alex Killorn also assisted, earning his fourth point in as many games. Carolina took a 2-1 lead at 10:11 of the second period when Jiri Tlusty scored his second goal of the game. The Hurricanes were killing a penalty when Tlusty collected a pass from Eric Staal and broke in alone before beating Bishop with a 20-foot wrister. Both goals by Tlusty came on Carolina's first shot of the period. Martin St. Louis tipped Victor Hedman's shot past Peters at 7:56 of the third period during Tampa Bay's fifth power play of the game for his 15th goal of the season. The Tampa Bay Lightning just kept shooting until they won. Radko Gudas scoring 2:16 into overtime on the Lightning's 50th shot of the game, giving Tampa Bay a 3-2 win against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. Gudas broke into the Carolina end on a 2-on-1 with Nate Thompson. He glided in until he reached the faceoff circle to the right of Carolina netminder Justin Peters, then to the short side and beat Peters for his second goal of the season. Tampa Bay reclaimed one player from the ranks of the injured when Tom Pyatt returned after missing 32 games with a broken collarbone, but they saw defenseman Eric Brewer leave in the second period after a collision along the boards and not return.

Anaheim @ NY Islanders 5-3 - The Ducks stretched their winning streak to eight games by scoring four times in the third period for a 5-3 victory at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Saturday night. Ryan Getzlaf had a hat trick and assisted on the go-ahead goal by Kyle Palmieri that broke a 3-3 tie with 6:16 remaining. Getzlaf completed his hat trick by hitting the empty net with 22 seconds remaining, and Boudreau said his captain was the difference-maker as the Ducks rallied from a 3-1 deficit after two periods. Mathieu Perreault got the tying goal midway through the third period before Palmieri jumped on a loose puck after a faceoff, swept across the front of the crease and scored his sixth goal of the season, beating Nabokov with a backhander. Thomas Vanek scored twice and Frans Nielsen once for the Islanders, who have lost eight of 10 games this month. The Islanders, grabbed the lead 11:27 into the opening period. Tavares won an offensive-zone draw back to defenseman Andrew MacDonald, who slipped a pass to Kyle Okposo in the high slot. Andersen stopped Okposo's blast through traffic, but couldn't control the rebound, and Vanek snapped it home from just outside the crease. After New York outshot Anaheim 9-8 in the first period, the Ducks dominated most of the second and outshot the Islanders 10-5 but came out down two goals after a late-period letdown. Anaheim spent the first 15 minutes of the period firing away at Nabokov and finally tied the game with 4:50 left in the period. Getzlaf missed the net from the slot, but got his own rebound off the end boards and backhanded a shot that hit Nabokov and slid into the net. The Ducks looked to be poised to take the lead after Tavares was called for holding 43 seconds later. But the Islanders killed the penalty easily and scored two seconds after Tavares stepped out of the box when Vanek raced down the right side and blew a slap shot past Andersen from the faceoff dot. It was his 13th of the season and third in two games. Nielsen gave the Islanders a 3-1 lead 57 seconds later. Josh Bailey's pass sprung Nielsen down the right side, and his backhander from below the dot got past Andersen as Michael Grabner crashed the crease, bringing a defenseman with him. Getzlaf gave got the Ducks within a goal 1:10 into the third period by following his own shot. He fired from the left point into traffic in front of Nabokov, went to the slot, picked up a loose puck and slammed it into the net for his 18th of the season. Perreault tied the game at 10:28. The Ducks won a faceoff after an icing, and he went to the net to fire Daniel Winnik's pass from the right boards past Nabokov for his seventh of the season.

New Jersey @ Washington 5-4 OT - Defenseman Andy Greene deflected the rebound of Jaromir Jagr's wrist shot past Braden Holtby 43 seconds into overtime to give the victory to the Devils, who trailed 3-1 after two periods and 4-2 with less than 12 minutes remaining in regulation. Marek Zidlicky scored twice, and Jagr and Dainius Zubrus each had a goal for New Jersey. Jagr tied Mark Messier for seventh place on the NHL's all-time goal list with the 694th of his career. Jagr opened the third-period scoring at 5:28 with his 13th of the season, a sharp-angled power-play goal to cut the Devils' deficit to 3-2, but Ovechkin responded at 8:07 with a wrist shot from the slot to secure his ninth straight season with at least 30 goals. He is the only player to score 30 in every season since 2005-06, when he entered the NHL. Washington's second two-goal lead had evaporated 3:40 later Zidlicky made it 4-3 when he snuck into the slot undetected for his second goal of the game before Zubrus tied it with 8:13 remaining. Travis Zajac intercepted Holtby's clearing attempt and quickly fired it on net, where Zubrus was able to deflect it past the goalie. Washington had the only shot on goal through the first 7:24 before peppering Martin Brodeur with six unanswered attempts near the midway point. The Devils did not register their first shot on goal until 8:34 remained in the period, but they made it count on the power play to take a 1-0 lead. New Jersey worked the umbrella, beginning with Jagr along the right half-wall. He passed to Greene at center point, and Greene fed Zidlicky at the left circle for a one-timer that beat Holtby high to the short side. It was Zidlicky's first goal since Nov. 20. The pace picked up considerably in the second period, a style of game that favored the Capitals, and Chimera's seventh goal of the season at 10:07 tied the game. After having his wraparound attempt foiled by Brodeur, Chimera was able to locate the rebound and beat the goaltender before he could react. Grabovski gave Washington its first lead of the game less than five minutes later, finishing off an impressive passing display when Eric Fehr found him on the doorstep for his 10th goal of the season. Ward pushed the lead to 3-1 within the period's final minute, collecting Green's rebound in transition.

Philadelphia @ Columbus 3-6 - Marian Gaborik sustained a second significant injury this season when he fractured his collarbone in the first period. The Blue Jackets announced he will be out indefinitely. Gaborik was playing for the first time since missing 17 games with a knee injury. He got crunched between Flyers players Braydon Coburn and Zac Rinaldo while shooting, but still managed to pick up an assist when Nick Foligno picked up the rebound and fed Johansen for the game’s first goal at 10:43. Columbus also lost forward Matt Calvert to an upper-body injury. He will be evaluated Sunday. Columbus defenseman James Wisniewski (upper body) missed six games, but his shot from the point led to a power play goal at 14:29 of the second when Umberger tipped the shot past Flyers goalie Ray Emery for the 2-0 lead. Columbus nearly added a third when Brandon Dubinsky hit the crossbar and left post on the same shot before the Flyers rallied again. Wayne Simmonds and Sean Couturier scored 20 seconds apart to tie it, late in the second period. Columbus got goals 2:39 apart from Savard and Jenner early in the third to restore the two-goal lead. Savard scored from the right point through heavy traffic at 3:36 and Jenner redirected a shot from the left point by Nikitin at 5:39. Columbus then padded the lead at 12:22 when Johansen, on an odd-man rush, pulled the puck back in the right circle to clear Coburn then wristed the shot over Emery's right shoulder. Philadelphia got a goal by Simmonds, his second of the game, while playing with an extra attacker at 18:19 to make it 5-3, but Umberger scored 24 seconds later.
Nashville Predators vs. Montreal Canadiens
Montreal @ Nashville 4-3 OT - The Canadiens found a way to score in the first period again, but needed an overtime goal by David Desharnais to defeat the Nashville Predators 4-3 at Bridgestone Arena on Saturday night. Desharnais stole the puck from Predators defenseman Mattias Ekholm along the left-wing boards, skated toward the net and his slap shot from the faceoff circle beat Carter Hutton at 1:43. Montreal took a 3-0 lead in a span of 3:07 after going eight games without a first-period goal, dating to Dec. 4. Passing plays, one bad one by Nashville and two good ones by Montreal, created the scoring spurt. Ekholm failed to connect with teammate Viktor Stalberg in the defensive zone, and the puck came off the boards to Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban. He glided into the center of the ice and his shot from between the circles beat Marek Mazanec 11:30 into the game for a 1-0 lead. It became 2-0 less than two minutes later when Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher sent a right-to-left, cross-ice pass through the neutral zone that found Max Pacioretty in stride. Pacioretty headed for the net and lifted a backhand past Mazanec at 13:20. It took 1:17 for it to become 3-0. Canadiens forward Alex Galchenyuk forced the puck off the boards in the neutral zone, where it was gathered by Tomas Plekanec. He fed Brian Gionta entering the offensive zone then tipped in the return give-and-go pass at 14:37. Nashville then replaced Mazanec, who faced five shots, with Hutton. On Friday, the team announced goalie Pekka Rinne's return has been delayed, with his attempt to take on more strenuous activity after surgery to treat a hip infection pushed back two more weeks. The Predators made it 3-1 at 11:51 of the second period. Stalberg won a race to the puck behind the Canadiens net and Matt Cullen was able to send a pass from there to Gabriel Bourque, whose wrist shot beat Carey Price high. Nashville made it 3-2 with 1:51 to go in the second when Nick Spaling tipped in Shea Weber's shot-pass on a power play. Weber scored the tying goal on a power play with 6:20 remaining in regulation. Mike Fisher's pass from behind the Canadiens goal found Weber in the left circle, and he pushed a shot past Price. Predators defenseman Seth Jones left the game after being hit near the face by a deflected shot late in the first period. Jones, who wears a visor, was struck by the puck after a shot by Andrei Markov ricocheted on the way to the net. Jones went down immediately and needed assistance leaving the ice with 6.8 seconds to go in the period.

St Louis @ Edmonton 6-0 - Chris Stewart had his third career hat trick to lead the Blues to a 6-0 victory against the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place on Saturday night. Stewart, who has eight goals in his past six games, also collected an assist in the win. Stewart scored the opening goal in the first period, assisted on Brenden Morrow's goal in the second and added two goals in the third. Jaden Schwartz and Patrik Berglund also scored in the final period for the Blues, and Brian Elliott made 23 saves for his second shutout of the season and the 23rd of his career. The news wasn't all good for the Blues. Forward Alexander Steen, their leading scorer, did not return after the second period. Coach Ken Hitchcock did not have an update on Steen’s status after the game. The Blues got off to a slow start and were outshot 14-5 in the first period. Yet Stewart scored the lone goal at 11:57, shortly after a Blues penalty to David Backes had expired. The play began in the Blues zone when Oilers defenseman Andrew Ference took a bad-angled shot that rimmed around the boards toward Backes as he was coming out of the penalty box. The Blues captain, making his return to the lineup after missing two games with a concussion, was unable to catch up to the puck but forced Oilers goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov to come out of his crease to play it. Bryzgalov played the puck off the glass to Schwartz, who found Stewart unattended in front as the Oilers were making a change. The Blues took control of the game in the second period, outshooting the Oilers 14-4. They went on to outshoot the Oilers 28-9 through the final two periods. Morrow made it 2-0 at 5:50 of the second period, finishing off a three-way passing play inside the Oilers zone. Derek Roy found Stewart with a cross-ice feed, and Stewart found Morrow in front. The Blues blew the game open in the third period.

Stewart scored at 1:46, finishing off a Berglund centering feed and beating Bryzgalov from in tight. Schwartz made it 4-0 at 2:38 beating Bryzgalov with a long wrist shot that fooled the Oilers goaltender. Stewart completed his hat trick at 7:27 during a 4-on-3 power play, tapping in a cross-crease feed from Roy. Berglund completed the scoring at 12:42 on a shot Bryzgalov misplayed and had bounce up over him and into the net.
