Artemi Panarin scored twice to lead the Chicago Blackhawks to a 5-2 win against the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena. Brent Seabrook and Patrick Kane each had a goal and two assists and Andrew Ladd scored for Chicago. Corey Crawford made 31 saves. Brad Richards and Gustav Nyquist scored for Detroit. Petr Mrazek made 28 saves. Seabrook gave Chicago a 1-0 lead 2:23 into the game. He beat Mrazek with a shot from the top of the right circle. It was Seabrook's career-high 13th goal. Mrazek said he should have stopped the shot.
The Blackhawks scored two power-play goals in a span of 1:26 late in the second period to make it 3-0. Panarin put a cross-crease pass from Kane into the open side of the net, from the bottom of the left circle, with 5:26 left in the second for a 5-on-3 power-play goal to make it 2-0.
Detroit's penalty kill had the opportunity to shift the momentum, but instead the Blackhawks successfully executed a tic-tac-toe play. Kane scored his 37th goal of the season, a new career-high, when be put a wrist shot past Mrazek from inside of the left circle off the rush with four minutes left in the second to make it 3-0. Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg was called for tripping with 6:38 left in the period and defenseman Niklas Kronwall went off for hooking 47 seconds later to give Chicago the two-man advantage.
Richards spoiled Crawford's shutout bid with a power-play goal with 9:49 left in the third period. Richards scored on a slap shot from the point for his eighth goal of the season. Ladd made it 4-1 with 5:57 left. It was Ladd’s 18th goal of the season. Panarin scored his second of the game, his 24th of the season, 35 seconds later. Nyquist scored his 16th goal of the season with 2:09 remaining.
Christian Ehrhoff made his debut with the Blackhawks after being acquired in a trade from the Los Angeles Kings for defenseman Rod Scuderi.
