NHL - Winnipeg Jets @ Vancouver Canucks 5-2 - Monday, Mar 14, 2016

The line of Alexander Burmistrov, Marko Dano and Mathieu Perreault combined for seven points as the Jets beat the Vancouver Canucks 5-2 at Rogers Arena.
Dano led the way with three points (2G, 1A), giving him five in his last four games after being held without one in his first few with his new team. The line was a force all night, hemming the Canucks in their own end for much of the night, finishing with a Corsi-for rating of +12 in 15 minutes of ice time.
Michael Hutchinson made 26 saves for the win, his first in four starts, in one of the quietest nights he’s had all year. Dano got the Jets on the board early with his third of the season and second in three games off a beautiful feed from Tyler Myers. Showing great speed down the right-wing boards, the defenceman threaded a pass to the front of the net, where Dano met up with it in full flight, punching it high over the shoulder of Jacob Markstrom at 4:28.
Myers put the Jets up by a pair at 16:45 as he fired a shot off a skate in front, giving him nine on the year, just two shy of his career high 11 set during his rookie year. Myers finished with 22 minutes and 21 seconds of ice time, recording a team-high four shots and three blocks.
For the second straight game, Adam Lowry had a chance to open up the scoring on a shorthanded breakaway in the first five minutes. Again, he was unsuccessful, as the goalie made a cool stick save on his backhand five-hole attempt.
The Jets were all over the Canucks in the back half of the period, finishing with eight straight shots to take a 10-7 lead after one. Michael Hutchinson was tested early in the second when a wide-open Sven Baertschi got a free look at the open side, but he sprung to his feet, scrambled across and made a fabulous blocker save to keep it a 2-0 game.
Markstrom was equally good at the other end, keeping the game from getting ugly as the Jets poured it on in the offensive zone. At one point, he made an incredible barehanded grab along the goal line after losing his blocker amid chaos in the blue paint, resulting in a well deserved standing ovation. But that didn’t stop the Jets.
On a 3-on-1 late in the middle frame, Burmistrov took the drop pass from Perreault and rifled a wicked shot bar down to put the Jets up by a trey.
Mark Scheifele joined the fun early in the third as he converted a pass from Blake Wheeler on a 1-on-1-turned-2-on-0 deep in enemy territory. Scheifele’s point streak is now at eight straight games, recording 12 points (8G, 4A) in that span.
Dano rounded out the scoring as he got a piece of a Burmistrov shot at 6:45, securing the second three-point night of his NHL career. Jared McCann broke the shutout with 11:03 to play before Jake Virtanen added another in garbage time.
Dustin Byfuglien missed his first game of the season with the flu. Byfuglien was officially considered a game-time decision, but he did not take part in the pre-game warmup. … Julian Melchiori was recalled from the Manitoba Moose on an emergency basis earlier in the day.

Jets Quotes

Paul Maurice: “It looks like that line is moving the puck to each other a little bit. (Dano’s) got some confidence and he has good enough hands to get it off his stick in different areas. They’re playing pretty well. It’s starting to come together.”
“Tyler’s gap was just fantastic in that game early. We needed that. He played a nice, simple, clean game and made it easy on a young defenceman (Julian Melchiori).”
Marko Dano: “My linemates were good tonight. I got lucky with the second goal, but we played a great game. We’re getting more comfortable (as a line), we’re getting some chemistry going, and we’ve been able profit off that. Tonight we ended up scoring some goals and hopefully it’s going to work next game, too.”
Tyler Myers: “We were getting some bounces, but that was the way we wanted to play. We were playing the right way. The guys were on the puck tonight and when we have a forecheck like that, we’re going to spend some time in the offensive zone and we got some chances because of it.”
Mark Scheifele: “Each game I try to get my chances, and as of late they’ve been going in for me, so hopefully I can keep that going.”
