Stars @ Toronto Maple Leafs 1-3 - Tuesday, February 07, 2017

Curtis McElhinney made 39 saves for the Toronto Maple Leafs in a 3-1 win against the Stars at Air Canada Centre. McElhinney is 2-2-0 since being claimed on waivers from the Columbus Blue Jackets. Toronto (25-17-10) was playing its first home game since a 4-0 win against the Calgary Flames on Jan. 23. The Maple Leafs were 2-3-1 in six road games and allowed 22 goals in the last four, including a 6-3 loss to Dallas on Jan. 31. After Bozak won an offensive-zone faceoff, Mitchell Marner passed to defenseman Jake Gardiner, whose slap shot from the blue line went past goalie Antti Niemi's glove to put Toronto up 1-0 at 9:09 of the first period. Auston Matthews won an offensive-zone faceoff directly back to Gardiner at the blue line. His wrist shot was deflected by Matthews in the slot to put Toronto up 2-0 at 17:32 of the second period. Matthews leads NHL rookies with 25 goals. Tyler Seguin pulled the Stars within 2-1 with a power-play goal at 4:00 of the third period. It was his 20th goal of the season.
Dallas (21-23-10) took three minor penalties in a span of 2:04 after Seguin scored. On a 5-on-3 power play, Nikita Zaitsev scored his second goal of the season at 7:26 of the third period to put the Maple Leafs up 3-1. Zaitsev took a pass from Nazem Kadri at the blue line and moved into the high slot before taking a wrist shot past Niemi with Leo Komarov providing a screen.

Stars @ Ottawa Senators 2-3 - Thursday, February 09, 2017

Mark Stone scored the go-ahead goal at 6:03 of the third period to lift the Ottawa Senators to a 3-2 win against the Stars at Canadian Tire Centre. Mike Condon made 31 saves for the Senators (28-18-6), who ended a two-game skid. Defenseman Dion Phaneuf scored a shorthanded goal at 14:41 of the first period to give Ottawa a 1-0 lead and end its goal drought at 135:05. The Senators took a 2-0 lead with 2:05 left in the first when Stars forward Jiri Hudler's attempted drop pass on a delayed penalty went between defensemen Dan Hamhuis and John Klingberg and into the Dallas net. Chris Kelly, who was the last Ottawa player to touch the puck, was credited with his fifth goal. He was on the bench when Hudler's pass went into the net. Antoine Roussel and Jamie Benn scored for the Stars (21-24-10), who have lost four in a row. Kari Lehtonen made 24 saves. Benn tied the game 2-2 at 16:09 of the second period when his shot from the high slot found its way through a screen. Roussel made it 2-1 at 11:28 of the second period when he was the recipient of a nice backdoor pass from Radek Faksa across the goal mouth behind Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson. With a tripping call coming up on Ottawa forward Zack Smith, Hudler scored into his own net from the red line.


Carolina Hurricanes @ Stars 2-5 - Saturday, February 11, 2017

Patrick Eaves scored two goals in his 600th NHL game to help the Dallas Stars to a 5-2 win against the Carolina Hurricanes at American Airlines Center. Eaves, who scored in the first and second periods, set an NHL career high with 21 goals. He scored 20 as a rookie with the Ottawa Senators during the 2005-06 season. The Stars (22-24-10) ended a four-game losing streak. Esa Lindell and Curtis McKenzie also scored in the first period for Dallas. Lindell scored 51 seconds into the game on a 2-on-1 after he stole the puck from Jaccob Slavin. Eaves and McKenzie scored goals 22 seconds apart to give Dallas a 3-0 lead.
Eaves scored at 5:49 after a dump in by Jamie Benn took a hard bounce in the corner and Cody Eakin made a centering pass. McKenzie scored at 6:11 when his pass banked off Hurricanes defenseman Matt Tennyson. Sebastian Aho scored 5:06 into the second period for the Hurricanes (24-22-7) to make it 3-1 after a pass from Elias Lindholm. Eaves scored his second goal at 17:09 of the second period on the power play to give Dallas a 4-1 lead. Justin Faulk scored at 5:13 of the third period to make it 4-2. Adam Cracknell gave Dallas a 5-2 lead when he scored from behind the net at 10:19 of the third period. Kari Lehtonen made 22 saves for Dallas; Cam Ward made 22 saves for the Hurricanes. Lindell's goal came off a surprising rush for the defenseman and provided an early spark for Dallas.



Stars @ Nashville Predators 3-5 - Sunday, February 12, 2017

Defenseman Roman Josi scored the first two of five straight goals by the Nashville Predators in a 5-3 win against the Stars at Bridgestone Arena on. The Stars led 3-0 before Josi started the rally with his first of the night at 15:25 of the second period on a wrist shot from the left faceoff circle. Josi made it 3-2 45 seconds into the third period when he beat goaltender Kari Lehtonen with a one-timer on a 5-on-3 power play. Josi has four goals in the past three games for the Predators (27-21-8), who ended a two-game skid and begin a five-day break Monday. Calle Jarnkrok scored to tie the game 3-3 at 4:40 when he beat Lehtonen with a wrist shot from the right circle. Filip Forsberg gave the Predators a 4-3 lead at 6:02 on a shorthanded breakaway after intercepting a pass by Stars forward Tyler Seguin at the Nashville blue line. Mike Fisher scored into an empty net with 1:38 remaining to make it 5-3. Dallas (22-25-10) has lost five of its past six games. Jamie Benn gave the Stars a 1-0 lead when he scored on the power play at 12:24 of the first period. Radek Faksa slid a backhand pass to Benn, who beat goaltender Pekka Rinne to the short side with a wrist shot from the left circle. Patrick Sharp gave the Stars a 2-0 lead at 15:46 of the first on a 5-on-3 power play when he scored on the rebound of a Seguin shot from the point. Devin Shore put the Stars ahead 3-0 at 12:02 of the second period on the power play. Brett Ritchie made a backhand pass to Shore, who one-timed it past Rinne. James Neal skated right to left at the top of the Dallas zone before passing back to Josi at the top of the right circle for a one-timer that beat Lehtonen over his glove to get Nashville within a goal.
