Sibir v CSKA 3-2 SO
On a day when so many players and coaches took on their former club, it was a local boy who handed his home-town team victory. Konstantin Okulov had a goal and an assist in a 2-2 tie, then delivered the decisive blow in the shoot-out to give Sibir a narrow victory over CSKA. The 21-year-old is enjoying something of a break-out season this time around, seeing his game time up more than 50% on last year and taking his tally to 10 points with today’s display. Okulov opened the scoring in the 25th minute, only for Valery Nichushkin to tie it up three minutes later. Nichushkin, meanwhile, made another notable contribution by getting into a fight with Sibir’s formidable enforcer Evgeny Artyukhin, once of CSKA and notorious for dropping the gloves whenever possible. That fight came in the 35th minute, by which time Sibir was already up 2-1 after Okulov had a helper on Sergei Shumakov’s goal. The night’s first three goals all came on the power play, and CSKA got the first equal-strength marker of the night when Kirill Petrov made it 2-2 in the 42nd minute. There was no further scoring until Okulov’s second attempt in the shoot-out. Finally he found a way past Ilya Sorokin, and after Petrov fired wide of Alexei Krasikov’s net Sibir claimed its first win in four attempts.
Metallurg Nk v SKA 0-6
SKA produced a majestic display to sweep aside Metallurg with Vadim Shipachyov and Ilya Kovalchuk leading the way. The pair both managed a goal and two assists as the visitor dominated the game from the start to finish. Even though the first period was goalless, it was clear that only one team was generating much offense, SKA topped the shot count 14-4, and finished with a 48-14 advantage in a one-sided encounter. And once Shipachyov opened the scoring on the power play in the 24th minute, the floodgates opened. Ilya Kablukov battled down the right and slotted home a backhanded effort to make it 2-0 just 19 seconds later, before Steve Moses, Slava Voynov and Evgeny Dadonov rattled up three goals in five minutes to build a commanding lead.

Dadonov’s goal on 35 minutes was created by Kovalchuk and the KHL’s leading scorer added another to his tally in the 49th minute. Again it came on the power play as he lashed home Shipachyov’s feed to complete the rout. Avangard v Severstal 5-2
Czech forward Vladimir Sobotka bagged two goals to open his account for the season as Avangard snapped its three-game losing streak. Sobotka scored twice in the final period to wrap up a convincing victory over a Severstal team whose improved form of late had it moving into the race for a playoff spot in the West.

But in Omsk the Steelmen had little chance to forge ahead of rivals Jokerit and Vityaz. Two goals late in the first period from Alexander Perezhogin and Denis Parshin put Avangard in control of the game and Maxim Pestushko extended that advantage early in the second. Maxim Trunyov got Severstal on the scoreboard, but there was never much danger of a fightback. Sobotka’s goals came either side of a 52nd-minute strike from Igor Magonin to add some gloss to Avangard’s evening.Avtomobilist v Dynamo 3-2 SO
Avtomobilist won only its second game in the last 12, edging Dynamo Moscow in a shoot-out after a 2-2 tie. Petr Koukal won his post-game duel with Alexander Lazushin while Igor Ustinsky got the better of Lukas Kaspar and Ansel Galimov and Artyom Podshendyalov put his attempt wide of the net. Earlier Yakov Rylov gave Dynamo a third-minute lead, but Avto got in front thanks to goals from Alexei Simakov and Alexei Mikhnov. Podshendyalov tied it up early in the third.
Barys v Vityaz 5-0
Barys enjoyed a second successive shut-out as the Kazakhs sank Vityaz with a 5-0 scoreline. If Tuesday’s game against Dynamo was tight, this was quite the opposite after first-period goals from Roman Savchenko and Corey Trevino put the home side in control. Second-period efforts from Nigel Dawes, Roman Starchenko and Kevin Dallman completed the win; Henrik Karlsson made 27 saves for his shut-out.
Ugra v Lokomotiv 0-1
A seventh-minute power play goal from Pavel Koledov was enough to give Lokomotiv a 1-0 win at Ugra. Alexander Sudnitsyn made 28 saves to preserve that early lead as the Railwaymen made it three wins in a row.
