Forward Tommy Wingels was traded to the Ottawa Senators by the San Jose Sharks yesterday (Tuesday) for minor-league forwards Buddy Robinson and Zack Stortini, and a seventh-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft.
Chosen by the Sharks in the sixth round (No. 177) of the 2008 NHL Draft, Wingels has 51 goals, 122 points and 197 penalty minutes in 337 NHL games, all with the Sharks.
Born in Evanston, IL. Wingels was a firm fans favourite in the Bay Area and will be missed by not only myself but passionate Sharks supporter, and personal friend Ashleigh, who often affectionately referred to him as 'Wingel Pringel'.
Senators general manager Pierre Dorion said Wingels is expected to arrive in Ottawa today (Wednesday) and be available to make his debut Thursday against the Calgary Flames at Canadian Tire Centre. Wingels, 28, has five goals, three assists and 15 penalty minutes in 37 games this season.

Wingels has a rumoured NHL salary-cap charge of $2.45 million in the final season of a three-year contract. He can become an unrestricted free agent July 1.
Wingels started his hockey career with the Miami Redhawks of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference, where he played for three seasons, but after his freshman year he was drafted by the Sharks, 177th overall at the 2008 Entry Draft.
Wingels made his NHL debut in the Sharks home opener on October 8, 2010. His first NHL goal arrived on January 15, 2012, beating Corey Crawford against his hometown team, Chicago Blackhawks.
The Sharks now former #57 paid tribute to his time with the franchise.
'Thank You San Jose Sharks for the past 6 plus years. Loved everything about San Jose especially the great fans and unbelievable team mates I had.' he said.
"Tommy has been a valuable member of our franchise for many years, a phenomenal teammate and a true role model on and off the ice for our organization and the NHL. As a team evolves and younger players push for roster spots, unfortunately tough decisions have to be made. We wish Tommy and his wife, Molly, nothing but success in the future. We also want to welcome Buddy and Zach to our organization. They add size and depth to our reserve list and we look forward to having them in San Jose." Sharks GM Doug Wilson said.
Wilson said Robinson and Stortini will join the San Jose Barracuda of the American Hockey League.
* Robinson (6-foot-6, 232 pounds), 25, has no points, two penalty minutes and four shots on goal in four games with Ottawa this season, and seven goals and five assists in 33 games with Binghamton in the AHL affiliate. He made his NHL debut with Ottawa last season and had a goal and an assist in three games.
* Stortini (6-2, 219), 31, has two goals and one assist in 22 games with Binghamton. He has 257 games of NHL experience, most recently with the Nashville Predators in 2011-12.
