Vityaz wins without Afinogenov

Vityaz wrapped up its Far East tour without Maxim Afinogenov. The veteran forward was rested for the trip to Amur … and in his absence the team eased to victory. Amur failed to capitalize on a bright start: despite struggling in this home stand, it took the lead in the third minute through Pavel Dedunov. But Vityaz responded quickly and two goals from Stanislav Romanov gave the visitor the lead at the first intermission.
After a successful first period, Romanov began the second by picking up a penalty, and four seconds later Amur tied the scores through Vyacheslav Ushenin. But that was the highlight for the home team; the rest of the game was decisively in favor of the visitor. Alexander Nikulin reinstated the lead with a power play marker just after midway, then Alexei Makeyev and Jesse Mankinen stretched the advantage to 5-2 early in the third. Amur had the final word when defenseman Jan Kolar got his second of the season, but it was too late to salvage anything from the game.


Torpedo triumphs after late rally
Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod 3 Kunlun Red Star 1 (0-1, 0-0, 3-0)
Three goals in the last eight minutes of this game saw Torpedo turn defeat into victory, frustrating Kunlun at the start of its new road trip. The Chinese team made the better start and went in front on 12 minutes when Andreas Thuresson got his first goal for the club. The Swede tucked away a chance on the wraparound after Joonas Jarvinen’s shot went wide of Stanislav Galimov’s net.
That lead lasted until the 53^rd minute, when Evgeny Mozer’s powerful shot from a central position was good enough to end Magnus Hellberg’s resistance in the visitor’s net. Hellberg had enjoyed shut-outs in his two previous games, but his goal-free run was halted after 172:57. Inspired, Torpedo went ahead four minutes later when Vladimir Galuzin let rip with a wrist shot off Denis Parshin’s feed from behind the net. Kaspars Daugavins added a third into the empty net in the last minute to complete Torpedo’s triumph.
