Governor’s Cup of Chelyabinsk Oblast
2015 Governor Cup. Avangard wins tournament

The Governor’s Cup of Chelyabinsk Oblast is one of the major pre-season competitions on the KHL calender.
* Avangard Omsk started with a 4-3 win over Metallurg Magnitogorsk. They followed that up, in game 2, by putting eight goals past Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg, before rounding off he group stage with a victory over the hosts Traktor on penalties shots.
* With Avangard topping the group they qualified for the final against runners-up Metallurg. Once again it was The Omsk-based team that claimed the win, this time by a score of 5-2 to clinch the cup.
* The gold medal game started with few attacks and shots. Nikolai Lemtyugov had two shots that troubled Koshechkin. Metallurg responded with a Kovar shot during a power play but the puck got stuck in the gear of goalie Dominik Furch. Two minutes before the break, Kulik wrapped around the goal and took a shot that Koshechkin turned away, but Valentin Pyanov was on hand to net the opening goal.
* The second period quickly turned into the goal fest that many fans expected all the tournament’s games were going to be. The red hot Lemtyugov converted a power play from close range as Avangard kept the pressure on and could have won the game there and then, but Vasili Koshechkin kept Metallurg in the game. Magnitogorsk’s foreign-born players then tied the game. First, Wolski squeezed the puck in between the pipes from close range, and two minutes later Oscar Osala scored a somewhat similar goal. Before the period was over, Ilya Zubov once again pulled Omsk ahead on the power play.
* Magnitgorsk gave everything to salvage the game. The most tangible chances could have come during the power play, but Avangard defended well, preventing Metallurg's top line creating anything substantial. With four minutes to go, Nikolai Lemtyugov put together a masterpiece and scored his sixth goal of the tournament. Sergei Shirokov iced it with an empty net goal.

* Having played the most consistent hockey, Avangard were deserved winners of the tournament. Dominik Furch was named the best goaltender.

* Avtomobilist defeated Traktor in the bronze medal game leaving the hosts medal-less.
