Avangard v Metallurg Nk 4-2
Nikita Nikitin celebrated a triumphant return to his home team, getting a goal and an assist in his first game back at Avangard. The 30-year-old defenseman began his career in Omsk before heading across the Atlantic to play for the St. Louis Blues, the Columbus Blue Jackets and finally the Edmonton Oilers in a six-season stint that yielded 259 NHL appearances. And on Saturday he made his return for the first time since the 2012-13 lock-out to help his team to victory over Metallurg Novokuznetsk. It didn’t take long for Nikitin to make his presence felt: he opened the scoring with just 5:08 played in the game and completed a successful return with an assist as Derek Roy made it four in the 37th minute.
In between, Alexander Perezhogin and Valentin Pyanov found the net for Avangard, while Nikita Yazkov pulled one back for Kuznya. The final say went to Metallurg’s Kirill Lebedev, who made it 4-2 late in the second period but could not inspire a greater fightback from his team.

Traktor v Slovan 1-3
It’s not been the easiest of starts to life in the KHL for Slovan’s summer signing Kyle Chipchura – but life for the Canadian forward is looking a bit better tonight after his first goal in 12 games. The 30-year-old scored the game-winner in his team’s 3-1 victory at Traktor, helping Milos Riha’s men snap Traktor’s three-game winning streak with his 22nd-minute strike. And it was good day for breaking ducks as all four goalscorers opened their accounts for the season. Patrik Lusnak and Juraj Siska found the net for Slovan before Igor Mirnov pulled one back for the host.
Dynamo Moscow v Dinamo Minsk 0-3
Dynamo’s goal touch seems to have deserted it after a second successive blank helped Dinamo to victory. After being shut-out by Torpedo during the week, the Moscow team suffered the indignity of another failure against its namesake from Belarus. This time Ben Scrivens was the goalie in form, turning away 34 shots to claim the win. At the other end Nick Bailen gave the visitor an early lead before a late breakaway goal from Andrei Stepanov and a 59th-minute effort from Alexander Materukhin put the issue beyond any doubt.
