Metallurg Magnitogorsk v Dinamo Riga 2-1
A late goal from Wojtek Wolski saw Metallurg edge a tight game at home to Dinamo Riga. Wolski struck on the power play in the 58th minute, tapping the puck home after Sergei Mazyakin and Jan Kovar passed their way around the visiting defense to snap a 1-1 tie and finally end Dinamo’s resistance. The Latvians had outshot Magnitka over the first two periods, recovering from Chris Lee’s 16th-minute strike to tie the game in the middle stanza through Mikelis Redlihs. But the home side had more of the play in the third and eventually got its reward late on. Sergei Mozyakin, still one goal shy of Boris Mikhailov’s All-time Russian goalscoring record, had two assists but saw his goalless streak extend to a fourth game.
Salavat Yulaev v Jokerit 2-3
An even later goal from Tommi Huhtala snatched victory for Jokerit – with just 36 seconds on the clock. He struck on the breakaway, powered past Maxim Goncharov in the home defense and converted his one-on-one chance against Niklas Svedberg to give the Finns all three points. It was Huhtala’s second of the game – he put Jokerit 2-1 up in the 51st minute, only for Teemu Hartikainen to tie it up on the power play a few minutes later. Hartikainen also scored twice on the night, opening the scoring with another power play goal early in the second period. But Mika Niemi cancelled that one out late just before the second intermission.
Lada v Lokomotiv 2-3 SO
Andrei Loktionov’s shoot-out winner finally gave Loko the verdict after Lada twice pegged back the Railwaymen. Loko made a great start, forcing an early penalty and taking full advantage through Alexander Kadeikin to lead in the third minute. But penalty trouble handed Lada the opportunity to tie it up immediately and Alexander Bumagin did exactly that to convert a 5-on-3 power play. Lokomotiv was back in front in the second period after a defensive error allowed Pavel Kraskovsky to pick out Daniil Apalkov from behind the net; Edgars Masalskis could not find a way to keep out the shot. But Lada levelled in the third with another power play marker. Anton Shenfeld got the goal, firing in from the blue line after being given time and space by Lokomotiv’s shorthanded defense.
Neftekhimik v Vityaz 2-1 SO
Dan Sexton’s shoot-out winner gave Neftekhimik the verdict following a 1-1 tie at home to Vityaz. Mario Kempe put the visitor ahead in the 37th minute, but the lead lasted just 121 seconds before Richard Gynge levelled the scores.
Ak Bars v Dynamo Moscow 4-1
Ak Bars picked up a solid victory over Dynamo Moscow, showing signs of a return to form while the Muscovites suffered a third straight loss. Jiri Sekac gave the home team a perfect start when he opened the scoring after just 65 seconds but the game remained in the balance until deep into the third period. Dynamo held its own at both ends of the ice and tied the scores midway through the middle session through Ansel Galimov. But the outcome turned on five minutes in the final stanza. Vladimir Tkachyov put Ak Bars back in front in the 50th minute before a penalty on Mat Robinson saw Anton Glinkin convert the power play to put the game out of reach for the visitor. Justin Azevedo added a in the last minute. Ak Bars improves its overall record to four wins from eight games.
Spartak v Admiral 1-2
Spartak’s four-game winning streak come to a surprise end at home to struggling Admiral. Slovenian international Robert Sabolic marked his return from international duty with the opening goal and Alexander Gorshkov put the Sailors 2-0 in front before Yaroslav Dyblenko got one back for the host in the 40th minute. But the Red-and-Whites could not tie the game in the third and Admiral sailed away with a 2-1 victory.
Torpedo v Amur 0-1 OT
Amur head coach Miskhat Fakhrutdinov got a vote of confidence from the club’s management despite a poor start to the season – and the team repaid that faith with a hard-fought overtime win at Torpedo. The teams failed to score in regulation, with Ilya Proskuryakov making 28 saves for the host and Juha Metsola stopping 20 efforts from Torpedo. But Teemu Ramstedy settled the game in overtime, giving Amur only its second win of the season.
