Traktor v Dinamo Minsk 2-3
Two late goals gave Dinamo Minsk a narrow victory – and left former player Paul Szczechura on the losing side despite scoring twice. Szczechura gave Traktor the lead in the 22nd minute and repeated the trick in the 46th after Evgeny Lisovets had tied the scores midway through the game. But it all went wrong for the host in the last three minutes. Nikita Komarov made it 2-2 with just under three minutes to play and Rob Klinkhammer shot home a one-timer for his first goal since joining Dinamo. That won the game on 58:44.
Lada v Vityaz 3-0
An impressive defensive display limited Vityaz to just 12 shots on Ilya Ezhov’s net as Lada eased to a 3-0 home win. Alexander Bumagin opened the scoring with his fourth of the season in the 16th minute before Semyon Valuisky doubled the lead early in the second stanza. Georgy Belousov wrapped up the scoring in the 35th minute, taking his individual tally to four as well.
Neftekhimik v Amur 2-1 SO
Neftekhimik edged a shoot-out verdict over Amur when the teams met in Nizhnekamsk. Richard Gynge put the home team ahead in the last minute of the opening session, but Vitaly Atyushov tied it up midway through the third. Sergei Konkov settled the shoot-out, scoring both his attempts. Ville Kolpanen made decisive saves from his compatriots Kristian Kuusela and Teemu Ramstedt.
Ak Bars v Lokomotiv 0-2
Clinical finishing and inspired goaltending made the difference as Lokomotiv edged past Ak Bars in Kazan. Alexei Murygin led the way for the visitor with 27 saves to keep the home offense at bay and give Loko a chance at winning the game. At the other end, Ak Bars did most things right in terms of denying the Railwaymen a good look at Emil Garipov’s net. Lokomotiv could only muster 13 shots on goal over the 60 minutes. However, even though chances were scarce, the visitor made the best of them. Andrei Loktionov opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a wonderfully-struck backhand after Yegor Averin pounced on a loose puck in his own zone to launch a swift counter attack. Then Petri Kontiola doubled the lead with 10 minutes to play with another breakaway goal. The Finn collected Brandon Kozun’s pass, glided past a defender and unleashed an early shot that gave Gariopv no chance.
Torpedo v Admiral 2-3 SO
Andrei Sigaryov was the hero for Admiral after he snatched a shoot-out win at Torpedo. Alexei Potapov put the host ahead in just the second minute, and Carter Ashton scored in the 13th. But two goals from Robert Sabolic ensured that the game finished 2-2 and continued the Slovenian international’s run of good form. Overtime failed to conjure a shot on either net before Sigaryov did the business in the shoot-out.
Sochi v Kunlun 3-1
Kunlun Red Star brought two former Sochi players – Janne Jalasvaara and Max Warn – back to the Black Sea coast, but there was no happy reunion for them. Warn did manage an assist on Chad Rau’s game-tying goal midway through the first period, but that was as good as it got for the visitor. Instead Sochi shrugged off the absence of leading scorer Andre Petersson to inflict a second defeat on the Chinese team as two of the KHL’s newest clubs met for the first time. At the other end, Alexander Delnov opened the scoring after nine minutes. Then two second-period goals settled the outcome. The first came just after the midway point while Jalasvaara was serving a minor penalty; Sochi’s power play clicked into gear and Ilya Krikunov converted a move that involved Oscar Fantenburg and Andrei Kostitsyn. Two minutes later Ivan Zakharchuk made it 3-1 with a goal on the wraparound that all-but ended Kunlun’s hopes.
