Amur v Lada 1-0
Vladislav Ushenin scored his third goal in two games to give Amur a 1-0 victory over Lada. Ushenin, who scored twice in his team’s win over Ak Bars, struck in the 52nd minute. Juha Metsola made 26 saves.
Admiral v Ak Bars 3-4 SO
Ak Bars, defeated at Amur two days ago, had to dig deep to avoid a similar fate in Vladivostok. Admiral opened up a 3-1 lead in this game, helped by power play goals from Dmitry Sayustov and Jonahthan Blum in the first period. But Ak Bars hit back through Alexander Svitov and Fyodor Malykhin’s first of the season tied the game in the third. Vladimir Tkachyov then sealed the win in a shoot-out.
Kunlun v Neftekhimik 2-1
Kunlun was billed as predominantly a Beijing team, but the newcomer seems to be entirely at home in Shanghai as well. The second game in China’s second city brought another victory, with Neftekhimik becoming the latest team to struggle in the Orient this season. Tuuka Mantyla, the team’s leading scorer, added two more points to his tally with an assist on Brett Bellemare’s first-period opener before getting the game winner in the 49th minute on a 5-on-3 power play. In between Igor Polygalov gave Neftekhimik hope with a 22nd-minute equalizer but the visitor also lost Dmitry Ogurtsov early in the third after he was ejected from the game on a slashing call after wrapping his stick somewhere around Oleg Yashin’s throat.
Barys Astana 4 CSKA Moscow 0

After 10 successive victories, CSKA was the red-hot favorite ahead of Tuesday’s game at struggling Barys – but went down to a shock defeat. The Kazakh team endured a difficult start to the season but after replacing head coach Andrei Nazarov with Eduard Zankovets, things have started to pick up a little. And Barys proved that point in some style against the table topper. It was a game where everyone played his part. Strong discipline gave CSKA just one opportunity to unleash its potent power play. Capable goaltending from Henrik Karlsson turned away 34 shots on the home net. And at the other end, an early goal from Vyacheslav Tryasunov gave the team vital belief that it could win this one. That belief was crucial. CSKA had by far the better of the play, but with a lead to defend Barys was determined not to buckle. A power play goal in the second period saw Evgeny Rymarev double the lead and, as the pressure continued, further breakaway goals in the third enabled Nigel Dawes and Roman Starchenko to put the game out of reach. For CSKA it was a shock result, but Dmitry Kvartalnov’s team will no doubt feel that there wasn’t too much wrong with a performance that saw it outshoot Barys 34-18. Next time, though, some of those shots need to find their mark.

Metallurg Magnitogorsk 4 Slovan Bratislava 2

A three-point haul put Sergei Mozyakin out in front in this season’s scoring race as Magnitka came from behind to beat Slovan. Russia’s all-time record goalscorer fired his eigth of the season to make it 3-2 to Metallurg in the 56th minute, converting a 5-on-3 power play. One minute later Oskar Osala doubled the lead as the host inflicted maximum punishment for Slovan’s misdemeanors.

Mozyakin also had a helper on Wojtek Wolski’s opener after four minutes but could do nothing as Slovan hit back with two quick goals to lead at the first intermission. Vaclav Nederost and Tomas Kubalik did the damage. But midway through the game another power play goal, this time for Alexander Semin, and another Mozyakin assist, tied the scores.
Salavat Yulaev v Sochi 1-3
Andre Petersson got his seventh goal of the season to help Sochi to a 3-1 win at Salavat Yulaev. The Swede scored late in the second period to wrap up the win and take his points tally to 14, just two behind Sergei Mozyakin. Earlier, Zakhar Armazastsev gave Salavat a first-period lead but Ben Maxwell and Andrei Kostitsyn turned the game around in the second.
Vityaz v Torpedo 3-0
Vityaz produced more evidence of the good work done by head coach Vitaly Belov, producing a convincing victory over fancied Torpedo. Alexei Makeyev and Yury Koksharov gave the home team a perfect start with goals in the first six minutes before Alexei Kopeikin added a third on 36 minutes. Harri Sateri made 40 saves in a 3-0 win.
Lokomotiv v Spartak 6-3
Two goals from youngster Pavel Kraskovksy led Lokomotiv to a 6-3 win over Spartak. There was little indication of the excitement to come in a goalless opening period but after Vyacheslav Leshchenko gave Spartak the lead early in the second, Loko hit back hard. Kraskovsky tied it up, triggering an avalanche of three goals in as many minutes. Then the 20-year-old got his second to make it 4-1 on the half-hour. Alexander Vasilyev pulled one back for Spartak, but nothing could stop the host ending its three-game losing streak; Alexander Polunin and Andrei Loktionov added further scores in the final session.
