NHL - Pre-Season Results [Sept 26-30]

Saturday, September 26
Jeff Skinner scored twice for the Hurricanes in a 5-3 win against the Islanders in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Carolina trailed 3-2 but rallied with third-period goals by Eric Staal, Skinner, and Victor Rask into an empty net. Joakim Nordstrom also scored for the Hurricanes, and Eddie Lack made 14 saves on 16 shots before he was relieved by Drew MacIntyre. John Tavares and Ryan Strome scored to give New York a 2-1 lead. Ryan Pulock made it 3-2 at 7:39 of the third period. Skinner also scored in a 3-on-3 overtime period.Torey Krug scored 1:58 into overtime to give the Bruins a 4-3 win against the Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena. Jakub Kindl scored for Detroit 1:35 into the third period to tie the game 3-3. David Krejci gave Boston a 2-0 lead with goals 2:18 apart in the first period. Henrik Zetterberg answered for Detroit at 13:13 before teammate Tomas Tatar tied it 43 seconds into the second. Brian Ferlin gave Boston a 3-2 lead at 15:11. Malcolm Subban made 18 saves for Boston. Petr Mrazek made 27 for Detroit.Derek Stepan scored two third-period goals to help the Rangers to a come-from-behind 4-3 preseason win against the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center. After Reid Boucher gave the Devils a 1-0 lead 2:34 into the second period, Rangers defenseman Raphael Diaz scored two power-play goals for a 2-1 lead. Stefan Matteau tied it with 38 seconds left in the period, and Kyle Palmieri gave New Jersey a 3-2 lead 31 seconds into the third. Stepan scored at 7:23 and 13:12. He also had two assists. Henrik Lundqvist made 23 saves for the Rangers; Cory Schneider made 20 for the Devils.Tyler Ennis had a hat trick plus an assist for the Sabres in a 6-4 win against the Senators at Canadian Tire Centre. Jack Eichel assisted on Ennis' first two goals, the second which gave Buffalo a 4-2 lead after it trailed 2-0. Mark Stone and Marc Methot gave Ottawa that two-goal lead; Nick Paul and Bobby Ryan also scored. Evander Kane, Zemgus Girgensons and Johan Larsson (empty net) had the other Sabres goals. Chad Johnson made 30 saves for Buffalo. Craig Anderson made 25 for Ottawa.Mike Condon made 17 saves, and Dale Weise scored early in the second period to give the Canadiens a 1-0 preseason win against the Maple Leafs at Air Canada Centre. Weise scored 44 seconds into the second, assisted by David Desharnais and Mark Barberio. Condon, 25, played for Hamilton in the American Hockey League last season. James Reimer made 20 saves for Toronto.
Sunday, September 27
Cam Ward made 26 saves to lead the Hurricanes to a 2-1 win against the Senators at Mile One Centre in St. John's, Newfoundland. Jaccob Slavin broke a 1-1 tie with 5:10 remaining. Brock McGinn scored in the first period for the Hurricanes. Shane Prince tied it for Ottawa in the second period. Senators goalie Andrew Hammond made 24 saves.

Monday, September 28
Jimmy Howard made 31 saves to help the Red Wings to a 3-1 victory against the Bruins at TD Garden. Drew Miller and Tomas Jurco scored for Detroit in the second period, and Andreas Athanasiou scored 48 seconds into the third period. Loui Eriksson scored a power-play goal with 51 seconds remaining to end Howard’s shutout bid. Tuukka Rask played the entire game for the Bruins and made 21 saves on 24 shots. Detroit was 0-for-3 on the power play; Boston was 1-for-5.Andre Burakovsky's power-play goal at 7:39 of the third period proved to be the game-winner in the Capitals' 3-1 victory against the Islanders at Barclays Center. Sean Collins scored at 2:48 of the second period, and Karl Alzner sealed the win for Washington at 19:03 of the third. Capitals goalie Philipp Grubauer started and made 13 saves. Justin Peters relieved him midway through the game and made 10 saves on 11 shots. Kirill Petrov scored for the Islanders at 18:09 of the third period. Thomas Greiss allowed two goals on 24 shots.Keith Yandle scored on a penalty shot in overtime to give the Rangers a 3-2 win against the Flyers at Madison Square Garden. Yandle was in on a breakaway against Philadelphia goalie Steve Mason when Scott Laughton was called for hooking at 1:16 of overtime. Dan Girardi and Chris Kreider scored third-period goals to tie the game 2-2. The Flyers took a 2-0 lead on goals by Mark Streit in the first period and Wayne Simmonds in the second. Mason made 41 saves. Antti Raanta played the entire game for the Rangers and made 27 saves.
Tuesday, September 29

Evan Rodrigues scored twice and Jack Eichel scored a shorthanded goal for the Sabres in a 4-0 preseason win against the Maple Leafs at First Niagara Center.
Robin Lehner made 24 saves for the Sabres, who are 4-1-0 this preseason.
Eichel scored 13:48 into the first period, giving the Sabres a shorthanded goal in each of their first five preseason games. Matt Moulson's tip-in gave Buffalo a 2-0 lead 59 seconds into the second. Rodrigues scored at 2:41 of the second and at 10:51 of the third. Jonathan Bernier made 14 saves on 17 shots playing half the game; James Reimer made 14 saves on 15 shots in relief.

Wednesday, September 30
Nathan Gerbe scored in the fourth round of the shootout to give the Hurricanes a 4-3 win against the Capitals at PNC Arena. Carolina rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the second period on goals 2:19 apart by Riley Nash and Gerbe. Elias Lindholm scored in the first period. Alex Ovechkin scored 20 seconds into the game for the Capitals. Stanislav Galiev and Michael Latta also had goals. Eddie Lack played the entire game and made 31 saves. Braden Holtby played the first two periods and allowed three goals on 23 shots. Justin Peters made four saves. T.J. Oshie scored in the first round of the shootout for Washington. Jeff Skinner responded in the second round for Carolina.Henrik Lundqvist made 39 saves to lead the Rangers to a 3-2 victory against the Bruins at Madison Square Garden. Lundqvist allowed a goal on the Bruins' first shot, a tip-in by Brett Connolly 40 seconds into the game, then stopped 38 consecutive shots before Connolly scored again with 1:57 left. He was at his best in the second period, when he stopped all 19 shots.
The Rangers tied the game 1-1 on Viktor Stalberg's goal at 16:27 of the second period, and J.T. Miller scored less than three minutes later to put New York ahead to stay. Rick Nash had a power-play goal at 5:21 of the third period that turned out to be the game-winner. The regulation 60 minutes were followed by a 3-on-3 overtime in which neither team scored.
Travis Zajac scored two goals in the New Jersey Devils' 4-2 win against the Flyers at Wells Fargo Center. Chris Porter, who Philadelphia put on waivers earlier Wednesday, and Wayne Simmonds scored to give the Flyers a 2-1 lead after the first period. Adam Henrique and Zajac scored in the second period to put New Jersey ahead 3-2. Zajac scored an empty-net goal with 32 seconds remaining. Damon Severson and Jacob Josefson each had two assists for New Jersey. Michael Del Zotto assisted on both goals for Philadelphia. Michal Neuvirth made 15 saves on 18 shots before being relieved by Jason LaBarbera at the start of the third period. LaBarbera made saves on all eight shots he faced in the third. Josefson scored on LaBarbera in a demonstration of the NHL's new 3-on-3 overtime format after LaBarbera misplayed the puck on a dump-in.
