New Jersey @ NY Rangers 2-1 OT - Lee Stempniak's goal off a 2-on-1 rush with Adam Henrique at 3:07 of overtime gave New Jersey a 2-1 win against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. It was the first win of the season for the Devils. The puck, however, had to be retrieved out of the stands by Devils captain Andy Greene. He had to trade a different puck with the female fan who wound up with the game-winning puck, a result of catching it after it was shot over the glass in frustration by Rangers center Derek Stepan. The Devils presented the puck to Hynes in the dressing room. The Devils were slow and the Rangers were fast to start the game. New York also was playing with a lead after Stepan scored his third goal of the season at 3:12 of the first period.
But Stempniak credited the decision by forward Kyle Palmieri at 19:13 of the first period to drop the gloves and fight Kevin Klein at center ice for getting the Devils out of their slumber. It was Palmieri's fourth career NHL fight and first since Jan. 5, 2014. Henrique tied the game at 1:52 of the second period with his third goal of the season, a result of collapsing on his own rebound and putting it past Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist. New Jersey didn't get a shot on goal during a 5-on-3 for 96 seconds early in the third period, but it killed off back to back penalties later in the period to allow for overtime.

Edmonton @ Vancouver 2-1 OT - Lauri Korpikoski had the puck to end the game Sunday, scoring on a breakaway 1:46 into overtime to give Edmonton a 2-1 win. Andrej Sekera stripped the puck from Canucks captain Henrik Sedin in the Oilers zone to start a 2-on-1 rush, then sent Korpikoski in alone for a shot that trickled through the legs of Vancouver goalie Ryan Miller and across the goal line. For all the early attention on McDavid, the No. 1 pick of the 2015 NHL Draft, coach Todd McLellan said it was fitting Korpikoski, who was acquired in a trade with the Coyotes four days after McDavid was selected, scored the winner.
Vancouver had a great chance to go ahead 2:30 into the third period, but Daniel Sedin chipped the puck over a wide-open net from inside the crease after Nilsson stopped Henrik Sedin on a breakaway. With Derek Dorsett in the penalty box for tripping, McDavid chipped a pass off the boards to himself to gain the blue line, getting behind Canucks defenseman Luca Sbisa in the process. McDavid cut down near the goal line before sending a pass through the slot to the other side to Yakupov, who buried a one-timer over the glove of a sliding Miller for a 1-0 lead at 3:23 of the first period. Bartkowski tied it with 4:17 left in the first period on a point shot that deflected off Oilers defenseman Mark Fayne in the high slot and dipped under the glove of Nilsson as Bo Horvat crashed the crease. Horvat made heavy contact with Nilsson, but the puck appeared to be past the Edmonton goalie already, and after some deliberation, McLellan decided to not ask for a review. After getting the break on Daniel Sedin's close-range miss, Nilsson made a headfirst diving save on Radim Vrbata on a rebound to keep it tied with 6:41 left.
