NHL Results - Thu, Jan 15, 2015

NY Rangers @ Boston 0-3 - Patrice Bergeron scored at 4:00 of the first period, capitalizing on a rebound to beat Rangers goalie Cam Talbot. Dougie Hamilton had the assist, breaking a four-game pointless streak. David Krejci gave the Bruins a 2-0 lead 2:49 into the second period. Torey Krug whipped a pass across the front of the crease from just beyond the dot, and Krejci smashed it past Talbot, extending his point streak to five games. Loui Eriksson scored his 10th goal of the season at 9:49 of the third period. Batting down the puck at the edge of the crease, Eriksson settled it and calmly lifted it over Talbot's shoulder. Krug, who has a five-game point streak, and Kevan Miller assisted.

Minnesota @ Buffalo 7-0 - Seven Wild players scored. Minnesota went ahead 2-0 in the first period and had a 5-0 lead in the second. Kyle Brodziak scored a shorthanded goal 6:00 into the second period, a League-worst eighth shorthanded goal allowed by the Sabres this season. Dumba's goal 9:06 into the second period made it 4-0 and Jared Spurgeon's sixth with 1:06 left in regulation was the Wild's third of the period. Dumba was recalled from Iowa of the American Hockey League on Wednesday. Matt Cooke's fourth goal 4:26 into the third period made it 6-0 when the puck went in off Sabres forward Philip Varone's skate and past Enroth. Center Erik Haula made it 7-0 with 1:33 left.

Vancouver @ Philadelphia 4-0 - Philadelphia had a good start but was deflated when Bonino carried the puck down the middle of the ice, spun off Flyers defenseman Michael Del Zotto and scored from the left circle at 6:35 of the first period. Henrik Sedin made it 2-0 when he skated through the left circle and redirected Daniel Sedin's shot over Emery's right shoulder for a power-play goal at 13:21. The Canucks took control of the game with two goals in 22 seconds early in the second period. Vrbata started the run with a power-play goal 1:21 into the period when his shot from the left faceoff dot beat Emery over his right shoulder, blocker side under the crossbar. The puck bounced off the back bar and came out so quickly a replay review was needed to uphold the goal. Wayne Simmonds turned over the puck at the Vancouver blue line and Alexander Edler sent a pass the other way that split Philadelphia defensemen Luke Schenn and Carlo Colaiacovo and allowed Hansen to skate in alone on goal. His wrist shot from the hash marks beat Zepp and gave the Canucks a 4-0 lead 1:43 into the second. Philadelphia’s best opportunity came with 13:35 left in the second period when Luke Schenn had an open chance in the slot but Miller robbed him with a glove save.

Montreal @ Ottawa 1-4 - Montreal gave up a goal to Ottawa's Mika Zibanejad 69 seconds into the game. Zibanejad jumped on a rebound in front of goaltender Dustin Tokarski, starting his eighth game of the season. With the Canadiens playing back-to-back games, Therrien opted to rest No. 1 goaltender Carey Price. Max Pacioretty tied the game at 14:35 of the first period with his 21st goal and extended his goal streak to six games, tying Denis Savard for the longest goal-scoring streak by a Canadiens player since 1991. But another rebound goal by Jean-Gabriel Pageau at 16:26 of the first period put the Senators in front 2-1. Erik Condra scored into an empty net for Ottawa, and Milan Michalek had two assists. With the Senators up 3-1 after two periods, Anderson made a good save on Brendan Gallagher, who broke behind Ottawa defenseman Jared Cowen in the first minute of the third period. Anderson got his right toe on Gallagher's shot. Karlsson scored his first goal since Dec. 7 at 2:16 of the second period. He took a pass in the slot from Michalek and his shot beat Tokarski over the right shoulder to give the Senators a 3-1 lead. Therrien pointed out only the line of Pacioretty, Gallagher and Tomas Plekanec is providing offense for the Canadiens lately.

Edmonton @ Tampa Bay 2-3 - Ondrej Palat scored two third-period goals, including the go-ahead goal at 11:59, to lift the Lightning to a 3-2 win. Palat's 11th goal came when he sent a wrist shot past Oilers defenseman Oscar Klefbom and high over the stick of goalie Ben Scrivens off of a centering pass from Tyler Johnson. Palat tied the game 2-2 at 1:33 of the third period when he collected a loose puck off a shot by forward Nikita Kucherov and sent a shot past Scrivens. The Oilers took 1-0 lead at 13:52 of the first period when forward Benoit Pouliot scored his ninth goal of the season, and sixth in the past four games. With the Lightning on a power play, Nugent-Hopkins gathered a loose puck and beat defenseman Anton Stralman to the net. Tampa Bay goalie Ben Bishop saved Nugent-Hopkins' shot, but Pouliot was there for the easy follow up. Lightning center Steven Stamkos tied the game at 7:10 of the second period with his 26th goal. He beat Oilers defenseman Justin Schultz to the net and scored on a shot that went over Scrivens' shoulder. Edmonton took a 2-1 lead with 58 seconds remaining in the second period on Pouliot's second of the game. The wing's first shot was saved, but the loose puck deflected off the skate of Jason Garrison and tricked past Bishop.

Colorado @ Florida 4-2 - Holden broke a 2-2 tie with 8:57 remaining and one second left in Brian Campbell's high-sticking penalty. Holden's wrist shot from inside the blue line deflected off the stick of Scottie Upshall, bounced off the ice and beat Luongo to the stick side with Cody McLeod providing a screen. Holden took advantage of a defensive breakdown by the Panthers. After a pass across the blue line, Barrie was left alone to skate in and beat Luongo to the glove side with a shot from the slot. Iginla scored an empty-net goal with 27 seconds remaining; it was the 573rd goal of his NHL career, tied for 20th place with Mike Bossy. Semyon Varlamov made 30 saves for his 89th victory with Colorado, tying David Aebischer for fourth place on the Avalanche list. Coach Patrick Roy is first with 282. Ekblad made it 1-1 at 5:15 at the end of a 5-on-3. He scored just as Landeskog's tripping penalty expired with a shot from the slot that beat Varlamov low to the stick side. Landeskog gave Colorado a 2-1 lead at 12:02 of the second period. After winning a battle behind the Florida net with defenseman Dmitry Kulikov, Landeskog skated in front of Luongo and slid the puck behind the goaltender's legs. Barkov scored at 13:25 when he redirected Brad Boyes' centering pass from the edge of the right circle. Jonathan Huberdeau had the second assist on the goal, giving him eight points in five games.

Calgary @ Phoenix 4-1 - David Jones scored to break a tie less than five minutes into the third period, sending the Flames on their way to a 4-1 win.
Coyotes goalie Mike Smith was able to stop TJ Brodie's shot, but Jones and linemate Lance Bouma were left unmarked, and Jones lifted his seventh goal over Smith at 4:51 to put Calgary in front to stay. Mark Giordano iced the game for the Flames with 4:02 left, beating Smith through a screen for his 11th goal.
Sean Monahan finished the scoring with an empty-net goal with 1:25 remaining.
Mikael Backlund scored a goal for the fourth straight game to give the Flames a 1-0 lead 1:03 into the second period. Mikkel Boedker answered with his fifth goal in the past four games to even the game after two periods. Rookie forward Johnny Gaudreau moved the puck ahead to Backlund, whose innocent-looking shot from the right circle grazed off the skate of Coyotes defenseman Keith Yandle and eluded Smith's glove. Phoenix tied the game at 12:36 of the second. Kyle Chipchura set up Yandle in the slot for a shot that Ortio stopped and pushed away from the crease. Boedker gathered the puck in between the circles, then stickhandled around traffic in a serpentine pattern for about five seconds before finally beating Ortio with a wrist shot under the crossbar at 12:36 for his 14th goal, which leads the Coyotes.
