NHL Results - Tue, Mar 03, 2015

Nashville @ New Jersey 1-3 - Predators coach Peter Laviolette looked to spark his offense by shuffling his line combinations and inserted Calle Jarnkrok, a healthy scratch against the New York Rangers on Monday, into the lineup. Larsson took a pass from Patrik Elias at the right hash off a 3-on-3 rush and scored into the top left corner 58 seconds into the game to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Gelinas scored a power-play goal off a slap shot from the point at 3:57 to extend the lead to 2-0. The Predators pulled within 2-1 early in the second when Fisher pounced on a rebound and scored at the left post at 2:11. The goal seemed to ignite Nashville, which outshot the Devils 21-6 in the period. Hutton went to the bench to give the Predators an extra attacker with 2:40 remaining in the third, but the Predators got one shot and Cammalleri was credited with a goal when he was tripped by Seth Jones when he was into the Predators end on a breakaway with 1:14 remaining.
Calgary @ Philadelphia 3-2 OT - At 6:30 of the first period, Michael Del Zotto tried skating the puck through center ice, but Hudler poked it away. Hudler lost the puck in the Philadelphia zone but Mason Raymond picked it up and found Monahan on the right side, and Monahan fired a hard shot that beat Mason past his blocker. The goal was Monahan's 22nd of the season, tying the total he had as a rookie last season. Then at 4:58 of the second, Flames rookie forward Emile Poirier intercepted Wayne Simmonds' clearing attempt and found Lance Bouma deep in the Flyers zone. Bouma's backhand attempt along the ice bounced off Mason and Streit to Backlund on right post for a tap-in goal. The assist for Poirier was his first NHL point. The Flyers chopped into the lead on Couturier's goal 53 seconds into the third. They appeared to tie the game at 4:24 of the third when a bouncing puck in front went off the Flyers' Nick Schultz and past Ramo, but referees waved off the goal, ruling Schultz made incidental contact with Ramo in the crease before the puck crossed the goal line. The Flyers did tie the game at 8:13 of the third when Streit got in front of the net and tipped a Michael Raffl shot past Ramo. Giroux had an assist, the 300th of his career. A Kris Russell pass in transition bounced off TJ Brodie to Gaudreau at center ice. Gaudreau pushed the puck ahead to Brodie, and the defenseman carried it deep into the Philadelphia end and centered it for Jiri Hudler, whose shot along the ice got between goalie Steve Mason's pads at 1:23 of overtime.
Washington @ Columbus 5-3 - Ovechkin scored on the power play at 3:17 of third period off a one-timer from the left circle to give the Capitals a 4-2 lead. Hartnell scored his 16th goal on the power-play at 9:07 of the third period from the edge of the crease made it 4-3. The game took a strange turn with 2:16 left in regulation and the Capitals clinging to the one-goal lead. Marcus Johansson blocked a shot before a Capitals’ icing. Before the faceoff, he tested the stick on the ice and it snapped. He was given a delay of game penalty. Fortunately for the Capitals, Holtby made the final three of his 27 saves during the Columbus power play and Johansson stepped out of the penalty box to score into an empty net with nine seconds left. Bobrovsky was tested early and often, and Ovechkin had a redirect off of Brooks Orpik’s shot at 3:37 for the 1-0 advantage. Fehr scored his 18th goal when he beat three Blue Jackets players for a rebound of a Tim Gleason shot. The game got testy in the second period and the Blue Jackets trailed 3-2 going into the third. Dalton Prout said several skirmishes and a hit by Blue Jackets forward Jared Boll that forced Capitals center Michael Latta out of the game with an upper-body injury was the catalyst. Savard made it 2-1 at 1:51 of the second but Wilson responded 48 seconds later to give the Capitals a 3-1 lead. At 8:43, Hartnell was dragged down by Mike Green. Hartnell went for the upper-right corner, but Holtby stuck out his glove and diverted the puck over the net. Hartnell got revenge at 15:03 by tipping a Jack Johnson shot for his 15th goal to cut the deficit to one again.

Buffalo @ Tampa Bay 0-3 - Stamkos gave the Lightning a 1-0 lead at 16:37 when he received a wrap-around pass from Alex Killorn in the slot and sent a wrist shot past Lindback. The shot appeared to hit Nikita Zadorov's stick and take a bounce that caught Lindback out of position. Callahan's goal came on a two-man advantage at 2:48 in the second period to give the Lightning a 2-0 lead. He took a pass from Tyler Johnson in front of the goal and punched a shot past Sabres goalie Anders Lindback. It's the fourth time in his career he has scored 20 goals. Hedman scored on the same power play at 4:24 in the period with a snap shot from the right circle that got past Lindback on the glove side to give the Lightning a 3-0 lead. It was the Lightning's sixth power-play goal in the past five games. Coburn had a hit on Brian Gionta and got into a fight with Marcus Foligno during his 16:29 of ice time.
Toronto @ Florida 3-2 - Peter Holland broke a 2-2 tie at 5:28 of the third period and the Maple Leafs ended a franchise-record 16-game road losing streak with a 3-2 win. Holland scored on a backhand rebound against Al Montoya, who was forced into action after starter Roberto Luongo left the game after the first period. Montoya was then injured early in the third period but stayed in the game for more than 10 minutes before Luongo returned to finish out the game. Holland scored after Montoya stopped David Booth’s shot from the slot. He skated around Montoya before flipping the backhand into the open net. Tyler Bozak ended the Maple Leafs’ scoreless drought at 163:18 when he scored on the power play at 4:40 of the second period.  Ekblad, who came in tied with Dallas’ John Klingberg for most goals among rookie defensemen, broke a 1-1 tie at 13:12 of the second period. With Phil Kessel in the penalty box for hooking, Ekblad scored on a one-timer from the point that he released while falling to one knee. The shot went past Bernier to the glove side. Pirri opened the scoring with 17.9 seconds left in the first period when he took a centering pass from Hayes, and sent a shot from the slot past Bernier. Bozak scored on the power play at 4:40 of the second when he put home a rebound after Montoya stopped Kessel’s shot from the wing. Montoya was shaken up when Nazem Kadri tied the game 2-2 for Toronto when he collided with Brian Campbell. Montoya left the ice and play was stopped for several minutes before he returned. There was another delay during a stoppage at 3:34 of the third when Montoya walked to the Panthers bench and had a discussion with a Panthers trainer, but Montoya again stayed in the game.
Ottawa @ Minnesota 2-3 SO - Matt Dumba's first goal came 52 seconds into the second period on a booming slap shot from the point off a one-timer. Mikael Granlund gathered in a defensive-zone turnover by the Senators at the right circle and feathered a cross-zone pass to Dumba, whose slap shot went over goaltender Andrew Hammond's blocker. Dumba scored again at 8:05, jamming in a rebound on the doorstep for his sixth goal. Chris Stewart got the first assist in his first game with Minnesota after being acquired in a trade from the Buffalo Sabres on Monday. Granlund also had assist for his 14th career multipoint game. The Senators got one back less than 30 seconds later when Mika Zibanejad scored off a turnover at the blue line by Minnesota's Justin Fontaine. Patrick Wiercioch held the zone and passed along the left wall to Bobby Ryan, who sent a bouncing puck over Jordan Leopold's stick to Zibanejad alone in the slot for a snap shot that beat Dubnyk to the blocker side at 8:33. Ryan tied the game at 2-2 at 11:48, scoring on a one-timer off a nice passing play from Hoffman and Erik Karlsson. Ottawa nearly scored the go-ahead goal just prior to Granlund's chance, hitting the post three times in a 20-second span at the end of a power play spent almost entirely in the offensive zone. Two of those posts came off the stick of Zibanejad, who also ripped one off the metal in his shootout attempt. Mikko Koivu and Jason Pominville scored in the first and third rounds of the shootout for Minnesota; Ryan and Kyle Turris did the same for the Senators. Coyle's quick backhand-forehand shot was his first attempt in the shootout this season and snuck under the crossbar, setting up Dubnyk, who flipped the right pad out to stop a wrist shot from Hoffman.
Anaheim @ Phoenix 4-1 - The teams were even early until new Coyote Tye McGinn drew a cross-checking penalty from Anaheim's Nate Thompson a little more than 13 minutes into play. But their first power play since defenseman and power-play quarterback Keith Yandle was traded to the New York Rangers on Sunday went terribly. John Moore, one of the players acquired for Yandle, had the puck taken by Silfverberg at center ice. Silfverberg punched it ahead to Kesler, who fought off Sam Gagner's attempt to take him down and put a wrist shot past Smith from the slot at 13:34. It was Kesler's 17th goal of the season and the 199th of his career, as well as Anaheim's seventh shorthanded goal this season. Cogliano, who hit the post earlier in the period, made the most of another chance. He was in the high slot and got his stick up high to deflect a shot by Simon Despres down and past Smith at 5:56. Phoenix got one goal back less than four minutes later. A nice hold-in at the blue line by new Coyote Klas Dahlbeck allowed Gagner to find Rieder skating up the slot. Rieder kicked the off-target pass to his backhand and found room under Andersen's arm at 9:30 for his ninth goal. Silfverberg scored a spectacular insurance goal 7:21 into the third period. He skated in and fired a wrist shot that beat Mike Smith but hit the crossbar. The puck caromed straight back to Silfverberg, who reached back to stop it with his hand, knocked it to the ice and tucked it into the net with his stick to complete the play. Cogliano scored his second of the night and 12th of the season by hitting the empty net with 2:34 left for the Ducks' second shorthanded goal of the night. He has 11 goals and 24 points in 34 career games against the Coyotes.
Los Angeles @ Edmonton 5-2 - Greene scored nine minutes into the first period to give Los Angeles a 1-0 lead. The Kings defenseman collected the puck at the blue line and his shot found its way past Scrivens. Lewis made it 2-0 at 19:01, converting a pass from Kopitar on a 2-on-1 rush. Oilers defenseman Justin Schultz was caught at the Kings' blue line, allowing Kopitar and Lewis to break out against Oscar Klefbom. Kopitar slid the puck through Klefbom to Lewis, who shot the puck into an open net. Carter made it 3-0 with a shorthanded goal 2:18 into the second period. Carter broke out with Tyler Toffoli on a 2-on-1 rush and tipped a centering feed past Scrivens. Gazdic scored for Edmonton at 13:18 to cut the lead to 3-1, tipping a shot from defenseman Jordan Oesterle by Quick. Clifford restored the Kings' three-goal lead at 16:59. Clifford was able to get to a rebound in front of Scrivens and lift a shot over the Oilers goaltender to make it 4-1. Kopitar scored 26 seconds into the third period to give Los Angeles a 5-1 lead. Kopitar took a long-range shot, which hit Schultz's skate and changed direction before going past Scrivens.
Purcell scored for Edmonton at 5:36, taking a rebound off the end boards and snapping a shot past Quick.
