NHL - Winnipeg Jets @ Washington Capitals 3-4 OT - Thursday, November 03, 2016

Alex Ovechkin scored twice, including on the power play at 3:21 of overtime, to give the Washington Capitals a 4-3 win against the Winnipeg Jets at Verizon Center. Nicklas Backstrom and T.J. Oshie scored for the Capitals (7-2-1), who led 3-0 to start the third period, and Braden Holtby made 24 saves.
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the overtime score was Ovechkin's 91st game-winning goal of his career, tying Wayne Gretzky, Mark Recchi and Mike Gartner for 19th place on the NHL's all-time list. His 18 career regular-season overtime goals rank second in League history behind Jaromir Jagr (19).
Toby Enstrom, Adam Lowry and Marko Dano scored, and Michael Hutchinson made 28 saves for the Jets (4-6-1).
Dano tied the game at 3-3 with 8:49 left in the third period after the Capitals failed to clear their zone. Backstrom gave the Capitals a 1-0 lead at 14:38 of the first period. Ovechkin's shot was blocked, and Backstrom got to the rebound and elevated a no-look backhand behind Hutchinson. It was his first goal since March 28, a 12-game drought. Washington has scored first nine times in 10 games. Oshie made it 2-0 at 1:48 of the second period. He took advantage of Andre Burakovsky's behind-the-net pass and banked a shot off Jets defenseman Ben Chiarot into the net. The goal was Oshie's fourth of the season. Ovechkin scored at 10:04 of the second for a 3-0 lead. He cleaned up a rebound from defenseman John Carlson's slap shot in front for his fifth goal of the season.
Enstrom made it 3-1 with his shorthanded goal at 2:11 of the third period. He scored into an open net after Holtby collided with Carlson as he left the net for a poke check. It was the first goal for Enstrom in 22 games, dating to Feb. 25.
Lowry scored at 5:23 of the third to make it 3-2 off a setup from defenseman Dustin Byfuglien.
* Dano spent the first part of the season with Manitoba in the American Hockey League and made his NHL season debut. His first goal of the season led to overtime.
Jets forwards Mathieu Perreault and Joel Armia were injured in the third period. Maurice didn't have an update on either after the game.
"We'll know tomorrow. We're going to have to make a decision here about bringing some people in." Maurice said.
Marko Dano: "I was trying to play just the best game I could. We were as a fourth line just going there and trying to make things happen. I think we got the job done. We played well as a line. We got a couple guys down injured, so coach was mixing it up a little bit. I got lucky on that one. I was trying to just go to the net and the guys did a good job behind the net and the puck came to me, so I just tried to whip it upstairs and luckily it went in. But I would take the two points for the team [instead]."
