NHL Results - Fri, Feb 13, 2015

Philadelphia @ Columbus 3-4 OT - Scott Hartnell, in his 1,001st NHL game, assisted on the late tying goal by Cam Atkinson, and Artem Anisimov scored with 2:43 remaining in overtime for a 4-3 win against the Flyers. The Blue Jackets trailed 3-1 after Wayne Simmonds scored his second goal of the game at 5:04 of third period. Jared Boll the scored his first goal in 64 games at 8:38 before Atkinson made it 3-3 with 4:40 left in regulation. In overtime, Nick Foligno sent the puck from the right corner to the blueline to James Wisniewski, whose shot was saved by Flyers goalie Ray Emery. Anisimov was at the crease to gather the rebound on his backhand before going to the forehand for his third goal of the season. Columbus appeared headed for a second straight defeat before Boll tipped a centering pass from Corey Tropp after linemate Mark Letestu worked the puck free along the boards. Atkinson tied the game when Brandon Dubinsky's shot was redirected toward Emery by Hartnell and Atkinson put in the rebound.
New Jersey @ Chicago 1-3 - Marian Hossa led the Blackhawks to a 3-1 comeback win against New Jersey, and then was asked if he had ever been on as good of a scoring run as he is right now. Hossa responded by saying maybe in Portland when he was playing in juniors. If so, that would have been nearly two decades ago for the Portland WinterHawks of the Canadian Hockey Leagues's Western Hockey League. That's how well things have gone for Hossa in the past six days. After struggling to score goals through the season's first 52 games, he has seven goals in the past four games, two each in three games before defeating the Devils. Hossa's goal Friday tied the game 1-1 at 1:27 of the third on a power play. Less than three minutes later, his rush attempt led to a goal off the rebound by captain Jonathan Toews that made it 2-1 at 4:10, putting the Blackhawks ahead for good. Kris Versteeg scored into an empty net at 19:16. Schneider made a pad save against a Hossa rush at 1:08 of the first period and Blackhawks rookie forward Ryan Hartman, from the Chicago suburb of West Dundee, Ill., got the crowd fired up on his first NHL shift with a big hit on Dainius Zubrus a few seconds after going over the boards that sent Zubrus’ helmet flying and held the puck in the offensive zone. Peter Harrold scored at 15:30 of the first for his second goal of the season and first in 23 games. Harrold set up at the right point and took a shot off a pass from behind the net by center Scott Gomez. The puck hit Crawford's pad and skipped off the right post into the net. Toews hit the post with a shot 44 seconds earlier during a power play. Neither team scored in the second, but Chicago had a couple of power plays and forced Schneider to make saves to preserve New Jersey's lead. The second Blackhawks power play, called at 19:56 on Michael Ryder for interference, led to Hossa’s game-tying goal to start the third.
Boston @ Vancouver 2-5 - Shawn Matthias scored twice in the first five minutes and added his third goal 6:05 into the third period to lead the Canucks to a 5-2 win. Matthias finished off his hat trick 26 seconds after Chris Kelly had pulled the Bruins within a goal. Dennis Seidenberg gave the puck away to Zack Kassian inside the left circle, and Kassian passed across to Matthias. He was robbed by the left pad of Tuukka Rask on a one-timer, only to have the rebound bounce off Seidenberg and over Rask. Jannik Hansen added an empty-net goal with two minutes left. Patrice Bergeron scored a first-period goal and Rask made 20 saves for the Bruins. It was the fourth game between the teams since Boston won Game 7 of the 2011 Stanley Cup Final in Vancouver. The Canucks carried the play early and opened the scoring on a 2-on-1 just 1:41 in. Kassian led a rush into the Boston zone after Derek Dorsett won a puck battle in the neutral zone. Kassian feathered a perfect pass through the air to Matthias charging to the backdoor for a quick chip over the right pad of a sprawling Rask. Matthias doubled the lead with his 12th goal of the season at 5:03 after a turnover by Dougie Hamilton. Dropped from the top pairing with Zdeno Chara to a third pairing, Hamilton threw the puck across the ice from the side of his net, right to Matthias, who skated in alone, outwaited a charging Rask while cutting across the slot and shot the puck into an empty net from the other side. Bergeron pulled Boston within one goal midway through the first period, but the Bruins spent a lot of energy trying to come back after making it so easy for the Canucks to take the lead. Vancouver went ahead 3-1 when Vrbata converted a pretty play midway through the period. Chris Higgins chased down a dump-in behind the Boston net and made a between-the-legs backhand pass to Vrbata cutting into the slot alone; Vrbata pulled the puck to his backhand around Rask before lifting his 21st goal of the season over the goalie's outstretched stick. The goal extended Vrbata's point streak to eight games. Kelly briefly pulled the Bruins within a goal after a turnover gave him the puck in the high slot and his wrist shot deflected off the block attempt of Ryan Stanton and over Miller's blocker. Matthias, who had six career two-goal games, ended any thoughts of a Boston comeback by completing his hat trick on the next shift.
