NHL Results - Tue, Feb 03, 2015

Ottawa @ New Jersey 1-2 - Mike Cammalleri gave the Devils their first lead when he controlled a pass from Jaromir Jagr at the right hash mark before scoring his team-leading 17th goal of the season into the top left corner past Ottawa goalie Robin Lehner. The assist by Jagr gave him 1,067 for his career, moving him within 12 of Oates (1,079) for sixth on the all-time list. He also has 1,782 points and trails Ron Francis (1,798 points) by 16 points for fourth on the all-time list. The Senators took a 1-0 lead midway through the second period when Curtis Lazar stole the puck at center ice, broke in 1-on-1 against Schneider and pushed a backhand attempt into the right corner at 10:33. The goal came more than three minutes after Jacob Josefson was denied off a 2-on-1 with Tuomo Ruutu by a sprawling Lehner at the right post. Henrique scored his first goal in 13 games 1:34 after Lazar's goal on a one-timer from the bottom of the left circle over the far shoulder of a surprised Lehner. Henrique almost gave the Devils their first lead at 15:54 when he stole a pass attempt by Karlsson but was stopped on a breakaway by Lehner. Schneider came up big with 47 seconds remaining in the second period when he kicked away a snap shot attempt by Turris to keep the game tied at 1-1.

Florida @ NY Islanders 4-2 - Jimmy Hayes broke a tie when he scored his second goal of the game 2:10 into the third period. Hayes slammed home the rebound of Nick Bjugstad's left-point slap shot eight seconds after New York's Cal Clutterbuck was called for high sticking for his 15th goal of the season to give the Panthers a 3-2 lead. Brandon Pirri hit the empty net with 22.1 seconds remaining. The Islanders needed all of 1:44 to get the jump on the Panthers. John Tavares carried over the blue line and fed Josh Bailey coming down left wing on a 3-on-2 rush. Bailey pulled up and found Lee all alone near the right post for an easy put-away into a half-empty net and a 1-0 lead. But the goal appeared to invigorate the Panthers, who got even at 4:48 when Hayes went to the front of the net and deflected Bjugstad's hard pass from the left corner past Halak. Neither team managed much offense during the first half of the second period until Gudbranson put Florida ahead at 10:15. The defenseman took a pass from Tomas Fleischmann in the neutral zone, fought off Islanders forward Casey Cizikas as he moved into the right circle and beat Halak to the short side with a backhand shot for his third of the season and a 2-1 lead. Halak kept the deficit at one goal when he robbed Derek MacKenzie on a shorthanded breakaway at 12:21. The Islanders made Halak's effort pay off 24 seconds later when Lee scored his second of the game and 15th of the season by deflecting Travis Hamonic's point shot past Montoya for a power-play goal to tie the game 2-2. But the Panthers dominated the third period and left for South Florida with a much-needed victory.

Los Angeles @ Washington 0-4 - Quick kept the game scoreless until 17:11 of the first period when Brouwer scored his 14th goal of the season. He slipped into a soft spot in the slot and beat Quick with a wrist shot, set up by Evgeny Kuznetsov's backhand pass from below the goal line. The second period played out similarly to the first, with Los Angeles struggling to gain traction offensively. The Kings' best scoring chance came with 4:19 remaining on a 2-on-1 rush involving Dwight King and Jeff Carter, but Holtby saved Carter's wrist shot with his glove. Brouwer scored again at 16:36 of the second, this time on the power play when he deflected Green's point shot past Quick. Los Angeles turnovers created consecutive Washington third-period goals within 59 seconds. Backstrom completed a tic-tac-toe sequence with a wrist shot into an open net at 5:50 after pressuring Quick and Robyn Regehr behind the net. Fehr drove hard toward Quick and roofed a backhand over him at 6:49.

Phoenix @ Columbus 4-1 - The Coyotes’ fourth line got the first goal with Lessio jamming in a rebound at the right of the net, barely beating teammate Brendan Shinnimin to the puck after B.J. Crombeen had the initial shot. The Blue Jackets were able to tie the score 40 seconds into the second period on a power-play goal by James Wisniewski. After his sixth goal of the season, he went to the penalty box 1:16 later and the Coyotes made the Blue Jackets pay. Coyotes defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored on a wrist shot from the top of the right circle with help from a Doan screen at 2:32. It was his 15th goal, which leads NHL defensemen and ties his career best set in 80 games last season. Shane Doan made it 3-1 at 5:19 after backhanding a rebound through the pads of rookie goalie Anton Forsberg, who made 25 saves in his third NHL start. Mike Smith preserved the lead the rest of the way, making 30 saves. Coyotes forward Tobias Rieder capped the scoring on an empty-net goal with 2:11 left in the third period.
Buffalo @ Montreal 3-2 - Stafford scored at 5:21 of the first period to end Carey Price's shutout streak at 158:24. Moulson ended a 16-game goal drought at 14:53 to make it 2-1. Gionta increased the lead to 3-1 with an unassisted goal with 41 seconds left in the first. Moulson took a back pass from Nikita Zadorov and spun around into the slot to beat Price with a shot between his legs for his eighth goal, first since Dec. 15. Gionta got credit for his fifth goal at 19:19 when his centering pass went in off Montreal defenseman Nathan Beaulieu's skate. Desharnais got Montreal within 3-2 at 4:20 of the third period when the puck went in off his skate while he battled former teammate Josh Gorges for position on the edge of the crease. A video review upheld the on-ice ruling. Prust knocked down Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers and off the puck in the neutral zone and passed to Desharnais to begin the play that led to Prust's fourth goal. Desharnais fed a return pass past Zadorov to Prust, who snapped a shot past Enroth from the inside edge of the right faceoff circle at 8:15 to tie it at 1-1.

Toronto @ Nashville 3-4 - Colin Wilson's goal at 11:18 of the third period gave the Predators a 4-3 win, setting a franchise record of nine consecutive home wins. Wilson drove to the net and scored on the rebound in the crease past Toronto goaltender Jonathan Bernier. Wilson's 16 goals and 35 points each tie career highs. Nashville was trailing in the third period after surrendering two goals in 37 seconds. Coach Peter Laviolette called his timeout, and Nashville was able to take control of the game. Defenseman Seth Jones gave the Predators a 1-0 lead at 11:52 of the first period on a shorthanded goal. Jones forced a turnover at center ice and was able to skate past the Toronto defense and beat Bernier on a breakaway. Weber gave Nashville a 2-0 lead at 15:31 of the first period on a slap shot on the power play, his 11th. The defenseman took the shot from above the right faceoff circle and beat Bernier over the glove side.
Toronto forward Daniel Winnik scored to make it 2-1 at 7:49 of the second period on a one-timer from the slot. Winnik received a pass from Mike Santorelli and beat Hutton over the shoulder. Nazem Kadri tied the game 2-2 at 2:19 of the third period. David Booth had a breakaway attempt stopped by Hutton, but Kadri was able to corral the rebound and place it past Hutton. Santorelli gave the Maple Leafs a 3-2 lead at 2:56 of the third period on a wrist shot that beat Hutton on the blocker side. He showed patience with the puck and was able to create a shooting lane in the slot that fooled Hutton. Mike Fisher tied the game 3-3 at 6:55 of the third period on a point-blank shot that beat Bernier. Fisher took a pass from Wilson and scored his fourth goal in the past four games; he also had two assists. Goaltender James Reimer entered the game for Toronto with 1:08 remaining in the second period and stopped all four shots he faced in 5:24 of action. Bernier was cut after making a save against Matt Cullen on a breakaway and left the game but returned with 15:44 remaining in the third period. Hutton made a spectacular save late in the third period to preserve the lead. Morgan Rielly took a shot which hit Winnik in front of the net and bounced into the crease behind Hutton, who turned around and managed to keep the puck out of the net by swatting at it with his stick.

Chicago @ Minnesota 0-3 - Wild captain Mikko Koivu scored a goal and assisted on another in the first 10 minutes. Koivu's goal at 7:40 came off a scramble in front after Crawford was unable to corral the puck for a whistle. It caromed to Koivu in the slot, where he pounded in a backhand from the top of the crease. Minutes later, Marco Scandella's outlet pass sprung Jason Zucker on a breakaway. Zucker faked to his forehand before lifting a backhand under the crossbar at 10:00. Zucker had a chance for his second on another breakaway chance in the second period, but Crawford was able to make a pad save, also sprawling to stop Scandella's rebound bid. Minnesota scored their third goal at 14:12 of the second period when Mikael Granlund's one-timer shot from the slot eluded Crawford following a nice pass from Zach Parise in the right corner.

Winnipeg @ Vancouver 2-3 OT - Luca Sibsa finished off a 2-on-1 rush with Radim Vrbata 36 seconds into overtime and beat a sprawling Ondrej Pavelec to lead the Canucks to a 3-2 comeback win. Bryan Little scored the go-ahead goal on a power play 2:13 into the third period, but Vancouver's fourth line tied it with 7:28 left when Ronalds Kenins, who was in the penalty box for holding on Little's goal, scored his second goal in his third NHL game. Canucks goalie Eddie Lack robbed Blake Wheeler with a glove save on a nice three-way passing play off a 3-on-2 rush, and after a faceoff in the Canucks end, Kenins beat Pavelec short-side under the blocker from below the left faceoff dot at the other end 19 second later. It was the first game this season between the Canucks and Jets, who came in separated by three points in the two wild-card spots, and it featured lots of big hits and post-whistle confrontations. There was breaking news before the game; Jets forward Evander Kane, who is from Vancouver and played his junior hockey locally, was a late scratch. The 23-year-old left wing has 10 goals and 22 points in 37 games, but hasn't scored a point and is minus-7 in his past three. Wheeler opened the scoring midway through the first period for the Jets, chipping the puck around Dan Hamhuis off the boards for a breakaway and put a shot past Lack under the glove. Lack kept it close with a right-pad save off a Dustin Byfuglien one-timer from the slot. Burrows, who moved back to the top line with Daniel and Henrik Sedin, tied it less than three minutes later. After Alexander Edler made a nice play at the blue line to hold the zone, Henrik Sedin quickly moved the puck across to Daniel Sedin in the slot for a 2-on-1 down low. Daniel Sedin passed to Burrows at the bottom of the left faceoff circle and he dropped to one knee to one-time a shot past Pavelec's out-stretched glove. Lack stopped Wheeler on another breakaway late in the first period, but got a break when an apparent go-ahead goal for the Jets was called back for incidental contact with the goaltender with 3:17 left in the second. Jacob Trouba went end-to-end on a brilliant rush from behind his own net before being stopped by Lack in tight. Trouba tried to jump over Lack but clipped his right pad as he went through the crease, spinning the goalie while Adam Lowry put the rebound into an empty net. Initially called a goal despite some animated protests from Lack, the call was overturned after a brief discussion among the officials near center ice. Lack got another break when Michael Frolik hit the post on a partial shorthanded breakaway in the final minute of the second period, but the break literally went the other way early in the third. With the Jets on an early power play, Edler's stick broke on an easy clearing attempt and the puck went right to Ladd for a 2-on-1 from the inside the faceoff circles. Ladd passed cross-ice to Little, who one-timed his 20th goal of the season past Lack's blocker.

Carolina @ Anaheim 4-5 OT - Ryan Getzlaf scored 45 seconds into overtime. Getzlaf one-timed Corey Perry's pass from the left side to complete a comeback after Anaheim trailed 4-2 in the third period. Perry's second goal of the game tied it 4-4. He chipped in the puck in a goal-mouth scramble at 15:52. Devante Smith-Pelly brought the Ducks to 4-3 when he redirected Jakob Silfverberg's shot at 9:31. Carolina took a 4-2 lead on a penalty-shot goal by Brad Malone and Jordan Staal's second goal this season in a 69-second span of the third. Malone was given a penalty shot when he was defended by Cam Fowler on a partial breakaway at 4:01, and he put a wrist shot past Andersen. Jordan Staal finished Eric Staal's rebound at 5:10. Ryan Kesler made a backhanded redirect of Hampus Lindholm's point shot on the power play to tie it 2-2 at 14:21 of the second period. It swung the game back to Anaheim after sloppiness in its end gave Carolina a 2-1 lead on goals by Jay McClement and Alexander Semin.
Perry clinched his seventh 20-goal season when he backhanded his own rebound 37 seconds into the second. Jordan Staal committed a giveaway to Getzlaf, who fed Perry on the right side.
