NHL Results - Tue, Feb 10, 2015

Ottawa @ Buffalo 2-1 - Milan Michalek scored with 7:45 left in the third period to give the Senators a 2-1 win. A key moment in the second came when Mike Weber had a goal disallowed with 3:52 left when officials ruled Marcus Foligno interfered with Lehner. Foligno jostled for position with Marc Methot in front of the net. Methot attempted to shove Foligno out of the way for Lehner to see, but in the process interfered with Lehner. Michalek’s game-winning goal came when he put a rebound of a shot by Patrick Wiercioch past Sabres goalie Jhonas Enroth, who made 24 saves.  Tyler Myers made it 1-1 with a power-play goal 5:08 into the third period. With Senators defenseman Eric Gryba in the box for elbowing, Myers took a slap shot from inside the blue line that got past Lehner. Zemgus Girgensons screened Lehner and helped Myers score his fourth goal. Ottawa captain Erik Karlsson gave the Senators a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal with 7:42 left in the first period. Karlsson received a pass from Turris and took a slap shot from outside the faceoff circle that deflected off the stick of Girgensons and past Enroth for his 13th goal.

Edmonton @ NY Islanders 2-3 - Casey Cizikas scored the tiebreaking goal with 4:37 remaining. The Oilers dominated play for most of the third period but were unable to get the go-ahead goal past Jaroslav Halak. On one of the Islanders' rare forays into the Edmonton zone, McDonald dove and laid out on his stomach to poke the puck past the defense to Cizikas, who was all alone in the slot and one-timed a shot past Viktor Fasth for his fifth goal of the season, breaking a 2-2 tie. After the Islanders carried the play for the first few minutes, the Oilers, owners of the League's third-worst power play, victimized the NHL's bottom-ranked penalty-killing unit to take a 1-0 lead. With Anders Lee off for hooking, Hamilton, one of two injury call-ups made by the Oilers earlier in the day after Taylor Hall and Benoit Poulio were placed on injured reserve, deflected Nail Yakupov's shot through Halak's legs at 10:17. Fasth stopped Matt Martin's wide-open shot from 10 feet but was defenseless when the rebound came right to McDonald for a chip into a half-empty net. New York forced Fasth into a number of excellent saves in the first half of the second period, and finally grabbed the lead at 11:27. Tavares won an offensive-zone faceoff, and Lee got the puck to the left point, where Thomas Hickey took a harmless-looking wrist shot. But Bailey got a piece of it and deflected the puck high into the net for his ninth of the season. The Oilers got even at 16:34 with another power-play goal. Lander was all alone in the slot to send a passout from Jordan Eberle high into the net for his second goal of the season. It came with Bailey in the penalty box for an extra two minutes after an altercation with Edmonton's Matt Hendricks.
Halak preserved the tie 2:10 into the third period when he hugged the left post and denied a stuff try by Hamilton, who was all alone in the slot. The Islanders got a break 4 ½ minutes later when Eberle picked up a rebound but hit the post to Halak's left with the goaltender out of position. The Oilers had the first eight shots on goal in the third period, before Fasth robbed Lee on a deflection at 9:18, and they controlled play for minutes at a time.

NY Rangers @ Toronto 5-4 - Zuccarello broke a 4-4 tie with 5:56 remaining in the third period on a wrist shot through a crowd from the slot. Zuccarello, who played on a line with Rick Nash, who is tied for the NHL lead with 33 goals, and Derick Brassard, finished with five shots on goal. He has been asked by the Rangers coaching staff to shoot the puck more often but said it isn't easy because he is a pass-first player. The Rangers took a 2-0 first-period lead on goals by Dan Boyle with a quick shot from the slot at 2:57, and Zuccarello's first at 10:37 on a setup by Nash, who had three assists. Morgan Rielly made it 2-1 at 15:39 on a power play. He skated into the slot and beat New York goalie Cam Talbot with a high wrist shot. New York led 3-1 at 1:42 of the second period when Kevin Hayes slammed a shot past Toronto goalie James Reimer from the side of the goal, but 26 seconds later Stephane Robidas struck with a long floater from the left point that seemed to fool Talbot. New York's Dominic Moore scored his fifth goal of the season at 10:33 with Brassard off for tripping. Moore corralled the puck in the Toronto zone, turned and fired a long shot that handcuffed Reimer. It was Moore's second shorthanded goal of the season.
The Maple Leafs scored two goals early in the third period to make it 4-4. Rielly, who scored on an end-to-end rush against Edmonton, scored at 20 seconds when he cruised into the slot from the left point and again beat Talbot with a high shot. Left wing Daniel Winnik scored at 6:46 when his shot from behind the Rangers net hit Ryan McDonagh and bounced past Talbot.

Philadelphia @ Montreal 1-2 OT - Trailing after allowing a goal 51 seconds into the game, Montreal drew even on Tomas Plekanec's goal with 7:22 left in the third, and David Desharnais scored with 1:33 left in overtime to give the Canadiens a 2-1 win. Plekanec drifted in from the left point while linemates Brendan Gallagher and Alex Galchenyuk jammed away at the puck in the goalmouth. When the puck came free, Plekanec put a backhand past sprawled Wayne Simmonds and Emery to even it at 1-1. Price stopped Flyers captain Claude Giroux on a breakaway during a delayed penalty call against Montreal in the first after Giroux deked and tried to tuck the puck under his left pad. Price sprawled to his left to glove Jakub Voracek's shot on a 2-on-1 pass from Giroux at 1:33 of the second. Price blocked Sean Couturier's shot on a breakaway moments later.

Anaheim @ Florida 2-6 - Not even scoring a fluky goal from center ice could prevent the Ducks from a second lopsided loss to the Panthers. Roberto Luongo made 28 saves, but let forward Tim Jackman's bouncing backhand shot from just inside center ice get past him in the second period. The Panthers then led 5-1. Ilya Bryzgalov started for Anaheim but was pulled 20 seconds after Ekblad’s goal made it 3-0 at 5:37 of the second period. Florida matched their season high with three power-play goals, including two in the first period that produced a 2-0 lead. Kulikov opened the scoring at 5:31 with a one-timer from the right point that beat Bryzgalov high to the blocker side. Bjugstad, who had two goals and two assists in the Nov. 16 game at Anaheim, scored toward the end of a two-man advantage when his shot from the left circle went between Bryzgalov's legs. The Panthers took advantage of defensive breakdowns to score three times in the second period. Ekblad scored off a 2-on-1 when he took Huberdeau's pass and shot from the slot high to the blocker side. It was the ninth goal of the season for Ekblad, the first pick in the 2014 NHL Draft, who came in leading defensemen with 30 points. After Palmieri made it 3-1 at 7:23 on a 5-on-3 advantage, Barkov restored the three-goal lead on a breakaway.
Bolland scored 22 seconds later after putting home a rebound of a Tomas Fleischmann shot on a 2-on-1 to make it a 5-1 game. The assist was Fleischmann’s 300th NHL point. Hayes scored a power-play goal at 12:44 of the third period.

Tampa Bay @ Nashville 2-3 OT - Seth Jones gave Nashville a 1-0 lead at 8:31 of the second period on a wrist shot from the faceoff circle. The goal was Jones' sixth of the season, third in his past five games. Taylor Beck gave the Predators a 2-0 lead at 12:47 of the second period on a rebound from the crease. Paul Gaustad took a shot from the point that hit the post, and Beck was able to score past Vasilevskiy. Brett Connolly made it 2-1 at 1:20 of the third period and became the 10th Tampa Bay player with at least 10 goals. Valtteri Filppula took a shot that hit the post and went to Connolly, who was able to put it past Rinne. Nikita Kucherov tied the game 2-2 at 7:50 of the third period when he swatted the puck out of midair past Rinne. Kucherov took a pass from Ondrej Palat, tipped it in the air with his stick and scored his 21st goal of the season. James Neal scored with 32.4 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Predators a 3-2 win against the Lightning. Neal took a pass from Roman Josi, got a breakaway and was able to sneak the puck past Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy.

Minnesota @ Winnipeg 1-2 OT - Dustin Byfuglien's goal off a 2-on-1 rush with 59.3 seconds remaining in overtime helped the Jets to a 2-1 win and end the Wild's six-game winning streak. Byfuglien picked off Jared Spurgeon's pass inside the Winnipeg zone before speeding down the right boards and snapping a shot over Dubnyk's right shoulder for his 14th goal. The Jets finally solved Dubnyk 7:53 into the third period 24 seconds after killing off a Wild power play. Toby Enstrom's low shot from the left point slipped through Byfuglien's screen in front. Jason Pominville's 11th goal tied the game at 10:22 of the third period on a shot from the slot after Winnipeg's fourth line was pinned inside its zone. Pominville has two goals and five assists against the Jets this season.
