Edmonton @ Ottawa 2-7 - Senators Dirty Dog Chris Neil fractured his thumb in a fight with Edmonton’s Luke Gazdic in the second period and will be out indefinitely. The injury likely ends speculation Neil could be traded by NHL Trade Deadline on March 2. Cody Ceci took a cross-ice pass from Erik Condra 41 seconds into the period and put a shot past Fasth to the short side to make it 2-1. Sixteen seconds later, Turris scored his 12th goal when his shot from the right wing hit Fasth’s right shoulder and bounced into the net to give Ottawa a 3-1 lead. Mark Fayne scored his second goal to cut the Ottawa lead to 3-2 at 3:06 when his shot from the point found the net behind Lehner’s glove hand. Fayne’s goal was an interesting one with three defensemen in on the score. Oilers captain Andrew Ference passed the puck to Jeff Petry and Ference was replaced on the ice by Fayne. Petry carried the puck up the right wing and passed it to Fayne for the goal. The loose defensive play at both ends continued and Michalek scored his second of the game on a 2-on-1, 38 seconds after Fayne’s goal. Michalek’s one-timer off a pass by Turris found the upper part of the net on Bachman’s stick side. Alex Chiasson scored his second goal in 21 games at 18:44 of the second on a good setup by Condra from behind the net. Condra spun to beat Martin Marincin and centered the puck to Chiasson in the slot. Chiasson’s shot hit the stick of Rob Klinkhammer and popped into the air and into the net to make it 5-2. Michalek opened the scoring on the power play at 7:18 of the first period jumping on a big rebound of a shot by Mike Hoffman. Hoffman scored his Senators-leading 19th goal at 14:07 of the third when he finished off a nice three-way passing play from Bobby Ryan and Mika Zibanejad. Hoffman is tied with Filip Forsberg of the Nashville Predators for the NHL rookie lead in goals. David Legwand scored his eighth goal at 15:59 of the third period to make it 7-2. The Oilers tied the game 1-1 at 15:17 of the first period when forward Derek Roy finished off a 2-on-1 with a shot over Leher’s glove.

Toronto @ Montreal 1-2 SO - P.K. Subban had an assist and three shots in a career-high 35:21 of ice time, the most in an NHL game this season. Brendan Gallagher scored a power-play goal in the first period for Montreal. Winnik scored his sixth goal to put the Maple Leafs ahead 1-0 at 11:19 of the first period. Their first first-period lead in seven games lasted 41 seconds until Gallagher scored his second power-play goal, tapping a puck in the crease. The Canadiens lost two defensemen in the second period, the result of a hit on Gonchar by Toronto forward David Clarkson late in the first. Gonchar left the game with an upper-body injury after he fell headfirst into the end boards when he was hit by Clarkson behind the Montreal net. Clarkson was given a major for inference and a game misconduct at 18:01. He also got a major for fighting with Canadiens defenseman Nathan Beaulieu, who was given an instigating minor, fighting major and a misconduct. Clarkson had 27 penalty minutes in the first period, including a minor for unsportsmanlike conduct and a major for fighting Brandon Prust at 3:35.

Winnipeg @ Detroit 5-4 SO - Drew Stafford scored the only goal in a four-round shootout and had a goal in regulation, and Myers had two assists and played a strong game on defense. Stafford and Myers were acquired earlier in the week in a trade with the Buffalo Sabres. This was their second game with the Jets. Pavel Datsyuk tied it at 4-4 by beating Hutchinson with a wrist shot from the slot with 6:33 remaining in regulation. Ladd's power-play goal 4:38 into the third period gave Winnipeg a 4-3 lead. He put a wrist shot from the inside top of the left circle past Howard for his 19th goal. The Jets scored twice in a span of 2:44 in the second period to tie the game 3-3. Wheeler put the rebound of Myers' shot into an open net from the crease at 7:04 to make it 3-2. It was Wheeler's 16th goal. Myers jumped into the play from his defensive position and cut in off right wing to get off his shot. Stafford's first goal for Winnipeg tied it at 9:48. It appeared that Howard had Stafford's backhand shot from the bottom of the right circle. But the puck somehow slipped through and trickled into the net. It was the 10th goal of the season for Stafford. The Red Wings took the lead earlier in the middle period with two goals in 3:35. Helm's power-play goal at the two-minute mark made it 2-1. He backhanded a loose puck past Hutchinson for his 12th of the season. Datsyuk was credited with his 16th goal at 5:55 when Helm's shot from the right circle hit his shoulder and went past Hutchinson. It was Datsyuk's first goal in 10 games. Thorburn opened the scoring 2:36 into the game when he redirected Trouba's shot from the left point past Howard for his second goal of the season. It was the first shot Howard saw in his first start after missing 11 games with a partially torn groin muscle. Kronwall tied it with a 5-on-3 power-play goal with 3:06 left in the period. He beat Hutchinson with a one-timer from the high slot off a pass from Henrik Zetterberg. It was Kronwall's sixth goal and came with Wheeler and Ladd serving penalties taken at 15:16; Wheeler was called for boarding and Ladd for holding.

Columbus @ NY Islanders 3-6 - The Islanders needed 67 seconds to get on the scoreboard when Bailey scored his 10th goal of the season. Tavares intercepted Jack Johnson's attempt to send the puck around the end boards and quickly sent it towards the front of the net where it went off Lee's skate before Bailey collected it and put a wrist shot past Blue Jackets goalie Anton Forsberg. Bailey scored his second of the game at 8:21 of the first, courtesy of a terrific setup by Tavares. The Islanders captain controlled the puck behind the net and outmuscled Johnson before passing to Bailey at the bottom of the right circle, where he one-timed it past Forsberg from a sharp angle to make it 2-0. The Blue Jackets cut the deficit in half with 4:15 remaining in the first when Dubinsky scored his fifth goal of the season. With the teams at even strength, Dubinsky took a pass from Matt Calvert and skated down the left wing on a 2-on-1 with Atkinson. Dubinsky elected to shoot and he beat Islanders goalie Jaroslav Halak with a wrist shot from the circle to make it 2-1. Atkinson tied it with an unassisted goal at 19:28 of the first when Brian Strait whiffed on a clearing attempt near the Islanders' blue line. Atkinson collected the puck, skated in alone and sent a wrist shot past Halak to make it 2-2. It was Atkinson's 13th goal of the season and fourth in the past five games. New York regained the lead when Strome scored his 10th of the season at 7:02 of the second period. Kevin Connauton turned the puck over in the slot and Lubomir Visnovsky quickly let go a slap shot that Forsberg denied with his pad. But Strome was there to get the rebound and he roofed a wrist shot over Forsberg to give the Islanders a 3-2 lead. But the Blue Jackets came up with another goal in the final minute of a period, this time by Foligno. Moments after a penalty against Casey Cizikas expired, Foligno redirected a cross-ice feed from Scott Hartnell past Halak to make it 3-3. It was Foligno's 22nd goal of the season.
Nielsen put the Islanders back in front 1:54 into the third period with his 10th goal of the season. Nielsen, who hadn't scored since Jan. 13, received Thomas Hickey's feed from the left circle and swatted it past Forsberg to give New York a 4-3 lead. The Islanders restored the two-goal edge on Tavares' 25th goal of the season at 7:08 of the third. Tavares, who had been buzzing most of the game, fought off a defender in the slot, turned and ripped a wrist shot past Forsberg to make it 5-3. Tavares put the game away with his second goal of the game at 11:15 when he took a pass from Bailey and beat Forsberg with a wrist shot to give the Islanders a 6-3 lead.

New Jersey @ Nashville 1-3 - Colin Wilson scored the game-winning goal with 3:27 remaining. He took the puck from Victor Bartley on a tic-tac-toe play and scored his 18th goal of the season. Smith gave the Predators a 3-1 lead with 2:21 remaining in the third period on a wraparound. He worked to retrieve the puck behind the net and was able to put it past Devils goaltender Cory Schneider for his 15th of the season. Laviolette shuffled all four lines to add more balance. Matt Cullen gave Nashville a 1-0 lead at 8:49 of the first period on a wrist shot from point-blank range. Cullen took a pass from Smith behind the New Jersey net and put it past Schneider. The goal was Cullen's fifth of the season and his first in 19 games. Steve Bernier tied the game 1-1 at 17:37 of the second period on the power play. Bernier was able to swat a rebound past Rinne for his 10th of the season. Mattias Ekholm returned to the lineup after missing two games with an upper-body injury. He was a plus-2 in 17:15 of ice time.

Carolina @ Minnesota 3-6 - The Wild got contributions from three former University of Minnesota players: Thomas Vanek, Jordan Schroeder and Erik Haula scored four of their goals. Vanek scored the first two, his first multigoal game with the Wild. He also had the primary assist on Prosser's goal early in the second period for his second three-point game this season. The Wild went ahead 1:15 into the game, taking advantage of a Hurricanes turnover in their end. Justin Fontaine's forecheck forced the puck to Mikael Granlund near the right faceoff dot, where he passed to Vanek, who hit a wide-open net at the left hash. Vanek crashed the net and tapped in a pass from Fontaine at the back door to make it 2-0 at 8:17. Schroeder made it 3-0 with a snap shot from the right dot, firing it under goalie Anton Khudobin's arm at 15:31. The 28th-place Hurricanes made it 3-1 when they won a faceoff in the Wild zone with 15 seconds left and got the puck to the net, where Andrej Nestrasil finished a rebound with 10.3 seconds remaining. Carolina outshot Minnesota 13-4 in the second period, and other than Prosser's goal, which deflected off the stick of Justin Faulk at 2:16, much of the play was in the Hurricanes offensive zone. A turnover by Jonas Brodin found the stick of Carolina defenseman Michal Jordan. He passed to Jordan Staal at the left circle, giving the Hurricanes numbers in front, and Staal's pass across the slot to Jeff Skinner was one-timed past Dubnyk at 5:02. Elias Lindholm deflected Faulk's point shot in front at 6:32 to make it 4-3. The low-scoring, tight-checking game Wild coach Mike Yeo predicted following the morning skate had turned into a shootout. The Wild were able to score early in the third period to help relieve the pressure when a pass by Kyle Brodziak deflected in off the skate of Haula at 3:15. Zach Parise scored an empty-net goal with 1:43 left.

NY Rangers @ Phoenix 5-1 - Cam Talbot made 34 saves and denied Tobias Rieder on a penalty shot with 13:40 left. The Rangers made the most of the chance. Nash pounced on a bouncing puck that eluded Keith Yandle, skated into the right circle and beat Smith to the short side with a snap shot from the dot that pinged off the post and into the net 79 seconds into the third period. The Coyotes had a chance to tie it when Rieder was taken down by New York's Matt Hunwick on a partial breakaway. But Talbot closed the pads on Rieder's backhander to keep the Rangers ahead. Instead, the Rangers took control of the game. Rookie Kevin Hayes made it 3-1 with an unassisted shorthanded goal at 11:54 and Marc Staal and ex-Coyote Lee Stempniak scored insurance goals for New York, which is 6-1-1 in its past eight games. Chris Kreider scored in the first minute of the second period for the Rangers and Antoine Vermette matched him for the Coyotes. After a scoreless first period, the Rangers needed all of 55 seconds of the second to grab a lead. Kreider took a Derek Stephan pass on the wing at center ice, flew past a flat-footed Michael Stone, cut across the crease and dumped a backhander past Smith at the far post. Kreider's 13th of the season gave the Rangers the first goal for the 34th time in 54 games this season. New York has scored first in 18 of its past 24 games. The Coyotes tied the game at 6:33. Lucas Lessio whiffed on a free puck in the crease, but he ran down the puck and got it to Oliver Ekman-Larsson for a shot that Talbot saved. However, Vermette went to his knees to get inside position on New York's Tanner Glass and banged home the rebound. Vermette's 12th goal was his third in the past 21 games. The goalies took over for the rest of the period. Smith stoned Kreider on another backhand chance, denied Nash in the slot and stopped Miller from in tight. Talbot made the save of the period in the final minute, denying Rieder with a quick-reaction stop. After Nash put the Rangers up and Talbot stopped the penalty shot, the Coyotes had another chance to tie with a power play. But Oliver-Ekman Larsson had his stick snap on a one-timer and Hayes raced the length of the ice before beating Smith to extend his points streak to five games.

Vancouver @ Calgary 2-3 - Kenins opened the scoring with 3:48 remaining in the first, getting by Dennis Wideman before snapping a shot short side by Ramo for his third of the season to put Vancouver up 1-0. The goal came after Miller made some impressive stops. With Vey in the penalty box for tripping, Monahan's spinning shot from the slot hit the post, and on the rebound, was stopped again. Miller followed up the save with another on Wideman's shot from the point and the rebound attempt off the stick of Johnny Gaudreau, too. Miller made 11 first period saves. Monahan's first of two goals in a five-minute span pulled Calgary even at 6:48 of the second period. Deryk Engelland's stretch pass found Jiri Hudler, who sent Johnny Gaudreau in alone on Miller. Gaudreau couldn't slip a deke between Miller's legs, but Monahan followed up by poking the loose puck over the goal line just before a sliding Christopher Tanev dislodged the net to tie the game 1-1. The play was reviewed and the goal stood. At 11:42 Monahan lifted a shot over Miller's glove after working a give-and-go off the rush with Hudler for his team-leading 19th of the year to put Calgary ahead. Skating four aside with Daniel Sedin and Matt Stajan serving coincidental unsportsmanlike conduct minors, Ramo stopped Chris Higgins initial shot but Vey converted the rebound to tie the game 2-2 with 2:17 remaining in the second. David Jones sent a pass into the slot to Bouma, who beat Canucks goaltender Ryan Miller between the legs to put Calgary up 3-2 at 1:41 into the third period.

Washington @ Los Angeles 1-3 - The new '70s line, with King replacing injured forward Tanner Pearson, has carried the Kings with nine goals and nine assists in the past four games. But the unheralded Stoll and Lewis rounded out depth scoring. Lewis finished a 2-on-1 with Marian Gaborik 17 seconds into the third and Stoll redirected Dustin Brown's pass behind Braden Holtby at 7:09 of the third. Lewis beat Holtby with a backhand for his career-high seventh goal. Stoll's goal came after Ovechkin had pulled Washington to 2-1 with his 34th goal, a one-timer off Evgeny Kuznetsov's pass during 4-on-4 play at 1:55 of the third. It was Ovechkin's first goal in six career games at Staples Center. King tapped in Toffoli's rebound at the goal line at 9:03 of the second after his line pressured Washington. King has goals in three straight games. This one came just after Capitals coach Barry Trotz called timeout. Holtby anchored Washington with 14 saves in the first period to keep the game scoreless. Quick did his part with eight saves, notably against Eric Fehr on a shorthanded bid in the first and on Nicklas Backstrom from the slot in the second after a Robyn Regehr giveaway.
