Metallurg Novokuznetsk won 3-1 at Severstal in a clash between two struggling teams. Alexei Razumov, Alexei Dostoinov and Alexander Romanov got the goals for Kuznya. Dinamo Minsk v Admiral 5-3
Dinamo Minsk got the better of Admiral in an entertaining game. Admiral led on Dmitry Sayustov’s first-period goal but Dinamo’s North American cohort fired in four without reply in the second period. Sayustov got his second in the 49th minute, but Nick Bailen matched that feat a few minutes later to lead Dinamo to a 5-3 verdict.
Lokomotiv v SKA 2-3
Lokomotiv lost its grip on top spot after going down to a narrow defeat against the defending champion. Ilya Kovalchuk was the star man, scoring twice for SKA to secure the win. The first period was all about the visitor, with goals from Vadim Shipachyov and Kovalchuk opening up a 2-0 lead. But Loko came back strongly in the second period, tying the scores thanks to Yegor Korshkov and Jonas Enlund. That fightback was thwarted by a penalty on Daniil Apalkov which gave SKA’s power play the chance to strike. Kovalchuk took advantage, firing home from the left-hand circle to snatch the points deep in the middle session.
Torpedo v Amur 2-1 SO
Torpedo needed a shoot-out to overcome Amur after a 1-1 tie. Vladimir Galuzin got the winner; Oleg Li and Alexander Budkin traded scores in regulation.
HC Sochi v Spartak Moscow 2-1
HC Sochi picked up a 2-1 win at home to Spartak. Andre Petersson opened the scoring before Alexander Mereskin tied it up. Ben Maxwell won it for Sochi late in the second period.
CSKA Moscow v Sibir 3-1
These two teams have plenty in common: CSKA coach Dmitry Kvartalnov came to Moscow after impressing in Siberia, and the likes of Dmitry Kugryshev and Dmitry Monya have represented both clubs in recent seasons. But friendship was quickly set aside in this clash of the conference high flyers as CSKA raced into a 2-0 lead early on. Alexander Radulov opened the scoring in the third minute and Evgeny Korotkov doubled the advantage in the sixth. That set the Army Men on the way towards the top of the table, while Eastern Conference leader Sibir found itself playing catch-up. Maxim Shalunov pulled a goal back in the second period but Bogdan Kiselevich settled the outcome in the third.
