Amur v Avangard 2-0
Life under new head coach Andrei Nikolishin is going well for Amur, the Khabarovsk team won its fourth game in succession after changing its coaching staff, and this time it claimed a big scalp in the shape of Avangard. The Eastern Conference high flyer came to the Far East hoping to secure top spot in the conference, but found itself thwarted by another strong goaltending display from Alexander Pechursky between the piping for Amur. He turned away 23 shots, helped by a strong defense that limited Avangard to only a handful of looks at the net in the first period. It took time for the goals to come: scoreless at 40 minutes, the game was decided midway through the third. Mikhail Zheleznov broke the deadlock in the 50th minute, with Pechursky adding an assist for good measure. Then Vladislav Ushenin made it 2-0 in the 54th minute to put Amur in complete control.
Admiral v Barys Astana 4-2
Admiral won 4-2 at home to Barys. The Sailors set a course for comfortable waters with three unanswered goals in the first two periods. Dmitry Sayustov, David Booth and Alexei Ugarov got on the scoresheet. Dustin Boyd and Nigel Dawes reduced the deficit in the third but Admiral held fast and clinched the win with Yegor Dugin’s empty net goal.
Metallurg Nk v Avtomobilist 2-3
Avtomobilist scored twice in a minute midway through the first period to set up a 3-2 win at Metallurg Novokuznetsk. Pavel Turbin and Alexei Mikhnov got those early markers before Kirill Lebedev pulled one back for the home team. Alexander Torchenyuk got the only goal of the second period to make it 3-1 for Avto; Russia U20 prospect Kirill Kaprizov reduced Kuznya’s deficit in the third but the visitor held on.
Sibir v Ugra 5-2
Sibir extended its lead at the top of the Eastern Conference with a comfortable win over Ugra. The outcome was settled fairly quickly: two goals from Sergei Shumakov in the first 10 minutes put Sibir in control and David Ullstrom added a third in the 11th minute. Tomas Vincour made it 4-0 early in the second before Ugra belatedly got into the game thanks to markers from Artyom Bulyansky and Pavel Medvedev. However, there was no way back: Konstantin Okulov made it 5-2 early in the third to complete the victory.
Jokerit v Traktor 5-4 SO
Another high-scoring game involving Jokerit went to a shoot-out before the home side edged past Traktor. After a 4-4 tie, even the game-winning shots were full of goals: the first five all found the target, but Riku Helenius finally denied Stanislav Chistov so Philip Larsen’s attempt proved decisive. In regulation the game ebbed and flowed. Traktor took an early lead after Ville Lajunen’s slip presented young Semyon Afonasyevsky with a simple chance to score his second goal in two games. That lead lasted just 11 seconds before Larsen tied it up, and there was a similarly quickfire exchange in the 17th minute as Petteri Wirtanen gave Jokerit a short-lived lead that was cancelled out by Danil Gubarev. Just before midway there was yet another rapid exchange of goals: Peter Regin put Jokerit in front but once again Traktor found an instant answer through Vyacheslav Osnovin. A power play goal from Semyon Kokuyov put Traktor up 4-3 in the 34th minute and this lead endured for longer than usual. It took almost 20 minutes for Jokerit to draw level once again, with Juhamatti Aaltonen getting the clutch goal to take it to the extras.
Dinamo Riga v Neftekhimik 4-1
Dinamo Riga recovered from 0-1 down to beat Neftekhimik 4-1 in Latvia. Sergei Andreyev gave the visitor a good start, but Edgars Kulda, Ville Leino, Kristaps Sotnieks and Gunars Skvorcovs turned the game around for Dinamo.
