Chicago Blackhawks right wing Patrick Kane extended his point streak to a franchise record 22 games in the Blackhawks' 3-1 victory against the Winnipeg Jets at United Center. Kane's hand pass from the Blackhawks' defensive zone led to an empty-net goal by rookie left wing Artemi Panarin at 18:14 of the third period to keep the streak alive and surpass Bobby Hull, whose 21-game streak in 1971-72 was the previous record. Hull attended the game and said before the game that he was pulling for Kane to break the record. Kane watched Panarin receive the puck, pull it around defenseman Tyler Myers and shoot it into the vacated net from the neutral zone.
Kane's streak is the longest by an American-born player. It almost ended. The Jets did a good job of eliminating time and space whenever Kane got onto the ice, whether it was 5-on-5 play or during three unsuccessful Chicago power plays. Kane's line, which includes Panarin at left wing and Artem Anisimov at center, wasn't able to assert it's usual dominance. The Blackhawks' top line, centered by captain Jonthan Toews, picked up the slack. Marian Hossa, the right wing on that line, had a goal and assist, and left wing Teuvo Teravainen scored what turned out to be the game-deciding goal in the first minute of the third period. Corey Crawford made 30 saves for the Blackhawks, who ended a three game losing streak. Michael Hutchinson made 29 saves for the Jets, who got a goal from Chris Thorburn.

The Blackhawks took a 1-0 lead in the first on Hossa's fifth goal at 17:56, which he scored off a rebound of a point shot by Brent Seabrook. The Blackhawks had a goal by center Marcus Kruger overturned at 12:50 of the first after a video review that determined he kicked the puck into the net.
Chicago lost defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk for much of the first following a blocked shot, but he returned later in the period. Trevor Daley collided with Thorburn at 10:35 of the second period. Thorburn's right knee appeared to hit Daley's head and sent him to the ice. Daley was down for a couple minutes and was helped up before leaving the ice with assistance. He did not return and no update was given after the game.
Winnipeg tied it 1-1 at 5:34 of the second on Thorburn's goal, which he scored after Toby Enstrom threw the puck toward the crease from behind the net. It deflected off Crawford's left pad before Thorburn sent it to the back of the net.
The puck quickly bounced out, and play continued for 45 seconds before it was reviewed during a stoppage and ruled a goal.
Chicago responded with Teravainen's fifth goal, which gave the Blackhawks a 2-1 lead 21 seconds into the third. The assists on Teravainen's goal went to Hossa and Duncan Keith, who extended his point streak to six straight games. Prior to the game, Chicago recalled left wing Bryan Bickell from Rockford of the American Hockey League. Bickell played on the third line and had seven hits, including a big one late in the first that knocked former Blackhawks defenseman Dustin Byfuglien to the ice. Byfuglien retaliated and was called for roughing to give Chicago a power play. Hutchinson came into the game 0-6-1 with an .851 save percentage in his previous seven starts.
