New Jersey @ Carolina 2-1 - Jaromir 'Judas' Jagr had a goal and an assist to move ahead of Marcel Dionne for fifth place on the NHL's all-time points list Monday in a 2-1 win against the Hurricanes at PNC Arena. Jagr scored on a snap shot from the slot to tie the game in the second period, then made a beautiful pass for the go-ahead goal. The 42-year-old has been battling flu symptoms for 10 days. A few hours before the game, he wasn't sure if he was well enough to play. Jagr's heroics were only part of the story. Cory Schneider stopped 39 shots, including 17 in the third period, to win his 11th game. After a sluggish first period, Justin Faulk put the Hurricanes up 1-0 at 7:11 of the second period. Carolina won a faceoff and moved the puck sharply before Andrej Nestrasil set up Faulk in the high slot for a wrist shot that beat Schneider over the blocker. On a night when the Devils used a patchwork lineup and did not have a lot of jump, the momentum seemed to shift as quickly as Jagr's health. Scott Gomez set up Jagr to tie the game 1-1 at 14:45 of the second. After a Ron Hainsey turnover, Gomez collected the puck in the corner and found Jagr in the slot, where he beat Carolina goalie Cam Ward with a low shot for his fifth goal. The goal gives Jagr 710 in his career, seven behind Phil Esposito for fifth all-time. Gomez and Jagr teamed up for the game-winning goal on the power play with 14 seconds remaining in the second. Gomez moved the puck to Jagr, who quickly circled the net and wrapped a pass to Henrique at the far post for his eighth goal. Jagr's assist, which moved him past Dionne on the points list, was the 1,062nd of his career, one behind Steve Yzerman for seventh on the NHL's all-time assists list. The two assists for Gomez were the first points since he signed with New Jersey on Dec. 1. He was quick to express appreciation for what his new linemate has done since coming into the NHL in 1990. Jagr has reflected often in recent years, particularly since his return from a three-year stint in the Kontinental Hockey League. He doesn't have a lot to say about his numbers, except to acknowledge his good health and the reason he feels the points have piled up.

"I've played on some pretty good teams with a lot of good players. That's what it takes. Sooner or later, you score some goals."

Chicago @ New Jersey 3-2 SO - Duncan Keith scored the tying goal late in regulation, and Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane scored in the shootout to give the Blackhawks a 3-2 win. Toews and Kane were the only two shooters Devils goalie Keith Kinkaid faced. Chicago goalie Scott Darling made saves on Devils forwards Martin Havlat and Jaromir Jagr. Keith scored the tying goal off a rebound with 3:13 remaining in the third period. Kinkaid was turning aside shot after shot with the Devils holding on to a 2-1 lead, but the rebound of Marian Hossa's shot from the right side came directly to Keith in the lower part of the left circle. Kinkaid was the biggest reason the Devils got a point. His left pad save on Patrick Sharp's breakaway 1:45 into the third period preserved a 1-1 tie. Gionta scored 46 seconds later to give the Devils a 2-1 lead. The Devils were inches, or perhaps just an inch, from taking a 3-1 lead at 10:39 of the third period, but Martin Havlat's backhand from the left of the blue paint hit the right post.

Philadelphia @ Columbus  2-3 OT - There were a lot of firsts flying around Nationwide Arena. The 24-year-old defenseman took a pass from Ryan Johansen and scored at 1:58 of overtime to give the Blue Jackets a 3-2 win against the Philadelphia Flyers. It was Columbus' fourth straight victory.
Connauton, a healthy scratch the previous game, has played seven games for the Blue Jackets since being claimed off waivers from the Dallas Stars on Nov. 18. Brayden Schenn sent the game to overtime when he scored the tying goal for Philadelphia with 56 seconds left in regulation, a minute after the Flyers had pulled goaltender Steve Mason for an extra attacker. It initially was waved off on the ice, but that ruling was overturned upon video review when it was determined the puck entered the net on Schenn's original shot as the referee was whistling for play to stop. Connauton's goal completed an odd-man rush with Johansen. It was something Connauton might not have done in regulation. Hartnell gave Columbus the 2-1 lead in the second period. Boone Jenner scored for the Blue Jackets before Schenn got the Flyers on the board with a power-play goal late in the first period. Center Brandon Dubinsky quickly made an impact for Columbus in his first action of the season after missing 26 games because of abdominal surgery. He had the primary assist on the first-period goal by Jenner that gave the Blue Jackets a 1-0 lead with 7:26 left. Philadelphia got the equalizer with 2:07 left in the first on its second power play. Claude Giroux set up Schenn in front with a feed from the left wall. The pass went directly to Schenn in the slot for a one-motion redirect on the third of five shots the Flyers had in the period. In the second period Hartnell took advantage of chaos in front of Mason. He kicked the puck from his right skate to his stick and swiped it backhand past Mason with 9:21 left in the period.

Los Angeles @ Buffalo 0-1 - Enroth was under pressure by the Kings offense throughout the game, but came up big in the third period when he made 14 saves. Enroth made two saves during a Kings power play with 6:52 left in the third and made two more against Kings forward Tyler Toffoli to keep the Kings scoreless. Ennis scored four minutes into the third period to give the Sabres a 1-0 lead. With Kings defenseman Robyn Regehr in the penalty box for roughing, Ennis received a pass from Matt Moulson in front of the net and took a wrist shot that beat Kings goalie Jonathan Quick for his eighth goal of the season. On the goal, Kings forward Mike Richards left his position in front of the net and pursued Moulson behind Quick's goal. Ennis slipped out front alone where Moulson found him.

Calgary @ Toronto 1-4 - Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau had a good scoring chance for Calgary at 10:37 of the first period, but after moving in alone, he was unable to beat goalie Jonathan Bernier with a deke. The Maple Leafs scooped the rebound, raced into the Flames zone, and after left wing Joffrey Lupul threw the puck in front, Peter Holland scored his seventh goal of the season at 10:46. It is the second straight game Holland has scored. The Maple Leafs made it 2-0 at 2:51 of the second period when Nazem Kadri's pinpoint pass to James van Riemsdyk in the slot was redirected past goalie Jonas Hiller. Calgary's David Jones was in the penalty box for high-sticking. When the Maple Leafs were called for a too many men on the ice penalty, Calgary scored at 3:48 to make it 2-1 with Markus Granlund sending a high shot past Bernier after being sent in alone. The Maple Leafs scored two empty-net goals, the first by Kessel at 19:20 and the other by Mike Santorelli at 19:56.

Vancouver @ Montreal 1-3 - Jean Beliveau was cheered on by his wife, Elise, throughout his Hall of Fame career with the Montreal Canadiens. After he retired from the NHL in 1971, the couple kept rooting on their beloved team in person, for many years in the same seats three rows behind the Montreal bench at Bell Centre. Tuesday night, Mrs. Beliveau was there as always, with the spirit of her late husband right beside her, and the Canadiens delivered her and her grieving family a thrilling victory that she joyfully celebrated with the puck from Tomas Plekanec's game-winning goal. Plekanec scored with 4:14 left in the third period to help Montreal end its three-game losing streak with a 3-1 win against the Vancouver Canucks in the Canadiens' first home game since Jean Beliveau died at the age of 83 on Dec. 2. A moment of silence was observed, and the capacity crowd, officially reduced by one to 21,286, rose in a standing ovation at the end of a video tribute for Beliveau, whose funeral is Wednesday. Beliveau's empty seat had his No. 4 jersey draped across the back and was illuminated by a spotlight during the ceremony and throughout the game. After Pacioretty scored into an empty net with 0.2 seconds left in the third, Plekanec handed his goal puck to Canadiens physician Dr. David Mulder, who gave it to Mrs. Beliveau. On the winning goal, Montreal rookie Sven Andrighetto drove the right side and made a centering pass to Plekanec, who put a shot into the top left corner from the slot. Brendan Gallagher scored in the second to put the Canadiens ahead 1-0, and Carey Price made 15 saves for Montreal, which had gone 1-5-1 in its previous six games. Dorsett drew Vancouver even at 1-1 at 11:56 of the second period with his second shorthanded goal of the season. Jannik Hansen chased down Canucks defenseman Kevin Bieksa's clearing pass from deep in the Vancouver zone in the left faceoff circle of the Montreal zone. He fed a centering pass to Dorsett, who beat Montreal center David Desharnais down the ice to put a shot inside the right post for his fourth goal. Gallagher scored his second goal in three games at 6:56 of the second. He snapped a wrist shot past Miller into the top right corner from the left faceoff dot for his eighth goal. Price dove stick-first to his right and stopped Nick Bonino's shot on the goal line with his paddle at 1:04 of the first. A video review upheld the call on the ice that the puck had not entered the net. Pacioretty's shot hit the right post on a shorthanded 2-on-1 pass from Plekanec at 16:51 of the second.

Washington @ Tampa Bay 5-3 - Ovechkin scored 40 seconds into the game and added an empty-net goal with one second remaining to help the Capitals earn a 5-3 win. Brooks Laich scored at 4:36 of the second period to give the Capitals a 3-2 lead. He controlled a loose puck after it bounced off the glass near the right post and sent it past Lightning goalie Ben Bishop. Troy Brouwer gave the Capitals a 4-2 lead with his seventh goal of the season at 10:52 of the third period when he came in as a trailer on an odd-man rush and fought off a check attempt by Steven Stamkos to flip the puck high past Bishop. Stamkos scored his 250th NHL goal 47 seconds into the second period to tie the game 2-2. The Lightning captain took a centering pass from Ryan Callahan and sent a wrist shot past defenseman Brooks Orpik and between the pads of goalie Braden Holtby. Holtby made several key saves in the third period. He stopped Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov on two opportunities in front of the net early in the period and finished with 33 saves. Late in the second period the Lightning almost tied the game on a power play, but Valtteri Filppula's shot hit the post and Holtby smothered the puck and fell into the net. The referee blew the whistle and signaled no goal with a video review confirming his call. Matt Niskanen scored a power-play goal at 14:23 in the first period to give the Capitals a 2-1 lead. Nicklas Backstrom and Marcus Johansson each had two assists. Tampa Bay's Brian Boyle scored at 13:49 of the first period, and Filppula scored with 2.9 seconds remaining in the third.

NY Islanders @ Minnesota 4-5 - Eight minutes into the second period, a scary hit on a teammate provided the emotional lift they needed. Minnesota rallied from two three-goal deficits in a 5-4 win. For Minnesota, it was the second straight game it erased a 3-0 deficit on home ice. The Wild rallied Friday against the Anaheim Sucks, taking a 4-3 lead before eventually falling 5-4. Per Elias Sports Bureau, it's the first time in Wild history they've won in regulation in a game they trailed by three goals. It was the seventh time this season an NHL team has rallied from three goals down and won. Down 4-1 to start the third, the Wild got goals from Mikko Koivu and Erik Haula to start the rally before former Islanders forward Thomas Vanek chipped away at a loose puck in front of Islanders goaltender Chad Johnson, tying the game at 4-4 with 8:12 to play. Four minutes later, it was another former Islander scoring off a scramble: Nino Niederreiter, New York's first-round pick (No. 5) at the 2010 NHL Draft, scored his team-leading 12th goal with 4:33 left. The Islanders got a late power play and pulled Johnson with one minute left for a 6-on-4 advantage but were unable to capitalize. Down 3-0 after one, Minnesota was outshot 11-3 and was loudly booed off the ice. The start of the second was better, but it wasn't until an injury to defenseman Keith Ballard eight minutes into the period when the emotion finally showed up. After dumping the puck into the zone, Ballard tried to avoid a check from Islanders forward Matt Martin at the glass between the two benches. Ballard turned and Martin checked him awkwardly into the boards. He laid motionless on the ice for several seconds before medical personnel got to him. A few more seconds passed before stretchers and doctors from each team surrounded Ballard in what quickly became a serious situation. He eventually was able to get on his skates and leave the ice with assistance and was taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. The Wild did not have an update on his condition following the game. On the next shift, forward Mikael Granlund drew a power play and 18 seconds into it, Jason Pominville tipped a shot from the point by Ryan Suter past Johnson for his sixth goal. The Islanders had one shot in the period, but made it count. Mikhail Grabovski outworked a pair of players along the wall before getting the puck to Josh Bailey all alone in front, and he he beat Backstrom for his fourth goal of the season at 17:17. First-period goals by Michael Grabner, Brock Nelson and Martin gave the Islanders a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes. Grabner's goal came in transition when he fired a shot through an Anders Lee screen at 8:31 of the first. Lee got an assist, as did rookie defenseman Griffin Reinhart, his first NHL point. Nelson tipped in a Nick Leddy shot on the power play to make it 2-0 at 17:15 of the first and Martin's goal 32 seconds later came off a scramble in front of Backstrom.

Nashville @ Colorado 3-0 - Gabriel Bourque, who set up Forsberg's goal, scored into an empty net with 1:50 remaining. Forsberg, who leads NHL rookies with 12 goals and 27 points, raced down right wing after taking a pass from Bourque with Avalanche defenseman Tyson Barrie in pursuit. Forsberg cut to the net and put a wrist shot by Pickard's left arm. Pickard, who had 33 saves, was recalled Monday from Lake Erie in the American Hockey League because goalie Semyon Varlamov is expected to miss about two weeks because of a groin injury. Forsberg had another breakaway at 12:59 of the first period after accepting a pass from Ryan Ellis, but Pickard made a pad save. Alex Tanguay was assessed a hooking penalty, but the Avalanche killed off the ensuing power play. The Avalanche killed all six of the Predators' power plays, including a four-minute advantage after Jarome Iginla was assessed a double-minor for high-sticking Neal with 22.2 seconds left in the second period. The Predators held the Avalanche without a shot on goal during a 10-minute stretch of the second period. Colorado's best scoring chance came at 16:30 when Gabriel Landeskog corralled a rebound outside the crease and shot the puck off the right goal post.
