Philadelphia @ Los Angeles 2-1 - The Kings outshot the Flyers 31-9 over the final two periods, but could not overcome a typically slow afternoon-game start. They failed to convert on two power plays in the final 4:51, including a 13-second two-man advantage. Simmonds gave the Flyers a 2-0 lead with a power-play goal at 2:08 of the second period. The Kings killed a 5-on-3 Flyers advantage, but Simmonds finished a rush with a wrist shot that trickled through Jonathan Quick's five-hole with the Kings still down a man. Giroux's eighth goal snapped the Kings' shutout streak at 126:24. He scored on a pretty finish of a give-and-go with defenseman Mark Streit 4:35 into the game. Giroux made a no-look pass to Streit, who found Giroux with the return pass in the slot for a high snap shot.
Vancouver @ Toronto 2-5 - Vancouver pressed early, but Bernier held his ground and denied Radim Vrbata alone in the slot at 8:18 and then stopped Alexander Edler from in tight at 9:52. Gardiner joined the rush to give the Maple Leafs a 1-0 lead at 16:32. The swift-skating defenseman carried the puck from his own zone into the Vancouver end, stopped dead in his tracks and when he was unable to find a teammate, snapped a 30-foot shot on goal that Canucks goalie Ryan Miller stopped. The rebound was accidentally swatted into the net by Vancouver defenseman Yannick Weber and gave Gardiner his second goal of the season. Thirty-five seconds later, Richard Panik got the puck in a good shooting position on his forehand in the slot. Instead of shooting right away, though, Panik switched to his backhand and slid the puck along to ice and caught Miller sliding out of the net to make it 2-0. Toronto center Peter Holland scored his sixth of the season at 5:39 of the second period when he collected a rebound in front of the net and beat Miller with a wrist shot to the far corner. Less than two minutes later, Holland set up Joffrey Lupul in the slot and scored with a shot off the inside of the far post. Daniel Sedin got the Canucks on the scoreboard during a 4-on-4 situation with his seventh goal of the season when he stuffed his own rebound past Bernier at 15:21. Christopher Tanev pulled the Canucks within a two goals at 8:45 of the third period when he took a pass at the side of the net and tipped a shot past Bernier for his first goal of the season.
Toronto right wing David Clarkson iced it for the Maple Leafs with an empty-net goal at 17:39, his eighth of the season.
NY Rangers @ Detroit 2-3 - The Red Wings, who broke a five-game losing streak to the Rangers, trailed 2-0 in the second period before Riley Sheahan and Luke Glendening scored 1:01 apart to tie it. Helm scored the winning goal at 7:40 of the third period. His fifth goal came on a wrist shot from the left circle off the rush. It was Helm's third goal in two games. Tomas Tatar's pass went to Helm off Brassard's skate. Sheahan put Detroit on the scoreboard with 5:46 left in the second period. He whipped a spin-a-round backhand shot past Talbot from the slot for his sixth goal. Stephen Weiss passed the puck to Sheahan from the left corner. The goal ended Talbot's shutout streak at 159:48. Glendening tied it 2-2 with his third goal. He poked a loose puck into an empty net from about two feet off a goal-mouth scramble, which was set up by Drew Miller's drive to the net off a rush down the right wing. Klein opened the scoring 9:31 into the game when he backhanded in a loose puck from in front of Howard on his second shot attempt. It was his fifth goal. Nash made it 2-0 with 5:12 left in the first period when he scored on a breakaway. He took a pass from Brassard in the neutral zone, then beat Howard with a shot stick side.
Columbus @ Tampa Bay 3-1 - Columbus controlled play early in the Lightning zone and scored on their third shot, 2:37 into the period. Blue Jackets forward Matt Calvert passed to Jenner, whose wrist shot from the left circle beat goalie Ben Bishop short-side for his fourth goal. Columbus converted on their first power play when Jack Johnson passed to Savard, who sent a wrist shot from inside the right circle on goal and it trickled past Bishop at 12:48. Columbus led 2-0 after the first period despite being outshot 14-9. Bobrovsky made a point-blank save on Brenden Morrow with 2:17 left in the first period to maintain the two-goal lead. During a 4-on-4 situation and less than two minutes remaining in the second period, Lightning defenseman Anton Stralman sent a pass through the crease but Ondrej Palat was unable to put the puck in a vacant net with Bobrovsky out of position. Skille made it 3-0 off a rush after he came out of the penalty box 4:51 into the third period. Scott Hartnell cleared the puck from the Columbus zone off of the boards to Michael Chaput, who fed Skille in a 2-on-1. Skille's pass to Calvert was deflected by Kucherov past Bishop. Palat scored the Lightning's lone goal on a tic-tac toe passing play from Kucherov and Tyler Johnson at 18:47 of the third period during a 4-on-4 situation and Bishop pulled for an extra attacker.
Buffalo @ Florida 2-3 - Florida led 1-0 before the teams combined for four goals in the last 8:58 of the second period. Stafford tied the score at 11:02 with Buffalo's first goal against Luongo since March 3, 2012. That goal, ironically, was scored by Boyes and got Luongo pulled from the game only 5:10 into the first period after he had given up three goals on seven shots. Stafford scored on a one-timer from the off wing off a beautiful feed from Hodgson, who skated across the ice and hit Stafford with a perfect pass. Kopecky gave Florida the lead again at 12:55 when he tipped Ekblad's shot from the point before Gionta also scored on a tip at 15:54. Bjugstad scored the game-winning goal on a rebound after Neuvirth made a nice pad save on Ekblad's one-timer from the slot. Boyes opened the scoring at 13:05 of the first period with his first goal in 10 games. After taking a cross-ice pass from Jussi Jokinen, he beat Neuvirth with a wrist shot high to the glove side.
Washington @ New Jersey 4-1 - Washington went ahead on Alzner's first goal of the season at 3:47 of the first period and didn't dip after New Jersey forward Patrik Elias tied it less than three minutes later. The Capitals then established control in the second period, when Beagle and Kuznetsov scored 3:25 apart to give them a 3-1 lead at 12:40. The game turned midway through the second, when Holtby denied Devils center Adam Henrique on a shorthanded breakaway with a blocker save. Henrique could have tied the game at 2-2, but instead Kuznetsov scored 72 seconds later to give Washington a 3-1 lead. Kuznetsov made the Devils pay for giving him extra room in the right circle. He used it by carrying the puck to the dot before beating goalie Cory Schneider with a short-side snap shot over the shoulder on the blocker side for his third goal. Beagle put Washington ahead 2-1 at 9:15 of the second period with his fourth goal, tying a career-high he set in 62 games last season. Beagle has scored his four goals in 21 games this season. Washington defenseman John Carlson set up Beagle with a stretch pass to the far blue line. The puck hit off Capitals center Michael Latta's shin pads and went right to Beagle, who beat Devils defenseman Andy Greene through the right circle before making a move on Schneider that left him an open net. As soon as Beagle put the puck into the net, he half-dived through the crease, catching some air.
Chicago @ Nashville 3-1 - Brandon Saad gave Chicago a 1-0 lead at 14:53 of the first period. Saad corralled the puck after defenseman Duncan Keith forced a Nashville turnover and beat Nashville goaltender Pekka Rinne with a wrist shot to the far side. Hossa gave Chicago a 2-0 lead at 2:48 of the second period. Saad fought off the Nashville defense and made a great backhand pass that gave Hossa a wide-open net. Wilson made it 2-1 at 34 seconds of the third period on a shot from the top of the faceoff circle. Wilson's shot made it through heavy traffic in front of the net and found its way past Darling. Hossa scored an empty-net goal with 1:11 remaining in regulation to make it 3-1.
Boston @ Phoenix 5-2 - The Bruins scored in the first minute for the second straight game. Oliver Ekman-Larsson's long cross-ice pass in the neutral zone was picked off by Hamilton. Hamilton hit Smith in the slot and he set up Marchand, who beat Dubnyk to the shot side with a wrist shot at 58 seconds to start his big night. It became 2-0 when Dubnyk played the puck behind his net but his wobbly pass went right to Miller on the sideboards. Dubnyk stopped one quick shot attempt, but Miller ran down his rebound untouched and beat Dubnyk between the pads at 5:58. After going more than three full games without a goal on home ice, the Coyotes broke through on a play that started with a nice Dubnyk save in tight on Daniel Paille. Michael Stone started Shane Doan on the rush and his pass found Vitale in stride. Vitale's wrist shot from the right faceoff dot beat Rask to the top far corner at 13:11 and the team's first goal at home in 185 minutes, 34 seconds cut the Boston lead to 2-1. The Bruins buried the Coyotes with a three-goal second period. It started at 8:34 when Dubynk stopped an innocent-looking shot by Paille. The rebound hit the shin pad of Gagne, who was standing right of the post and behind the goal line, and the ricochet squeezed between Dubnyk and the right post. The initial call of a kicking motion on the ice was overturned by video review and Boston's two-goal lead was restored. The odious Marchand made it 4-1 at 14:47, finishing off a 2-on-1 with a pass from Smith and chasing Dubnyk from the game. Mike Smith came on between the pipes, but Eriksson cleaned up a Patrice Bergeron power-play shot with 30 seconds left in the period to give Boston a 5-1 lead.
