New Jersey @ NY Islanders 2-3 SO - Keith Kinkaid, who grew up an Islanders fan about 30 minutes to the east in Farmingville, N.Y., made 31 saves through overtime and went 3-for-5 in the shootout. Kinkaid made saves against Frans Nielsen, John Tavares and Ryan Strome to give the Devils a chance to win. But Jaroslav Halak, who made 26 saves through overtime, outdueled Kinkaid with saves against Tuomo Ruutu, Damon Severson, Zidlicky and Jacob Josefson. Kyle Okposo and Gomez traded goals in the second round. Matt Martin scored midway through the third period for the Islanders. The Devils opened the scoring on Zidlicky's power-play goal 12:15 into the game. With Anders Lee serving an interference penalty, Zidlicky took a pass from Gomez and put a slap shot from the point through a screen and past Halak for his fourth goal of the season. Gomez increased New Jersey's lead with his second goal in as many games at 15:20. Gomez, who entered with four points in seven games, tried to send a pass to Jaromir Jagr from along the right-wing boards, but it deflected off a group of players in front and past Halak to make it 2-0. It was Jagr's 77th point (28 goals, 49 assists) in 53 games at Nassau Coliseum. Bailey cut the Devils' lead in half 1:51 into the second period. Moments after a hooking penalty to Jagr expired, Strome sent a pass from behind the net out in front to Bailey, who one-timed it past Kinkaid from between the circles to make it 2-1. It was Bailey's fifth goal of the season. Kinkaid made his best save of the game six minutes into the third period when he got his right pad on Matt Donovan's wrist shot from the right circle. Donovan was left all alone in the right circle as coinciding penalties against Tavares and Seth Helgeson were expiring. But the Islanders tied it on Martin's goal with 9:15 remaining. Martin cruised down the right wing, received a nice pass from Casey Cizikas and beat Kinkaid with a wrist shot from the right circle to make it 2-2. It was Martin's fourth goal of the season. The Devils got a power play with 1:49 left when Tavares slashed Zidlicky, but the Islanders managed to force overtime. They outshot New Jersey 13-7 in the third period. New York received a man-advantage in overtime when Gomez tripped Bailey along the left-wing boards in the Devils' zone with 2:43 left. Kinkaid kept the game tied with 1:13 to go when he gloved Okposo's wrist shot from the left circle. Bailey had a semi-breakaway in the closing seconds, but his wrist shot went off Kinkaid's mask to send the game to a shootout.
Ottawa @ Buffalo 4-5 SO - Matt Moulson scored the only goal in the shootout and Jhonas Enroth stopped all three shooters to give Buffalo a 5-4 victory. Sabres forward Brian Flynn tied it 4-4 with 3:29 left in the third period when he put the rebound of a shot by Foligno past Senators goalie Robin Lehner for his fourth goal of the season. Alex Chiasson gave the Senators a 4-3 lead 5:04 into the third period with his seventh goal of the season. Chiasson stole the puck from Sabres defenseman Andrej Meszaros near the blue line and skated in on a 2-on-1 with Curtis Lazar against Tyson Strachan. Chiasson deked and took a backhand that beat Enroth. Forward Mark Stone cut the Sabres' lead to 3-2 with his seventh goal of the season. Stone received a pass from Kyle Turris on a 3-on-2 against Sabres defensemen Tyler Myers and Nikita Zadorov and took a wrist shot that beat Enroth at 13:42 of the second period. Lazar made it 3-3 at 2:02 of the third period with his first career NHL goal. He poked the rebound of an Erik Condra shot past Enroth after a turnover by Strachan. Bobby Ryan scored in the first period for the Senators. Ryan has scored a point in four of the past five games and has six points in that time. Rasmus Ristolainen scored a power-play goal at 4:11 of the second period that tied it 1-1. It was the Sabres' seventh power-play goal of the season. Moulson and Foligno made it 3-1 when they scored 32 seconds apart in the second period. Moulson's seventh goal of the season came when he put a rebound of his own deflection of an Andrej Meszaros shot past Lehner. Foligno scored in his third consecutive game when he tapped in a pass from Flynn for his fifth goal of the season. Sabres forward Torrey Mitchell sustained a lower-body injury when he blocked a shot by Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson in the first period. Mitchell did not return following the period. With the Sabres on the road to play the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday, they recalled forward Mikhail Grigorenko from Rochester of the American Hockey League.
