NHL Results - Fri, Feb 06, 2015

Toronto @ New Jersey 1-4 - Patrik Elias has always considered himself a playmaker, but there's something to be said for scoring 400 goals in the NHL.
Elias became the 91st player in NHL history to reach 400 goals when he scored early in the second period of this 4-1 win. Elias scored 1:23 into the second to give New Jersey a 2-0 lead. It came 25 seconds after he hit the post on a rush. The goal was set up by Travis Zajac, who skated into the left circle before passing to Elias in the high slot. Toronto's Tyler Bozak scored his 15th goal of the season, first in 11 games, at 11:51 of the third period on a power play to make it 3-1. Phil Kessel skated down his right wing and took a wrist shot that deflected off the crossbar and left post before skittering to Bozak for the tip.
Jagr closed the scoring on an even-strength, empty-net goal while Maple Leafs goalie James Reimer was attempting to get to the bench for an extra attacker with 2:45 remaining. Jagr, with 716 goals, trails Phil Esposito by one for fifth in NHL history. Schneider, who was making his NHL-leading 45th start, received a bit of luck on two attempts. David Clarkson hit the crossbar with less than three minutes left in the first period, and Nazem Kadri hit the right post midway through the third. The Devils took a 3-0 lead in the second period when Bernier scored his sixth goal in the past eight games at 13:31. Adam Larsson, who is having his best statistical season since his rookie year in 2011-12, shot from the point and it deflected off the right skate of Bernier past Reimer. A short video review confirmed the goal. Ruutu opened the scoring when he backhanded an attempt off Reimer's left skate from the right post at 9:32 of the first period. Mark Fraser took a shot from the left point that banked off the end boards to Ruutu near the goal line. It was Ruutu's first goal since Nov. 22, a span of 28 games. The Maple Leafs announced during the game that they traded forwards Carter Ashton and David Broll to the Tampa Bay Lightning for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft.

Anaheim @ Washington 2-3 SO - With Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin in the penalty box for interfering with Sami Vatanen, the Ducks took a 1-0 lead 18:15 into the first period. Sustained pressure from Anaheim's power play had Washington reeling when Jakob Silfverberg retrieved the puck for Kesler after Matt Niskanen blocked Kesler's first shot. Kesler's next shot beat Grubauer from above the left circle for his 15th goal of the season. As Anaheim attempted to leave their zone early in the second period, Troy Brouwer swiped the puck from Ben Lovejoy as he lay on the ice, keeping the play onside and facilitating a 2-on-0 with Kuznetsov and Chimera. Chimera finished with a goal between Bryzgalov's legs at 4:15, his first since Jan. 14. The Capitals continued to test Bryzgalov with point-blank scoring chances, none closer than Brouwer's at 15:24. Johansson led Brouwer with a pass that clipped the crossbar after Bryzgalov attempted to poke the puck. Carlson scored at 10:44 of the third period, redeeming himself after sailing a wide-open slap shot over the net by beating Bryzgalov from the right circle 7 seconds later. Perry tied the game 2-2 at 13:45, banking the puck off Grubauer's left skate.
In the shootout, Grubauer stopped Perry and Kesler in the second and third rounds.

Chicago @ Winnipeg 2-1 OT - Brandon Saad scored with 1:59 remaining in overtime, and the Chicago Blackhawks ended a two-game losing streak with a 2-1 win. Saad positioned himself in the slot, where he was able to snap Patrick Kane's rebound past Winnipeg goaltender Michael Hutchinson. Kane stopped Chicago's scoreless streak at 149:25 with a goal 2:50 into the second period.
The Blackhawks, who are 9-2 in overtime, moved four points ahead of the Jets in the Central Division with two games in hand.  The win was No. 300 for coach Joel Quenneville with the Blackhawks (300-145-61). He has the best winning percentage in Blackhawks history and ranks third all-time among NHL coaches with 709 wins (709-410-178). The Jets began Friday with the news that left wing Evander Kane is out for the rest of the season. The 23-year-old, who had 10 goals in 37 games, will have surgery on his left shoulder and be sidelined 4-6 months. Kane was scratched Tuesday against the Vancouver Canucks, a move Jets coach Paul Maurice called a coach's decision. Winnipeg holds the first wild card spot into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference and leads Vancouver, the second wild-card team, by three points. Vancouver has four games in hand on Winnipeg, which is in a stretch of seven consecutive games against Western Conference teams. The Jets took a 1-0 lead 4:17 into the game when Mark Scheifele drove the net before snapping a shot over Crawford's left glove. Scheifele's eighth goal ended a 10-game drought and was his second in the past 22 games. Chicago tied the game when Kane broke loose at the Winnipeg blue line and backhanded a shot over Hutchinson for his 26th goal. With two points, Kane tied Jakub Voracek for the NHL lead (58). Winnipeg often steered the game toward the physical, confrontational style that has marked its transition since Maurice took over from Claude Noel in January 2014. The Jets outhit the Blackhawks 41-16.
