NHL Results - Mon, Feb 09, 2015

Edmonton @ New Jersey 2-1 - Elias gave the Devils a 1-0 in the first when he scored the 401st goal of his career at 5:47. After collecting a feed from Martin Havlat in the right circle, Elias sent a wrist shot inside the right post and past Scrivens. The Oilers tied it when Klefbom released a snap shot from the left circle that beat Schneider low on the long side with 35.7 seconds remaining in the first period. Klefbom's second goal of the season was set up by Eberle, who sent a pass across the crease from the goal line. Yakupov, who played 2:53 of the first period after receiving five stitches above his lip following a collision with Steve Bernier, gave the Oilers a 2-1 lead on a power-play goal from the right circle at 12:45 of the second. Jordan Eberle (two assists) fed Yakupov with a pass from the opposite circle that Yakupov connected for a one-timer past Schneider inside the right post. The Devils pulled Schnieder with 1:30 remaining in the third for an extra attacker but could not get the tying goal. New Jersey had one power play and did not record a shot.
Los Angeles @ Columbus 4-3 - Twice the sound of the cannon in Nationwide Arena had barely stopped reverberating before the Kings responded with a score en route to a two-goal lead. And when Columbus got to within one with a late goal, Jonathan Quick made the saves to help the Kings to a 4-3 victory. The line of Jeff Carter, Dwight King and Tyler Toffoli combined for three goals and five points, and Los Angeles won the final two games of a five-game road trip after losing the first three. David Savard had a goal and an assist. His eighth goal with 1:53 left in regulation after goalie Curtis McElhinney was pulled eight seconds earlier drew the Blue Jackets within one, but Quick made the final four of his 23 saves. Columbus’ first loss in three games spoiled Hartnell’s 1,000th NHL game. His goal with 5:42 left in the second briefly tied the game 2-2. Hartnell extended his goal streak to three games with his 13th to complete a breakout with Ryan Johansen. Hartnell took the outlet from Johansen and then returned the puck as they entered the zone. Johansen whipped a cross-ice pass from the right circle to Hartnell for his 263rd NHL goal. The euphoria lasted only 76 seconds before the Kings made it 3-2 with Carter converting a goalmouth pass from McNabb. McNabb filled in for defenseman Alec Martinez, who did not play because of concussion-like symptoms. Brown pounced on the rebound of a Marian Gaborik shot from the slot to increase the lead to 4-2 with his ninth goal 1:49 into the third period. The Kings brushed aside an early own goal to hold a 2-1 lead after the first period. Columbus took a 1-0 lead 1:40 into the first when a centering pass by Skille went into the net off the skate of Jamie McBain for his sixth goal. The score had not been announced before King tied the game off the rush 32 seconds later. Carter found King in front for the tap-in for his eighth goal on McElhinney, who made 40 saves.
Vancouver @ Minnesota 3-5 - The victory pulled the Wild to within three points of the Canucks in the Western Conference wild-card standings for a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Minnesota lost two players to injury in the first half of the first period. Forwards Ryan Carter and Jason Zucker each sustained an upper-body injury and did not return, forcing the Wild to play the majority of the game with 10 forwards. Vancouver had the first four shots on goal, but the Wild opened scoring on their first shot, as the former Canuck Schroeder capped an odd-man rush by tucking a backhander past Ryan Miller and under the crossbar at 5:05 of the first period. Jason Pominville made it 2-0 at 7:37 of the first period, capitalizing on Minnesota's first power play. Thomas Vanek controlled the puck to Miller's left and sent a backdoor pass to Pominville who shot into an open net, ending a 12-game goal drought. Zack Kassian capped a quick rush at 10:18, beating Dubnyk low along the ice to pull Vancouver within a goal at 2-1. A turnover in the neutral zone ended up on the stick of Nino Niederreiter, who worked a give-and-go with Mikko Koivu, sending a one-timer in the slot past Miller at 15:37, giving the Wild a 3-1 lead after one period. The Canucks got a goal early in the second when Shawn Matthias controlled a loose puck near the left post and shot into an open net at 1:11 for his 10th goal.
Minnesota's power play came through again at 7:05 when Suter's slap shot got through a Zach Parise screen in front for his second goal of the season and first since opening night. Brodziak scored from the right face-off dot less than a minute later to send Miller to the bench. Eddie Lack finished with 14 saves in relief of Miller, who allowed five goals on 18 shots and was pulled for the fourth time this season. Ryan Stanton scored with 2:03 left on a tip-in of a Daniel Sedin shot from the right point. Nick Bonino left the game on Suter's goal after blocking an initial shot from the point and crumpling to the ice. The puck went right back to Suter who scored on the next shot

Phoenix @ Chicago 3-2 SO - Antoine Vermette scored the deciding goal to start the third round and goalie Mike Smith made a save against Patrick Sharp to end the wild final sequence. Lucas Lessio led off the shootout for Phoenix with a goal and Patrick Kane was the lone Chicago shooter to beat Smith, who made 36 saves in regulation and overtime. Smith's biggest save was against Shaw with 16.2 seconds left in overtime. After getting a piece of the original shot, the puck flipped behind him and appeared to land in the net. It wasn't ruled a goal on the ice, play continued and Saad lifted a wrist shot off the rebound that hit the crossbar. About 20 seconds earlier, Keith Yandle nearly ended the game during an unexpected mini-break against Raanta. Yandle made a nice move to the outside, but Raanta sprawled to make the save and set up the thrill show at the other end. That's how Doan scored to tie it 1-1 at 17:23 of the second to cap a power play for the Coyotes, who came into the game ranked second in the NHL in road man-advantage situations. After Yandle's slap shot from the right point, Doan got his stick on it to get it past Raanta. It helped Phoenix take back momentum after the first of Hossa's goals, which he scored at 12:44 of the second by tipping a backhand saucer pass from the corner by captain Jonathan Toews. Early in the third, Vermette gave the Coyotes their first lead with his 12th goal. He made it 2-1 at 3:59 by tipping a shot to beat Raanta. The original shot was taken by Oliver Ekman-Larsson, who assisted on each of the goals.
Hossa tied it 2-2 at 12:18 with his 14th goal, taking a feed by Toews in the offensive zone. His wrist shot banked off Zbynek Michalek's right leg and went past Smith. Phoenix had to kill off four power plays, including one in overtime. Chicago, which played the second half of a back-to-back and first of eight straight home games, had two shots on net in eight minutes with the man-advantage.
