Columbus @ Philadelphia 5-2 - The Blue Jackets led 2-0 after one period, but the Flyers dominated the second period and scored twice to tie the game. Though the deciding goal came in the third period, Berube felt the Flyers lost the game in the first, when they trailed 2-0 on goals 1:48 apart by Wisniewski, on a power play, and Johansen, at even strength. The Flyers carried play in the second, tying a season-high with 20 shots and scoring two goals in the final 2:35. Simmonds tipped a Del Zotto shot between McElhinney's pads at 17:25, and then Del Zotto stepped into a loose puck off the rebound of an Umberger shot with 51.5 seconds remaining to make it 2-2. A turnover is exactly what led to Calvert's game-winning goal. Seconds after he was robbed by Emery right in front, the Flyers tried to break out of their zone. But Vincent Lecavalier's pass was far behind teammate Chris VandeVelde and right on the stick of Dubinsky. He found Cam Atkinson for a 2-on-0 down low, and Atkinson threaded a pass through the slot to Calvert, who scored his eighth of the season at 9:54. Dubinsky added an insurance goal at 13:28 when he pounced on the rebound of a low shot by Scott Hartnell to score his sixth of the season. It was his third straight game with a goal, tying the longest streak of his career. Calvert closed the scoring with an empty-net goal with 55.3 seconds remaining. Richards said the line of Dubinsky, Calvert and Atkinson is starting to resemble the unit that enjoyed success last season.
NY Islanders @ Carolina 4-1 - The Islanders got the scoring underway late in the opening period on the first power-play of the game. With John-Michael Liles off for holding, Lee followed his own redirection by slipping a backhand shot under Anton Khodobin at 17:06. New York extended the lead to 2-0 on Nelson's 16th of the season at 6:58 of the second period. After taking Matt Martin's pass from behind the goal line, Nelson beat Khudobin between the blocker and the body. In the third, Thomas Hickey's chip up the boards sent Grabner in alone behind the Carolina defense, and he flipped the puck past Khudobin's glove for his sixth of the season at 7:09. Grabner was back in the lineup after missing five games because of an upper-body injury. The Hurricanes broke up Johnson's shutout bid when Eric Staal fed Jiri Tlusty at the top of the crease for his 13th goal at 11:14. With the Carolina goaltender pulled for an extra skater, Johnson made one of his best saves on Nestrasil in the low slot. The rebound came to Tavares, who sent the puck the length of the ice into the empty net to seal the win. It was Tavares' 28th goal of the season and fourth in his past three games.
Buffalo @ New Jersey 1-2 SO - Scott Gomez and Jacob Josefson scored in a shootout to give New Jersey a 2-1 victory. Schneider forced Matt Moulson wide and then denied Tyler Ennis to secure the win. Adam Henrique missed a chance at giving the Devils a 2-1 lead with 3:27 left in the third period when he shot wide of the net on New Jersey's first penalty shot of the season. Henrique had taken a pass from Travis Zajac in the neutral zone and broke into the Sabres end before being tripped from behind by Zach Bogosian. Ennis scored his 14th goal of the season 27 seconds into the third to help the Sabres erase a 1-0 deficit. After Zemgus Girgensons won an offensive zone faceoff, Ennis picked up the loose puck in the right circle and quickly snapped a shot that beat Schneider under the arm. Elias scored his 402nd career goal on the power-play 6:19 into the first to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Marek Zidlicky directed a shot toward the net from the left point and Elias got the blade of his stick on the puck, redirecting it past Neuvirth. The goal was scored with Sabres captain Brian Gionta serving a holding penalty. The Devils missed a golden opportunity to extend the lead at 14:29 when Gomez and Jaromir Jagr broke in 2-on-0 against Neuvirth but failed to get a shot on goal. After receiving a pass, Jagr gave the puck back to Gomez instead of shooting into the open left side of the net.
Zach Bogosian, who was playing his second game with the Sabres since the trade from the Winnipeg Jets, had two shots and four hits in 29:14.
Florida @ Toronto 3-2 - With Florida's top scorer Nick Bjugstad in the penalty box for tripping Toronto's Richard Panik, the Maple Leafs took a 1-0 lead. Tyler Bozak scored his 16th goal of the season from directly in front of the net on a tic-tac-toe passing play at 4:03 of the first period. James van Riemsdyk had an assist for his first point in eight games. The Panthers tied it 1-1 with 46 seconds to go on a power-play goal. Petter Granberg was sent off for interference, and 24 seconds later Jussi Jokinen scored his fifth goal of the season from the high slot. Bjugstad scored his 21st goal of the season at 4:42 of the second period on a power play to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead. Linemate Tomas Fleischmann circled the net with the puck and spotted Bjugstad at the other side. After a quick pass, Bjugstad beat Maple Leafs goalie Jonathan Bernier with a high snap shot. Jimmy Hayes put the Panthers up 3-1 at 13:48 when he tipped a Brian Campbell shot from the left point past Bernier for his 17th goal of the season.
Phil Kessel scored a power-play goal with 50 seconds left in the third period, his 22nd goal of the season. Kessel has scored twice in five games after scoring once in 11. Center Olli Jokinen debuted for the Maple Leafs after being acquired Monday in a trade with the Predators. Jokinen played 16 shifts totaling 10:37 and had one shot on goal. The 36-year-old veteran has been assured by the Maple Leafs they will try to flip him to a playoff-contending team before the NHL Trade Deadline on March 2.
