Boston Bruins @ NY Rangers 2-3 - Nash scored 5:50 into the game. Martin St. Louis sent a cross-ice pass from along the right boards that gave Nash a breakaway; he deked before putting a backhand past Rask. Lucic, who missed the past two days of practice because of the flu, tied it at 13:37 of the first when he took a pass from Reilly Smith and beat Talbot with a wrist shot. It was Lucic's 11th goal of the season. Bergeron gave Boston a 2-1 lead 1:52 later with his 13th goal of the season. Loui Eriksson cruised down the left wing and sent a pass between the circles, where Bergeron split two defenders and redirected the feed past Talbot. Boston was outshot 12-5 in the first period. Brassard tied it 2-2 at 6:41 of the second period when he took a pass from Chris Kreider and sent a wrist shot from between the circles that got past Rask. It was Brassard's 13th goal of the season, first in his past six games. New York took a 3-2 lead when Stepan scored his ninth of the season at 16:56 of the second. Nash chipped a pass along the left boards past Bruins defenseman Dougie Hamilton up to Stepan, who managed to beat Rask with a soft wrist shot from the circle.

NY Islanders @ Philadelphia 3-2 SO - With 4:53 left in the second period, the Islanders were trailing the Flyers despite outshooting and outchancing them. And the Islanders' best defenseman, Johnny Boychuk, was being carried off the ice after being hit with a shot on the inside of his left knee. But rather than panic or hang their heads, the Islanders continued to push, tied the game in the final 3:12 of the second and defeated the Flyers 3-2 in a shootout. Cal Clutterbuck scored the game-tying goal and had the game-winning goal in the shootout to help the Islanders end a three-game losing streak. Clutterbuck's goal with 1:13 remaining in the second got the Islanders even 2-2. Mason got his blocker on Brock Nelson's shot off the rush from the left side, but the puck went right to Clutterbuck, who scored his fifth goal, first in 19 games. It came 1:59 after Grabovski turned Luke Schenn's giveaway in front of the Philadelphia net into his eighth goal. The Flyers took their lead in part because of strong play from their fourth line, especially VandeVelde and Lecavalier. The Flyers led 1-0 going into the second period despite having six shots. They got a fortuitous bounce when Josh Bailey and Travis Hamonic collided at their blue line and Lecavalier jumped on the loose puck. His shot attempt from in close bounced off Boychuk and the side of the net. Lecavalier retrieved the loose puck behind the net and found Schultz pinching in. His one-timer from the slot went past Halak for his second goal. VandeVelde made it 2-0 when Lecavalier won a board battle in the Philadelphia zone and got the puck to VandeVelde, who started a 2-on-1 rush with Pierre-Edouard Bellemare. VandeVelde held the puck on the right side and beat Halak to the short side, past his glove. After the Islanders tied the game in the second, the Flyers had chances to go ahead in the third, but they couldn't take advantage of an early power play when Tavares was sent off for slashing. In the first round of the shootout, Frans Nielsen scored for the Islanders, but Wayne Simmonds scored in the third round for the Flyers, to prolong it. In the seventh round, Clutterbuck skated down the middle and snapped a shot over Mason's glove. It was Clutterbuck's first NHL shootout goal on his fourth attempt.

A Flyers Goon in familiar pose.

Washington @ Ottawa 2-1 - Evgeny Kuznetsov and Alex Ovechkin scored 49 seconds apart in the second period, and some strong penalty killing in the third gave the Capitals a 2-1 win. The Senators opened the scoring on Kyle Turris’ first goal since Jan. 4, a stretch of 12 games, after he finished a sequence of sustained pressure by Ottawa. The lead lasted 1:13 and the Senators again surrendered some quick goals after scoring, a trend that has hurt them this season. The Capitals took advantage of a couple of bounces on their goals. Kuznetsov scored from near the goal line to Lehner’s left off a shot by Brooks Orpik that bounced off a crowd in front of Lehner. Ovechkin gave the Capitals a 2-1 lead with his 32nd goal at 14:17, showing great body control and hand-eye coordination. As he battled for position in front of the net with Senators captain Erik Karlsson, Ovechkin got his stick on a knee-high puck directed at the goal by Jay Beagle and batted it into the net. It was one of a few incidents between the two captains. After a quiet first period, Ovechkin’s hard check on Karlsson into the boards 30 seconds into the second led to a scrum. Bobby Ryan went after Ovechkin, who got Ryan in a headlock and wrestled him to the ice. Ovechkin was penalized for charging 20 seconds into the third period when he hit Karlsson into the boards. The Senators recognized veteran defenseman Chris Phillips in a ceremony before the game as the franchise leader in games played with 1,179, moving him past former captain Daniel Alfredsson. There was a video tribute before the game and Senators general manager Bryan Murray, along with Alfredsson and former teammate Wade Redden, presented Phillips with a Senators jersey with the number 1179 on the back.

Los Angeles @ Florida 2-3 - Brandon Pirri broke a 2-2 tie with 3:05 remaining in the third period. Pirri beat Jonathan Quick with a low wrist shot to short side.
Florida played without captain Willie Mitchell, who missed the game because of an upper-body injury, and was without Erik Gudbranson for the first 15 minutes of the first period. Panthers coach Gerard Gallant said after the game that something got in Gudbranson’s eye shortly before the opening faceoff and it took trainers a while to get it out. The game was tied 1-1 heading into the third period before Gaborik gave the Kings a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal at 2:19. He scored eight seconds into an interference penalty after Luongo stopped Jake Muzzin's slap shot from the point. Anze Kopitar got the rebound near the crease with his back to the net and slipped a back pass to Gaborik. Bjugstad tied it at 7:26 after taking advantage of a mistake by Muzzin. Bjugstad stole Muzzin's no-look backhand pass in the Los Angeles zone, skated in alone on Quick and beat him after holding the puck and shooting a high forehand over the sprawled goalie. Barkov opened the scoring at 10:39 of the first period. He scored on a 2-on-1 when he one-timed Brad Boyes’ backhand saucer pass and his shot went in off Quick's pads. McBain tied it at 15:48 with his 100th NHL point. He beat Luongo with a slap shot from the top of the right circle that went in off the far post.

Anaheim @ Nashville 5-2 - Ryan Getzlaf, who was a late scratch after sustaining a lower-body injury in warm-ups. Getzlaf is listed as day-to-day. Silfverberg gave Anaheim a 1-0 lead 3:08 into the first period while shorthanded. He was able to retrieve his rebound and backhand it past Rinne. Sami Vatanen gave Anaheim a 2-0 lead at 13:04 of the first. He took a pass from defense partner Clayton Stoner and his shot deflected off Nashville forward Gabriel Bourque into the net. Matt Beleskey gave the Ducks a 3-0 lead at 3:51 of the second period. He one-timed a pass from Rickard Rakell from the slot past Rinne for his 20th goal of the season. Silfverberg scored his second goal to give Anaheim a 4-0 lead at 4:34 of the second. Cam Fowler took a shot that Silfverberg was able to redirect past Rinne for his eighth goal of the season. Colin Wilson scored to make it 4-1 at 4:00 of the third period. Victor Bartley took the original shot, and Wilson was able to put the rebound past Andersen for his 17th goal of the season, a new career high. James Neal made it 4-2 with a power-play goal with 4:07 remaining. Neal took a pass from Filip Forsberg and beat Andersen through the five-hole for his 17th goal of the season. Corey Perry scored an empty-net goal with 1:19 remaining.

Detroit @ Colorado 3-0 - The Red Wings used the NHL's top-ranked power play to take a 1-0 lead at 13:25 of the second period. Justin Abdelkader's 12th goal of the season was his first in 10 games. He received a pass from Henrik Zetterberg and stickhandled in front of Varlamov before sliding the puck between his pads. An apparent goal by Colorado's Gabriel Landeskog at 6:09 of the first period was disallowed following a video review because it was preceded by Nick Holden's hand pass. O'Reilly took a shot Mrazek deflected into the air and Holden knocked it down with his glove. The puck hit Kyle Quincey's skate and Landeskog shot it inside the left post. The Red Wings never had possession before Landeskog's shot, therefore the goal was wiped out. The Red Wings added empty-net goals from Darren Helm with 2:36 remaining and Luke Glendening with 14.8 seconds to go. Nathan MacKinnon was assessed his first NHL fighting major when he exchanged punches with Jonathan Ericsson 44 seconds into the game.

Carolina @ Phoenix 2-1 SO - Elias Lindholm scored the only goal of the shootout and two of the Coyotes' three shooters hit the post, enabling the Hurricanes to end a three-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory. Lessio deked Ward and had him beaten, but the puck rolled on him and he hit the right post. Gagner lost control of the puck as he prepared to shoot and essentially rolled a shot into Ward's pads. Vermette ended the game when he drilled the same post Lessio hit. Lindholm made a deke that drew Mike Smith out of position and slid the puck into the net on the Hurricanes' first attempt in the tiebreaker. The Hurricanes played almost the entire game with five defenseman. Ryan Murphy took a stick to the face from Lauri Korpikoski midway through the first period and appeared to get his left knee twisted on the way down. He was helped off the ice and did not return. Korpikoski was assessed a double minor for high sticking, but the Hurricanes couldn't capitalize. The teams traded goals in the first 6:38 of the opening period. Carolina pounced on a few Coyote turnovers early and took the lead 1:03 after the opening faceoff. Ron Hainsey put a shot on net from the left circle that Rask was able to deflect past Smith from just outside the crease at the left post. Keith Yandle wasn't able to convert Kyle Chipchura's centering pass, but he ran down the loose puck and fed Moss in the slot. Jeff Skinner got his stick on the shot, but it had enough left to flutter over Ward's stick at 6:38. Smith made a nice save on Andrej Nestrasil early in the third period and Ward matched him by stopping Brendan Shinnimin with 11:26 left and Korpikoski and Vermette in the final 1:30 of regulation. Carolina had the best scoring chance in overtime, but Smith robbed Justin Faulk by stretching far to the left post to make a skate save with 1:45 left.
