ENL - Whitley Warriors @ Solway Sharks - Saturday, January 23, 2016

Match Report by Warriors Correspondent Bobby Dixon
I travelled up to Solway saturday not knowing what to expect from the game, but I needn't of worried as the lads put on a superb display to down the Sharks 2-1, we haven't done that well in that barn over the years so it was a really good feeling to get the win.
On a personal note I'd like to thank Graham Robson from the Sharks organisation for inviting me and 3 others to be his guest on the night, the tickets were greatly appreciated.
We started the game very strong and pressed hard on the Sharks net and we were rewarded after 5 minutes by a superb goal from Longstaff, Barnes fed the puck to him behind the net and Lobby scored a superb wrap-around goal, the likes of which haven't been seen since the wrap-around expert Hilton Ruggles donned the Warriors shirt, Solway were playing very well too and it was a very even game throughout, the period ended 1-0 in the Warriors favour, that just showed how close and hard fought the game was with both netminders on top form.

The 2nd period was much of the same both teams pressing hard, especially Solway who were looking to get that equalising goal but they found Richie in superb form for us, just after the half-way marker they did manage to break down our defences, we found it hard to clear our zone and you sense their goal coming and with some neat build up play Fulton passed to Coulter who in turn found Bowie who slotted it past Lawson to tie the game at 1-1, the game was truly end to end and both sides were stretching each other only to Find the last line of defences unbreakable and the period ended 1-1.
The 3rd period couldn't of started any better for the Warriors, after just 48 seconds Dean Holland broke down the right wing and his pass to Adam Reynolds seemed to deflect off his skate but in no way was it a kicking motion and the goal stood much to the annoyance to the Solway netminder and their bench, cue the match of the day theme tune being chanted by the Warriors away support, these 2 teams were giving everything for the cause and it was still a fantastic end to end game. I think Lawson had his best game of the season for  Whitley and he made a load of top drawer saves, some of which he had no right to save.
The game ended 2-1 to the Warriors, it may have been a low scoring affair but what a game to watch, both sides were pretty much on par with each other and it could of gone either way, luckily it went in our favour and it was a massive 2 points to pick up in our quest of play-off qualification.
Man of the match for the Warriors went to Callum Queenan, and for the hosts went to Kieran Hobbins for his efforts in the Sharks net.
The away following last night was in superb numbers and voices, we filled the entire block A and some of our fans had to go and sit behind the goal as the section was full. Well done everyone, you all made it a memorable night.
COME ON YOU WARRIORS.
