Columbus @ NY Islanders 2-5

New York took a 1-0 lead 5:03 into the game on Strome's first goal since Nov. 30, a span of 17 games. Shortly after the Islanders failed to convert on their first power play, Matt Martin let go a shot from the point that Strome redirected behind Forsberg and then poked the puck over the goal line. After successfully killing a four-minute penalty against Fedor Tyutin, the Blue Jackets tied it when Karlsson scored at 10:26 of the first period. Jack Johnson skated into the Islanders zone and let go a slap shot from the left circle that Greiss denied, but Karlsson capitalized on the rebound for his first goal and second point since Nov. 25. But the Islanders quickly restored the lead when Nelson scored 1:34 later. Nelson took a pass from Thomas Hickey and beat Forsberg with a wrist shot from the right circle. Greiss kept the Islanders in front five minutes into the second period when he made a pad save on Kerby Rychel's slap shot from the left circle after the latter got a step ahead of Marek Zidlicky. But the Blue Jackets tied it when Savard scored at 13:49 of the second period. Less than two minutes after the Islanders killed a penalty against Nick Leddy, Savard raced to a failed clearing attempt around the boards by Hickey and one-timed it from the right point past Greiss for his first goal in 38 games this season. The Islanders again got a one-goal lead when Nelson scored his second goal of the game at 17:29 of the second. Nelson beat Savard to the puck in the neutral zone to start a 2-on-1 and sent a wrist shot from the left circle past Forsberg to make it 3-2.
Strait gave New York its first two-goal lead of the game with 14:26 remaining. Eleven seconds after the Islanders failed to convert on a power play for a fifth time, John Tavares fed Strait at the right point, where his slap shot managed to get between Forsberg's skates to make it 4-2. It was Strait's first goal in 26 games this season. Nelson completed the hat trick with an empty-net goal with 10.8 seconds left. Nikolay Kulemin left the game with 1:18 remaining when Cam Atkinson's stick caught him in the face.

Edmonton @ Phoenix 3-4 OT

Domi had his first NHL hat trick before Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored a power-play goal with 8.9 seconds left in overtime to give the Coyotes a 4-3 win against the Edmonton Oilers at Gila River Arena. Domi scored his first goal since Dec .4 12:37 into the second period, then tied the game with two power-play goals in the third to rally from a 3-1 deficit. During the 3-on-3 overtime the Oilers had the puck more than two minutes with three exhausted Coyotes (Shane Doan, Tobias Rieder and Ekman-Larsson) on the ice. Andrej Sekera slid a puck through the crease and Eberle and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had chances, but Edmonton managed only one shot on goal against Louis Domingue. The Oilers got the only goal of a slow-paced first period, scoring off the rush after an Arizona mistake.
Pouliot pushed the puck past pinching Murphy and sent Eberle away. Eberle found a trailing Draisaitl charging into the slot, and Draisaitl used a late screen from Mark Fayne to beat Domingue to the glove side at 18:43. It was Draisaitl's 10th goal of the season and his first in 15 games. Edmonton's power play snapped their slump at 6:13 of the second period with Klas Dahlbeck in the box for high sticking Rob Klinkhammer. Draisaitl made a pretty saucer pass across the slot and over two sticks to Schultz in the right circle. The defenseman beat Domingue cleanly for his third goal of the season and second in three games.
The Coyotes got one back just over six minutes later, just as Teddy Purcell's high-sticking penalty was expiring. Michael Stone gloved down a high Ekman-Larsson pass and got off a pass that deflected off the stick of Sekera and came to Domi at the left of the net. Domi put the puck under the crossbar to get his team back in the game. Edmonton regained a two-goal lead 1:02 into the third period, 21 seconds after Dahlbeck tripped Iiro Pakarinen. Pouliot camped in front of the net and tipped Schultz's shot past Domingue for his 10th goal. But Domi power play answered at 3:53. With Klinkhammer off for hooking Anthony Duclair, Ekman-Larsson made a pretty move past Schultz before putting a shot on net. Three Coyotes had a whack at the loose puck before Domi pushed it past Nilsson. Domi tied it at 6:54 with another power-play goal. With Eric Gryba in the box, Domi took Mikkel Boedker's pass out high and used Martin Hanzal's screen to pick the top far corner for his 13th goal of the season, triggering a cascade of hats onto the ice.
