Detroit @ NY Islanders 4-2
Brad Richards opened the scoring with a power-play goal 10:57 into the game. With Nelson in the box for hooking, Nikolay Kulemin made an errant clearing attempt from behind the net out front and Richards promptly stuffed it past Halak to give Detroit a 1-0 lead. Nelson tied it at 16:33 of the first period. With the teams at even strength, John Tavares collected the puck near the left boards and found Nelson in the slot, where the latter roofed a shot over Mrazek to make it 1-1. Abdelkader put the Red Wings back in front at 13:29 of the second period. Red Wings forward Dylan Larkin worked his way around Calvin de Haan at New York's blue line and fed Henrik Zetterberg in the slot. Zetterberg faked a shot and fed Abdelkader at the right circle for his first goal in eight games. DeKeyser doubled Detroit's lead 1:11 later after intercepting Brian Strait's pass in the neutral zone. DeKeyser's initial shot hit Strait's skates, but he quickly put the second attempt past Halak to make it 3-1. Mrazek preserved the two-goal lead when he robbed Matt Martin with a glove save with 8:35 remaining. Grabovski got the Islanders within one when he scored his first goal in seven games with 4:48 remaining. Martin sent Grabovski on a breakaway and he beat Mrazek with a wrist shot to make it 3-2. Glendening's empty-net goal sealed it for Detroit with 44.2 seconds remaining.
Boston @ Philadelphia 3-2
Brett Connolly scored with 1:54 remaining to give the Bruins a 3-2 win. Zdeno Chara put a puck on net from the left point that Connolly redirected past Flyers goalie Michal Neuvirth. Replay review upheld the call on the ice that Connolly played the puck with his stick below the crossbar. Bergeron scored a power-play goal from the slot at 5:04 to make it 1-0 when he banged in his rebound after Radko Gudas blocked his first shot. Marchand one-timed a cross-ice pass from Chara from a sharp angle at 17:27 for a power-play goal to make it 2-0. The Flyers had chances to climb back into the game in the second period when they had four power plays in the first 10:57 of the period. But the only time they took advantage of the man-advantages was Simmonds' goal from in front at 3:45 of the second.
Montreal @ Columbus 2-5
It appeared Cam Atkinson's chance to get his third NHL hat trick ended when Blue Jackets teammate Brandon Saad scored into an empty net with a little more than a minute left in the third period. But Atkinson got another chance and buried a goal-mouth feed from Brandon Dubinsky with 25 seconds remaining in a 5-2 win at Nationwide Arena. Brandon Saad broke a 2-2 tie at 9:06 when he put in a rebound of a Justin Falk shot. Saad then scored his 18th goal with 1:12 remaining after Montreal goaltender Mike Condon (20 saves) was pulled for the extra attacker. Atkinson's goal came with Condon back in net.
Atkinson scored at 2:52 on a backhand from the right faceoff dot that Condon stabbed at with his glove for the 2-1 lead. Subban played his 255th consecutive regular-season game, scored his fourth goal on a slap shot from between the red and blue lines at 8:36 against rookie goaltender Joonas Korpisalo, who made 32 saves. Montreal went ahead 1-0 at 10:39 of the first period on Gallagher's first goal in eight games during a Canadiens power play when he banked a shot off Jack Johnson. Atkinson tied it 4:01 later with his first of the night.
Buffalo @ NY Rangers 3-6
The Rangers had a lapse for less than two minutes early in the third period when Zemgus Girgensons scored two goals in a span of 73 seconds to tie the game at 3-3 with 14:16 to play. Rookie center Jack Eichel had assists on each of the goals. The Rangers responded with goals from Miller at even strength and Zuccarello on the power play in a span of 2:39 to regain a two-goal lead at 5-3 with 10:37 remaining. Brassard had assists on each of the goals before capping the scoring with an empty net goal at 19:24. He opened the scoring in a six-goal third period by giving the Rangers a 3-1 lead at 1:06. He also had an assist on McIlrath's goal at 5:58 of the first period.
