Edmonton @ Buffalo 3-2 - Boyd Gordon scored with 4:15 remaining to give the Oilers a 3-2 victory against the Buffalo Sabres. Gordon took a pass from Teddy Purcell and beat Sabres goalie Michal Neuvirth as he fell to the ice for his second goal of the season. Purcell was free to gain the zone after a pass from Matt Hendricks. The Sabres' defense flowed to Purcell and left Gordon alone to the right of Neuvirth. The Oilers scored two goals after forward Drew Stafford gave the Sabres a 2-1 lead 6:34 into the third period with his third goal of the season. Stafford carried into the Oilers zone, made a move to get around defenseman Martin Marincin and snapped a wrist shot over the right shoulder of goalie Viktor Fasth. Oilers forward Mark Arcobello tied it 2-2 with his third goal of the season. Arcobello scored his second goal in as many games when he snapped a shot over the glove hand of Neuvirth at 11:42. Arcobello was set up when he grabbed a loose puck from David Perron and fought off Sabres defenseman Andre Benoit in the slot. Forward Matt Moulson gave the Sabres a 1-0 lead 26 seconds into the second period. Brian Gionta hit Moulson with a pass from behind the net, and Moulson snapped a shot past Fasth for his first goal of the season. The Oilers tied the game 54 seconds later when rookie forward Iiro Pakarinen scored his first NHL goal in his second game. Pakarinen fired the rebound of Mark Fayne's shot from the point past Neuvirth. Buffalo forward Tyler Ennis was assessed a game misconduct at the final buzzer when he appeared to make contact with linesman Derek Nansen with his stick.
Columbus @ Carolina 2-3 OT - Elias Lindholm scored a power-play goal with 37.8 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Hurricanes a come-from-behind 3-2 win. With Blue Jackets defenseman David Savard in the penalty box for holding, Lindholm snapped a shot past goaltender Curtis McElhinney from the right circle. Carolina opened the scoring in the second period on an unassisted goal by Jeff Skinner. He stole the puck from Dalton Prout near the Columbus net and slipped across the top of the crease to score on a backhand at 2:43. Columbus countered with two goals from Scott Hartnell. Boone Jenner stickhandled around Jay McClement and connected with Hartnell in the low slot at 11:15. Hartnell scored again with 1:16 remaining in the period. Jenner powered past McClement and pushed a shot on net before Hartnell scored on the rebound to give Columbus a 2-1 lead. Hurricanes rookie Victor Rask tied the game 2-2 at 11:51 of the third period when he stickhandled from the goal line to the top of the circle and fired a high shot that beat McElhinney.
New Jersey @ Detroit 2-4 - Kindl tied the game with a power-play goal with 1:05 left in the second period. His shot from the right point deflected a couple of times, the last off the stick of Devils defenseman Adam Larsson, which was in the air. It was Kindl's second power-play goal in two games. Smith's first goal of the season made it 2-1 with 32 seconds left; it was a seeing-eye shot from the high slot. Franzen's power-play goal with 8:19 left in the second period increased the lead to 3-1. He beat Schneider high on the short side with a wrist shot from the right circle. Kronwall made it 4-1 with 2:21 remaining in the period. His shot from the right point went wide, bounced off the end boards and caromed in off the back of Schneider's pad. Tootoo made it 4-2, 2:26 into the third period when he shot a loose puck from the bottom of the left circle. It was the first goal of the season for Tootoo, a former Red Wings player who returned to the lineup after missing seven games with a foot injury. Bernier opened the scoring 3:18 into the first period when he slid in a loose puck from in front of Howard. It was Bernier's first goal of the season. Red Wings center Pavel Datsyuk was a late scratch because of a groin injury.
Washington @ Chicago 3-2 - A pretty goal at 15:03 of the second period by Andrew Burakovsky started the comeback. Marcus Johansson and Joel Ward scored in the last minute of the period, and the Blackhawks couldn't respond. Chicago took a 2-0 lead on goals by Brandon Saad at 17:12 of the first period and Duncan Keith on a power play 56 seconds into the second. Burakovsky scored off a 2-on-1 rush created when Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook got caught pinching too far in the offensive zone.Johansson tied it 2-2 at 19:13 from the right circle after a fortunate bounce from a whiffed shot by Capitals defenseman Matt Niskanen put the puck on his stick. Johansson wheeled around near the right dot and sent a wrist shot toward the net that deflected off Seabrook's stick into a wide opening on the back side.
Ward scored 42 seconds later, tipping a point shot by Niskanen past Crawford with 4.4 seconds left. Washington did a good job suppressing Chicago's attack for most of the third period and then staved off a rally by the Blackhawks in the last couple minutes. Holtby made six saves in the final 2:33, including a rush down the right wing by Saad and slap shots by Keith and Brad Richards in the last 20 seconds. Keith's shot sailed through traffic and hit Holtby's pads with five seconds remaining, the final shot of the game.
Phoenix @ Anaheim 3-2 SO - Sam Gagner lifted a backhander past Sucks goalie Frederik Andersen and Boedker deked and scored on a snap shot. Smith, who made 37 saves through overtime, stopped Devante Smith-Pelly and made Ryan Kesler miss to seal Phoenix's third straight win and complete a comeback from a an early two-goal deficit. It was a missed opportunity and another health concern for the Sucks, who got captain Ryan Getzbald back from a bout with flu-like symptoms but defenseman Cam Fowler left the game with a lower-body injury after he played five shifts in the third. Anaheim coach Bruce Boudreau said Fowler is day-to-day. Anaheim came agonizingly close to scoring in the third period. Andrew Cogliano shot wide on a late-developing 2-on-0 pass from William Karlsson. The Sucks got three power plays but couldn't convert despite some good looks each time. Anaheim's normally high-powered offense has scored more than two goals once in the past seven games. Phoenix erased a 2-0 deficit with two goals in 58 seconds early in the second period. Rob Klinkhammer tipped in Martin Hanzal's pass at 3:55 after the Coyotes hemmed in the Sucks. Shane Doan scored on a wrist shot from the left side to finish a rush at 4:53, a goal that prompted Boudreau to call his timeout and chastise his team's lackadaisical backcheck. It was Doan's 33rd career goal against the Sucks, which moved him past Brett Hull for the most scored against Anaheim.
Matt Beleskey gave Anaheim a 2-0 lead when he bumped Coyotes defenseman Connor Murphy off the puck at the half wall and headed to the net to chip in Jakob Silfverberg's rebound at 8:49 of the first period. Beleskey has seven goals, two shy of his total in 55 games last season and four shy of his career-high 11 in 2009-10. Getzbald scored a goal in his return, but linemate and NHL goal-scoring leader Corey Perry missed his second game with the same illness.
Getzbald showed he was in fine health with his fourth goal this season 5:02 into the game, a one-timer from his knee on the power play after Sami Vatanen made a pass while falling forward.
After being swept in a five game regular season series last year Phoenix finally managed to record a win over Anaheim. With a lot of dirty hits by the Sucks in one of those games, it feels like a sweet victory indeed. So to quote a Norwegian Football Commentator (well kind of) 'Bruce Boudreau, Corey Perry, Ryan Getzbald, Ryan Palmieri, Craig Dickinson, can you hear me Craig Dickinson, your boys took one hell of a beating'
