Tampa Bay @ NY Islanders 2-5 - The Lightning led 1-0 and began the period on a power play. But Clutterbuck picked off a pass by Anton Stralman outside the Lightning blue line, raced into the right circle and fired a high shot from the faceoff dot that beat Nabokov to get the Islanders even. The Lightning were also reduced to 11 forwards when Cedric Paquette left in the first period because of a lower-body injury and didn't return. The Lightning killed off 67 seconds of a 5-on-3 Islanders power play before taking the lead at 11:53 of the first period. Halak stopped Jason Garrison's shot from the left point and denied Killorn on the rebound. But Killorn was able to get another whack at the puck and slipped it through Halak's legs and into the net for his fourth goal of the season and second in as many nights. The Lightning started the second period with 1:53 of power-play time, but the Islanders tied the game on Clutterbuck's goal, his second of the season and New York's third while playing shorthanded. Grabovski put the Islanders ahead for the first time at 12:23 with one of the easiest goals he'll ever score. Kyle Okposo got the puck to Frans Nielsen, who faked a shot, drew the defense and Nabokov toward him and fed Grabovski in the lower right circle. Grabovski put the puck into a vacated net for his fourth of the season.
It became 3-1 at 13:26 when Strome took a pass from Calvin de Haan in the high slot; with Josh Bailey setting a screen, Strome's wrist shot hit the stick of a Lightning defenseman and sailed past Nabokov for his third goal of the season. Nelson deflected Lubomir Visnovsky's straightaway 55-foot slap shot past Nabokov 36 seconds into the third period for a power-play goal and a 4-1 lead. Palat scored at 2:14, but Cizikas roofed a breakaway at 8:55 to restore New York's three-goal margin. Nabokov got some applause when his name was announced as the Lightning's starter, and fans broke into a chant of "Nabby" after play resumed following Cizikas' goal.
Detroit @ Columbus 5-0 - The Blue Jackets might dispute that Howard had a shutout at all. After Tatar gave Detroit a 1-0 lead, Columbus used the first power play of the game to temporarily get even with 1:42 remaining in the first period. Boone Jenner skated out of the left corner and powered his way toward the crease. Draped by Detroit defenseman Niklas Kronwall, Jenner was falling to the ice but stuck his leg out and knocked the puck past Howard with his skate. The Red Wings made it 2-0 on Nyquist's power-play goal 1:44 into the second period. His ninth goal came off a lengthy rebound that Columbus goalie Sergei Bobrovsky stopped with his left pad but was unable to corral. Detroit put the game away when Johansen was goaded into a roughing penalty on Kyle Quincy and Jurco scored eight seconds later off a Detroit faceoff win at 4:49 of the third period. Darren Helm scored his second of the season with 61 seconds left.
Nashville @ Toronto 9-2 - Taylor Beck scored for the Predators 1:52 into the game, his second goal of the season. Beck, a right shot, broke to the net on the right wing and managed to snap a shot past Toronto goalie Jonathan Bernier on the far side of the net from a sharp angle. Derek Roy scored his first goal with the Predators at 10:14 to make it 2-0 when he jammed a centering pass from Matt Cullen behind Bernier. With Toronto defenseman Roman Polak off for concealing the puck, Beck scored his second goal of the game at 16:49. Standing in front of the Maple Leafs net with his back to Bernier, he swatted the puck between his legs into the net. Beck also had an assist for a three-point game. James Reimer replaced Bernier in Toronto's net to start the second period; Nazem Kadri was moved up to center the top line between Phil Kessel and James van Riemsdyk; and Tyler Bozak was dropped down a line between Daniel Winnik and Mike Santorelli. The Predators led 4-0 at 18:45 with Eric Nystrom scoring his third goal of the season. He broke in 2-on-1 with Olli Jokinen and elected to shoot, beating Reimer to the far side of the net.
Toronto's Peter Holland attempted to flip the puck out of the Maple Leafs end in the first minute of the third period only to have it picked off by Nashville defenseman Ryan Ellis, who took a slap shot that Mike Ribeiro tipped past Reimer to make it 5-0 at 53 seconds. Thirty-three seconds later, a shot went off Forsberg past Reimer, but the goal was waved off. It was ruled to have been kicked in, but after a review the goal was ruled to have been deflected in with a skate and the Predators led 6-0. Calle Jarnkrok scored his first of the season at 3:06 from in tight to make it 7-0, and 2:08 later the Predators scored again with Roman Josi getting his third of the season. Toronto's Mike Santorelli scored his third of the season at 8:18, and 2:15 later Nazem Kadri tipped home a Dion Phaneuf shot from the point to make it 8-2. Nashville's Colin Wilson capped the scoring at 17:28 with his second of the season.
New Jersey @ Winnipeg 1-3 - The Jets grabbed a 2-0 lead with goals 1:44 apart early in the second period. Perreault backhanded a shot high over Schneider at 1:54, and Scheifele shoved a rebound under the Devils goalie at 3:38 for his third goal of the season. New Jersey used the power play, which had one goal in 21 attempts in its past eight games, to halve Winnipeg's lead 1:13 into the third period when Elias squeezed a shot under Hutchinson for his second goal of the season. The goal broke a 17-game goalless streak for Elias, who hadn't scored since Oct. 9. But when the Devils threatened in the third period, the Jets did not panic. Frolik put the Jets back ahead by two goals with 3:53 left in the game, beating Schneider off a cross-ice feed for his fourth goal.
Anaheim @ Calgary 3-4 SO - Sean Monahan scored the shootout winner and Jonas Hiller made 24 saves against his former club to lead the Flames to a 4-3 win. Monahan picked up the puck before shifting into the Sucks zone and snapping a shot that beat Anaheim goalie Frederik Andersen's low blocker to put the Flames up in the third round of the shootout. With the Sucks shooting second, Corey Perry couldn't beat Hiller. The former Anaheim goalie was happy to best his former team. Extra time was needed after a wild third period that saw the Flames overcome a 2-0 deficit before giving up a late lead. After TJ Brodie failed to connect on a cross-crease pass to Markus Granlund, Jiri Hudler scooped up the puck in the high slot and lifted a shot over a downed Andersen to cut the lead to 2-1 at 3:25. The goal came on Calgary's 10th shot. Dennis Wideman completed the comeback on Calgary's 13th shot, stepping into a drop pass from Granlund and firing it over the shoulder of Andersen to tie the game 2-2 at 9:03. It took Wideman fewer than five minutes and another one-timer to give Calgary its first lead of the game, this time stepping into a Johnny Gaudreau pass that knuckled over Andersen to make it 3-2. Kyle Palmieri replied on the power play with 4:55 remaining. With Josh Jooris off for tripping, Palmieri spun off the goal line and jammed a puck at Hiller, who made the initial stop but couldn't track the rebound that floated up and over the goal line to tie the game 3-3. Sami Vatanen put the Sucks on the board first to kick off a dominant 40 minutes that saw Anaheim give up seven shots. After taking a pass back at the point from Jakob Silfverberg, Vatanen faked a shot to avoid a diving Sven Baertschi and took a stride in before firing a shot that clipped the stick of Flames defenseman Raphael Diaz and went between Hiller's legs to give Anaheim a 1-0 lead at 15:54 of the first period. After facing four shots in the first, Andersen saw three in the second. He watched as Matt Beleskey gave Anaheim a two-goal cushion. With Wideman in the penalty box for tripping, Beleskey knocked a high point shot from Hampus Lindholm between Hiller's legs to put the Sucks up 2-0 at 12:29. Prior to puck drop, Calgary honored Hall of Fame broadcaster Peter Maher. Maher's career spanned over four decades and he was voice of the Flames since the 1981-82 season calling 2,954 Flames games. He was honored as the winner of the 2006 Foster Hewett Memorial Award by the Hockey Hall of Fame and has called World Championship games, six NHL All-Star games, the Stanley Cup Finals in 1980, 1986, 1989 and 2004 and the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Washington @ Phoenix 2-1 OT - Eric Fehr pushed home the rebound of a Brooks Orpik shot 3:16 into overtime to lift the Capitals to a 2-1 win at Gila River Arena. Oliver Ekman-Larsson tied it for the Coyotes in the second period, when they outshot the Capitals 10-2 and had most of their scoring chances. Phoenix played without injured defenseman Brandon Gormley and forwards Rob Klinkhammer and Martin Hanzal, who was a late scratch because of a lower-body injury sustained during warmups. The Capitals broke out on top when Coyotes defenseman Chris Summers missed the net on a slap shot from the point, starting Washington on a 3-on-2 rush the other way. Jason Chimera dropped a pass to Beagle, who used Summers as a screen and beat Smith over the blocker with a wrist shot from the slot at 11:11. It was Beagle's second goal; he has two in his past five games after going without a goal over his first eight. The second period was all Phoenix. The Coyotes were strong in finishing a power play that carried over from the first period and rode the momentum to the game-tying goal. Sam Gagner had his stick tied up by Nicklas Backstrom on the rush, but he was able to get off a spinning no-look pass that crossed the slot and found a wide-open Ekman-Larsson in the left faceoff circle. Ekman-Larsson buried his third goal into a half-empty net at 2:00 to make it 1-1. The Coyotes had several good scoring chances on their power plays, but Holtby stopped Mikkel Boedker twice and Shane Doan once to keep it even. The Capitals took over in the third, with their best chance to score coming with seven minutes left. John Carlson's shot from the point hit the skate of Coyotes defenseman Zbynek Michalek and got behind Smith. But as it trickled toward the goal line, Michalek swept the puck away with his stick, allowing his team to collect at least a point.
Florida @ Los Angeles 2-5 - Regehr made it 4-0 with a shot that beat Panthers goal Roberto Luongo far side at 19:52 of the second. It was his first goal since Feb.26. Greene redirected a pass from Brayden McNabb at 4:32 of the second to end a 47-game goal-scoring drought dating to his most-recent goal on Oct.19, 2013. Regehr looked almost surprised when the puck went in after Carter created a turnover and found him open in the high slot. Carter one-timed a pass from Dwight King that hit Panthers defenseman Erik Gudbranson on the leg before it went in the net at 9:46 of the second during Vincent Trocheck's double-minor high sticking penalty. Gaborik swiped in the puck from the left side at 14:18 of the second with Derek MacKenzie serving a tripping penalty. Hayes' power-play goal at 2:01 ended an eight-period shutout streak by Los Angeles against Florida, which has been outscored 12-2 in the past three games between these teams.
