Montreal @ Buffalo 2-1 SO - PA Parenteau and Alex Galchenyuk scored in the shootout to give the Canadiens a 2-1 win against the Buffalo Sabres at First Niagara Center. Parenteau was the source of the offense the Canadiens used and had a goal in regulation to go with his shootout winner. His winning goal against the Sabres beat goalie Michal Neuvirth to the glove side and was his third shootout winner of the season. Parenteau opened the scoring with his third goal of the season 19 seconds into the third period. He beat Neuvirth between his legs off a rebound of a P.K. Subban shot. Buffalo's Drew Stafford tied the game 1-1 on the power play at 3:14 of the third. After a boarding penalty to Canadiens forward Jiri Sekac, Stafford took a pass from defenseman Tyler Myers and beat Tokarski on his blocker side for his second goal of the season. Tyler Ennis got his 100th NHL assist. Canadiens forward Michael Bournival left the game with 2:15 remaining in the first period with an upper-body injury and did not return. Bournival was seen leaving the arena with his left arm in a sling.
Detroit @ NY Rangers 3-4 OT - Rangers center Derick Brassard scored a power-play goal 1:50 into overtime off a rebound to give the Rangers a 4-3 win against the Detroit Red Wings at Madison Square Garden. New York's first power-play goal, scored 6:36 into the first period, went in off of Rick Nash's backside. The Red Wings, who were able to get a point because Tomas Tatar scored with 7.7 seconds remaining in regulation, have lost three in a row since a two-game winning streak. Detroit trailed 2-0 before the midway point of the second period, but tied the game on goals by Jakub Kindl and Dan Cleary 16 seconds apart. Cleary was playing his first game since Jan. 28. It was his first goal since Jan. 11. New York took a 3-2 lead with 7:50 remaining in the third period on Lee Stempniak's first goal in 10 games, scored off a 2-on-1 rush with Dominic Moore that was created by a slow line change by Detroit. The Red Wings got an opportunity for a late power play and Tatar made it count. He tied the game on what was essentially a 5-on-3 goal with Rangers defenseman Marc Staal in the box for holding Pavel Datsyuk and Red Wings goalie Jonas Gustavsson on the bench for the extra skater. Andrej Nestrasil slid a pass through the high slot to Tatar, whose one-timer from the right circle beat Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist. Babcock said he didn't understand how the Red Wings didn't get a four-minute power play at 9:34 of the third period, when New York forward Carl Hagelin got his stick up into Detroit defenseman Danny DeKeyser's face, drawing blood. There was no penalty called on the play. Stempniak scored less than three minutes later. The Rangers were on the power play in overtime because Datsyuk was called for tripping Martin St. Louis in the offensive zone. They had three shots on goal during the 4-on-3 before Brassard scored off a shot by Dan Girardi. St. Louis scored his third goal in the past two games, and Nash scored his 10th of the season. He also was in front of the net when Brassard scored the winner. Rangers defenseman Matt Hunwick had an assist on the goals by St. Louis and Nash.
NY Islanders @ Anaheim 3-2 OT - The Sucks were missing stars Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry going into the game because of flu symptoms. John Tavares scored his second goal of the game at 2:18 of overtime to give the Islanders a 3-2 win. Tavares' game-winner came on the power play with Sucks defenseman Sami Vatanen in the penalty box for elbowing. Tavares shot the puck from the high slot, and it appeared to hit Sucks center Ryan Kesler's stick before dipping through goalie Jason LaBarbera's pads for his sixth goal. The Sucks outshot the Islanders 29-17 over the final 37 minutes of regulation and overtime, and they had several quality chances in the third period, including Kesler's missed shot from the slot. Boudreau said he would have scratched Emerson Etem and Rickard Rakell if Getzlaf and Perry were healthy, and Etem helped Anaheim erase a 2-0 deficit. Boudreau wouldn't say what he told the Ducks at first intermission, but Anaheim came alive in the second period and got goals by Matt Beleskey and Etem to tie it 2-2 going into the third. Beleskey tapped in Kesler's pass in the crease for a power-play goal at 9:15. Etem swiped in a loose puck in the high slot with Devante Smith-Pelly screening Islanders goalie Jaroslav Halak at 18:51 for his first goal this season and first since Feb.8.
Anaheim outshot New York 12-0 during a six-minute stretch in the second. Okposo put the Islanders ahead 2-0 when he beat LaBarbera with a wrist shot to the blocker side on the first shot of the second period. The Sucks looked out of sync to start, and the Islanders took advantage when Tavares scored on a one-timer off a big rebound given up by LaBarbera on Calvin de Haan's shot from the left side 3:38 into the game. Anaheim was outshot 12-4 in the first period and 19-5 through the first 27 minutes.
