Sergei Bobrovsky made 41 saves and Boone Jenner and Ryan Murray scored 29 seconds apart late in the second period to lift the Blue Jackets to a 5-2 victory against the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center. Jones gave up four goals on 21 shots and was pulled for backup Alex Stalock after the second period. Brandon Saad and Hartnell scored for the Blue Jackets, who are 3-3-0 under coach John Tortorella. The Blue Jackets defeated San Jose for the third straight time and are 7-1-1 against the Sharks in the past nine games. Bobrovsky earned his third win of the season. He was pulled after allowing three goals on 11 shots in the first period of the Blue Jackets' 3-2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday. Joe Pavelski scored two goals for the Sharks (6-6-0), who have gone 2-6-0 since opening the season with four straight wins. Pavelski extended his goal streak to a career-high five games and has six goals during that span. He had his 37th career multi-goal game and has a team-high eight goals this season. The Sharks went 0-for-4 on the power play and are 0-for-13 with the man-advantage at home this season. The Sharks, who were outshot 12-4 over the first 12 minutes.

Goals

* Saad gave the Blue Jackets a 1-0 at 6:11 of the first period, scoring on the power play with Brenden Dillon in the penalty box for holding. Jones stopped Brandon Dubinsky's hard shot but couldn't control the puck, and Saad scored from close range.
* The Sharks pulled even at 18:56 in the opening period when Justin Braun let go a shot from the blue line and Pavelski redirected it from the slot past Bobrovsky.
* Columbus regained the lead at 2-1 at 8:54 of the second period on Hartnell's fifth goal of the season. He skated behind the net, spun and put the puck past Jones from the right circle.
* Pavelski answered with his second goal of the game at 11:56 of the second period, taking a pass from rookie Joonas Donskoi and beating Bobrovsky from close range. Donskoi forced a turnover along the boards and sent the puck ahead to Pavelski for his first NHL assist.
* Jenner gave Columbus a 3-2 lead at 18:32 of the second with his team-high seventh goal of the season. He beat Sharks goalie Martin Jones from close range through the five-hole after taking a pass from Scott Hartnell, who won a battle against Sharks defenseman Brent Burns for the puck behind the net. Jones had also gone after the puck but couldn't clear it and had to scramble to get back in the crease.
* Murray made it 4-2 at 19:01, sending a shot from the high slot through traffic for his second goal of the season.
* Matt Calvert scored an empty-net goal at 18:21 of the third period for Columbus.

Sharks Bites

Martin Jones: "[The performance] Not good enough, obviously.We give up an early goal, a couple soft ones in the second. We need to be better. Everyone needs to be better. I thought we got outworked tonight."
Joe Pavelski: "For our power play we demand a lot out of ourselves. It's just unacceptable. We have to break this mould. We have to start finishing. A couple bad bounces at the end of the second. We have to work to have those go our way. We had somewhat of a push. There's really not much for us to do but start winning."

Opposition View

Ryan Murray: "Anytime you get a goal at the end of the period, it's huge. It gives us momentum for the next period. You get to go into the dressing room with a really good feeling. Getting two is a bonus."
John Tortorella: "I thought we started really well. When we were up 4-2 we knew they were going to push. We knew they were going to throw everything at us. We blocked shots. We did a lot of good things, and that's what we're trying to get to. We're trying to come into buildings, away or home, and just have that type of strut about you as an individual and a team. If you win a game like this it adds to it, and I thought they had that right from the start."
Brandon Saad: "I think tonight was our best game of the year. All around, you look down the lineup, everyone brought their 'A' game tonight. We did a good job of playing a full 60 and everyone contributing. It's fun playing that way. So we've got to remember this feeling and keep it going."
