NY Islanders @ New Jersey 2-3 SO
The Islanders got special-teams goals from Anders Lee (power play) and Frans Nielsen (shorthanded) in the second period after falling behind 2-0 on the goals by Moore and Farnham. Farnham helped the Devils get off to a strong start with his first two NHL points, including a goal. He was claimed off waivers from the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday and put into the lineup because forward Jiri Tlusty has an upper-body injury. Farnham had the secondary assist on Moore's goal at 2:51 of the first period and scored on a one-timer from the left circle at 14:36. Farnham played for Hynes the past three seasons with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League. He had 39 points and 666 penalty minutes in 191 games under Hynes in the AHL.

Detroit @ Ottawa 5-3
Tatar gave the Red Wings a 1-0 lead at 12:55 of the first period. With Ottawa defenseman Cody Ceci in the penalty box for slashing, Tatar got the puck in the left-wing circle. Justin Abdelkader provided a screen in front of Anderson, and Tatar found the net to Anderson's right for his third goal of the season. With Ottawa's Chris Neil in the penalty box for interference, Nyquist scored his fifth of the season at 5:29 of the second period when he deflected Zetterberg's hard pass in the slot. Kyle Turris scored his seventh goal of the season and the 100th of his NHL career to make it 2-1 at 13:36 of the second period. Ericsson scored at 18:05 of the second period after the Red Wings won an offensive-zone faceoff. Larkin showed his good speed to get around Karlsson and scored on a wraparound 39 seconds into the third, and DeKeyser scored off an odd-man rush at 5:35 to make it 5-1. Larkin's goal turned out to be the game-winner, the first in the League for the 19-year-old rookie, after Stone scored off a turnover at 15:51 of the third and Bobby Ryan scored his fourth of the season with 1:09 left to make it 5-3.

Boston @ Tampa Bay 3-1

Brett Connolly scored a tiebreaking goal 5:54 into the third period. Connolly took a pass from Marchand in the slot and waited for Lightning goalie Ben Bishop to commit to a save position before placing a wrist shot high on the stick side to give the Bruins a 2-1 lead. The Lightning took a 1-0 lead at 7:51 in the first period with a power-play goal by Nikita Kucherov, his third goal of the season. Vladislav Namestnikov pushed the puck into the zone to start a 3-on-2 and dropped a pass to Kucherov, who scored on a wrist shot that went above the stick of Bruins goalie Jonas Gustavsson. Boston tied the game 1-1 at 16:53 of the first period, when Beleskey shot past Bishop while spinning on his knee. Colin Miller and Jimmy Hayes had the assists on Beleskey's second goal of the season. Dirty Dog Marchand scored an empty-net goal with 1:10 remaining. Gustavsson made 21 saves and is 3-0-0 backing up Tuukka Rask.

Washington @ Florida 2-1 OT

Evgeny Kuznetsov scored at 3:44 of overtime to give the Capitals a 2-1 victory.
After an icing call against the Panthers, Washington won the draw and Kuznetsov took a pass from Alex Ovechkin. He spun to his left to get away from Florida defenseman Brian Campbell and cut toward the net before beating goaltender Al Montoya to the short side for his fifth goal of the season.
Jussi Jokinen had a second-period goal and Montoya made 25 saves for Florida. Jay Beagle tied the game early in the third for Washington, and rookie goaltender Philipp Grubauer made 26 saves. At 8-2-0, the Capitals have matched the 1991-92 and 2011-12 teams for the best 10-game start in franchise history. They also moved into first place in the Metropolitan Division. Washington and the New York Rangers each have 16 points, but the Capitals have a game in hand. They play Tuesday at Madison Square Garden. Florida was without its top scorer, Jaromir Jagr, for the second straight game. He hasn't played since leaving Florida's 4-1 win against the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday because of a lower-body injury.

The Panthers had the better of play in the scoreless first period, outshooting the Capitals 10-5 and drawing the only two power plays. Each goaltender came up big in the final minute; Montoya denied Washington defenseman John Carlson at the right post with 29 seconds left, and Grubauer denied Reilly Smith from the left circle 10 seconds later. Florida went ahead 2:47 into the second period, five seconds after Eric Gudbranson's holding penalty expired. Defenseman Alex Petrovic blocked Ovechkin's shot and the puck caromed to Dave Bolland, who led a 2-on-1 break. He slid the puck to Jokinen, who didn't play the pass cleanly but then batted the airborne puck behind Grubauer at 2:47 for his third of the season. The Panthers continued to carry the play, but Nick Bjugstad was wide with a backhander at 5:30 and Grubauer robbed Pirri from point-blank range after a steal less than two minutes later. Montoya made the best of his nine second-period saves with four minutes left when he used his glove to stop Brooks Laich's backhand shot from just outside the crease. The Capitals tied the game 2:23 into the third period when Beagle nudged the carom of Ovechkin's blocked shot into the net for his second goal of the season. Gallant challenged the call on the ice, contending that Justin Williams had interfered with Montoya in the crease, but the goal stood.
Evgeny Kuznetsov: "It wasn't our best game, but we got the two points. We have to play better."

Calgary @ Edmonton 5-4

Michael Frolik scored with 8.7 seconds left to give Calgary a 5-4 victory against the Oilers, ending the Flames' four-game losing streak. Frolik, signed as a free agent during the summer, broke a 4-4 tie when his bad-angled shot from the left corner banked into the net off Oilers goaltender Cam Talbot. Frolik entered the night with 26 shots, but no goals. Edmonton had battled back from three separate two-goal deficits to tie the game, which appeared headed into overtime before Frolik's goal. Defenseman T.J. Brodie had a goal and an assist and Brandon Bollig also scored for Calgary. Goaltender Karri Ramo, recalled from Stockton of the American Hockey League on Thursday after being waived earlier this month, made 19 saves. Taylor Hall, Brandon Davidson, Teddy Purcell and Leon Draisaitl scored for Edmonton, which trailed 2-0, 3-1 and 4-2. Talbot made 27 saves. Bollig scored on the Flames' first shot of the game at 1:58, tipping Brodie's point shot past Talbot for his first goal of the season for a 1-0 lead.
Frolik put Calgary up 2-0 at 11:34, capitalizing on a mistake by Talbot behind the Oilers net. Talbot came out to play the puck and inadvertently kicked it to Stajan, who found Frolik in front of an open net. Hall scored at 13:15 to cut the lead to 2-1, tipping a shot from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins past Ramo on the power play.
Frolik gave Calgary a 3-1 lead at 17:27 when a shot by defenseman Kris Russell hit his skate and deflected into the net. Edmonton believed it had cut the Flames' lead to 3-2 on a goal from Benoit Pouliot at 4:12 of the second period after the Oilers left wing put in the rebound of a shot by Mark Letestu. But Hartley challenged the goal due to goaltender interference and won; Letestu was ruled to have interfered with Ramo, and the goal was waved off. Davidson cut the lead to 3-2 with a power-play goal at 10:38, stepping into a point shot that sailed over the shoulder of Ramo. Brodie put Calgary up 4-2 at 16:30 with a power-play goal, taking a pass in the slot from center Sam Bennett and snapping a shot past Talbot. Purcell scored a power-play goal 48 seconds into the third period to cut the Flames' lead to 4-3. Nugent-Hopkins attempted a centering pass that went off a skate and right to Purcell, who fired a shot past Ramo. Calgary had a goal waved off at 6:15, when right wing David Jones was ruled to have interfered with Talbot on a point shot from Brodie. The Flames challenged the call, but upon review, it stood and the goal did not count. Draisaitl tied the game 35 seconds later, taking a cross-ice pass from Hall on a rush and beating Ramo.
