NHL - Results - November 11-12, 2015

Wednesday, November 11
Edmonton @ Anaheim 4-3 OT
Teddy Purcell scored 1:16 into overtime to give the Oilers a 4-3 win. The Oilers battled back three times to tie and force overtime. Anaheim and Edmonton combined to score four goals in the third period with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins tying the game 3-3 at 8:19. In overtime, it was a move by Oilers goalie Anders Nilsson that led to Purcell's goal. Nilsson made a smart play to not cover the puck for a whistle, allowing Andrej Sekera to get the puck down the ice to Purcell, who skated past Rickard Rakell and put a backhand shot past Frederik Andersen. Perry scored on the power play in the first period and again in the third for No. 300. With the game tied at 2-2, Rakell found Perry left alone in the slot and beat Nilsson high with the backhand at 6:44 of the third. His first goal came at 10:09 of the first period off the skate of Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse to give the Ducks a 1-0 lead. Edmonton tied the game at 4:23 in the second period when Leon Draisaitl one-timed Benoit Pouliot's cross-ice feed past Andersen on the power play.

Thursday, November 12
Washington @ Philadelphia 5-2

Alex Ovechkin must wait at least another day to set the record for most goals by a Russian in NHL history after an apparent goal was overturned in the second period. He remains tied with Hockey Hall of Fame member Sergei Fedorov at 483 goals. Washington scored three times in the second period, including goals 45 seconds apart by Chimera and Williams, to take a 4-2 lead. With Flyers forward Michael Raffl [A Flyers player taking a penalty, go figure eh?] in the penalty box for cross-checking, Chimera controlled a pass from Evgeny Kuznetsov down the middle of the ice before chipping the puck past Mason at 9:54 to pull the Capitals into a 2-2 tie. Williams knocked in a loose puck from the slot at 10:39 to give Washington a 3-2 lead. Chimera scored his second of the game, fifth of the season, on a deflection at 17:27 to make it 4-2. Ovechkin thought he passed Fedorov when he beat Mason on the power play with 38 seconds left in the second. Flyers coach Dave Hakstol used a challenge for the first time this season, and the goal was overturned after video replay showed that Williams was inside the blue line before Chimera skated the puck into the zone. It was the second time in three games Ovechkin had a goal disallowed following a coach's challenge in which Williams was the culprit. What would have been career goal No. 484 was overturned for goalie interference by Williams in a 3-2 shootout victory against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday. Giroux gave the Flyers a 2-1 lead when he scored a power-play goal 1:07 into the second. He took a pass from Wayne Simmonds along the left-wing boards and beat Holtby on his left glove side with a shot from the far hash marks for his fifth goal. Oshie scored his fifth goal 10:35 into the first to pull the Capitals into a 1-1 tie. Kuznetsov set up Oshie when he made a behind-the-back pass off his forehand just before curling the net at the right post. Laughton scored his third goal 3:34 into the first to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead. The Flyers had just two shots on goal on their power plays.

Yeah looks about right for the Flyers.

Vancouver @ Ottawa 2-3
The Senators went ahead 2-1 on Karlsson's second goal at 14:00 of the second period. Center Kyle Turris spotted an open Karlsson coming in from the point after he retrieved the puck along the left-wing boards following a shot by Mark Stone that went wide. Wideman put the Senators ahead 3-1 when he scored on the power play with 1:55 left in the third period. Edler scored his fourth goal with 24 seconds remaining with the Canucks on the man-advantage to make it 3-2. The Senators tied the game 1-1 at 13:02 of the first period on the power play. With Adam Cracknell in the penalty box for tripping, Karlsson took the puck deep along the right wing and then snapped a pass out into the high slot to Ryan. With Milan Michalek and Christopher Tanev jostling in front of the net, Ryan's shot found its way by Miller for his sixth goal. The Canucks opened the scoring on Baertschi's second goal at 7:48 of the first. A shot by Radim Vrbata went in off Baertschi, who was going to the net with Wideman defending.
Calgary @ Tampa Bay 1-3
Steven Stamkos scored the go-ahead goal with 7:09 remaining in the third period. Stamkos broke a 1-1 tie when he scored his ninth goal. With the Lightning on a power play, Alex Killorn got hold of a loose puck that Johnson couldn't control and found Stamkos in the slot for a one-timer past Ramo.
Johnson gave the Lightning some insurance with 1:33 remaining. Nikita Kucherov set up the play with a fake shot that forced Ramo to commit, then slipped the puck to Johnson in the lower left circle for a shot into a wide-open net. The Lightning took a 1-0 lead at 1:59 in the second period on Boyle's third goal of the season. Braydon Coburn sent a pass to Boyle in the slot, Boyle faked a shot to get Flames defenseman Ladislav Smid to commit to a block attempt and fired a wrist shot past Ramo and inside the far post. Calgary tied the game at 6:45 in the second period when Bennett scored his fourth goal of the season. With the Flames up a man, Bennett redirected a shot from Mikael Backlund that ended up going between Bishop's pads.

Buffalo @ Florida 3-2
Franson gave Buffalo the lead at 18:53 of the second period after the puck remained in the Florida zone for an extended period of time. He scored on a one-timer from the top of the left circle with Marcus Foligno standing right in front of Luongo to make it 2-1. Reinhart added to the lead at 3:38 of the third when he tipped Tyler Ennis' slap shot from the top of the right circle for a power-play goal. Trocheck got the Panthers to within 3-2 with 4:00 left when he tipped Aaron Ekblad's shot from the high slot. Buffalo led 1-0 in the second period when a goal by Ennis was overturned after a coach's challenge by Florida of an offside earlier in the sequence. Huberdeau, Florida's scoring leader last season with 54 points, tied the game at 1-1 at 9:35 with a power-play goal.

He got the puck in front of the net and put it past a sprawling Ullmark. Gionta opened the scoring with 31.5 seconds left in the first period with a wrist shot from the right dot that beat Luongo over the left shoulder. The goal ended a seven-minute span without a shot on goal by either team. Jaromir Jagr, who had an assist on Huberdeau's goal, played in his 1,564 NHL game, tying him with former Detroit Red Wings defenseman and Hall of Famer Nicklas Lidstrom for 10th place on the all-time list. He moved into sole possession of 12th place with his 589th career power-play point, breaking a tie with Teemu Selanne.

Edmonton @ Phoenix 1-4
The Oilers held the Coyotes to one shot during the first seven minutes and took the lead at 3:03 of the first period on a nice give-and-go. Hall fed Draisaitl and beat Michael Stone off the left wall for the return pass. Hall drove to the net and put a backhander between Smith's pads for his seventh goal and 18th point in 17 games this season. Hall had three goals and five points in five games against the Coyotes last season. The Coyotes tied the game by getting traffic in front of Nilsson. With Brad Richardson setting a screen, Ekman-Larsson's shot from the deep left circle found the far top corner at 16:49. The Coyotes capitalized on a tripping penalty to Draisaitl in the second period to take the lead. Domi ran down a Tobias Rieder hard-around, won a battle on the boards and feathered a pass over the stick of Eric Gryba and onto the stick of Doan, who banged it past Nilsson at 13:47. Doan's fourth goal was his third on the power play this season and the 116th in his career, six behind Dale Hawerchuk's franchise record. He 372 career goals, seven behind Hawerchuk's franchise-best 379. But his true cheap shot colors were shown soon after when he tripped Taylor Hall. The Coyotes' fourth line doubled the lead late in the period. Kyle Chipchura dropped a pass for John Scott, who put a wrist shot on net that Elliott deflected. Nilsson stopped it, but the rebound went right back to Elliott and he swept in his first goal as a Coyote at 17:29 to put Phoenix up 3-1. Smith made a big glove save on Hall with 13:17 in the game to keep the two-goal lead intact before Domi put the game away at 11:28 when he got to the net and finished off a feed from Stone.
NY Islanders @ Los Angeles 1-2
Milan Lucic scored the game-winning goal on an odd bounce after he created a turnover on the forecheck. He went to the net for Tyler Toffoli's rebound and got a piece of the puck before it hit the skate of Johnny Boychuk and caromed into the goal at 3:28. Mikhail Grabovski drew tripping and hooking penalties to give the Islanders a two-man advantage for 44 seconds early in the third period, but they could not score. Nelson hit the left post. Drew Doughty's well-placed slap shot from the right point tied it 1-1 at 16:23 of the first, with Calvin de Haan serving his second penalty of the period, for tripping. It was Doughty's second goal in three games after he went without one in his first 13 games. Nelson beat Enroth with a wrist shot at 10:41 of the first. Nelson collected Kings center Nick Shore's clearing pass in the right circle and scored on a pinpoint shot past Enroth's left shoulder for his fourth goal.
