Carolina @ NY Rangers 0-3
Lundqvist passed Mike Richter in career appearances and saves for the Rangers in his first shutout of the season. The Rangers took command midway through the first period with goals 11 seconds apart by Fast and Nash. With Keith Yandle winding up at the left point for a dump-in to the far corner, Fast circled from below the right circle and clipped the skate of Michal Jordan, who fell backward. Jordan got up quickly and was on his feet by the time Yandle's dump-in was coming back off the boards, but he couldn't stop Emerson Etem from getting to the puck and passing it to Fast, whose slap shot beat Cam Ward for his third goal of the season at 9:21. Off the faceoff, the Rangers gained possession and Mats Zuccarello passed the puck ahead to Nash in the left circle. Nash, back in the lineup after missing the previous two games with a back injury, cut across to the middle of the slot and tucked a backhand around Ward for his second goal of the season at 9:32. McDonagh made it 3-0 13 seconds into the third period when his left-point shot bounced off the skate of Carolina defenseman Ron Hainsey and went in.
Vancouver @ Columbus 5-3
Brandon Sutter broke a 3-3 tie with 5:08 left, Daniel Sedin had a goal and three assists and Jannik Hansen set a career high with four points streak. Cam Atkinson gave Columbus a 3-2 lead at 8:01 of the third with a shorthanded goal, but it lasted until 10:05 when Henrik Sedin tipped in a centering pass from Hansen. Henrik Sedin scored an empty-net goal with 1:39 left. Jenner and Jack Johnson had power-play goals for the Blue Jackets in the first period; Daniel Sedin and Hansen set up each other for Vancouver's goals, which were scored at even strength.
Washington @ Detroit 0-1
Alex Ovechkin matched his NHL high for shots in a game but could not score to pass Sergei Fedorov for most career goals by a Russian-born player. Andreas Athanasiou scored his first NHL goal 4:06 into the third period for Detroit.
Athanasiou squeezed a shot between the left goalpost and Holtby from below the bottom of the left circle after a rush down left wing. Ovechkin shot off target twice, high and wide, on successive chances from his usual spot in the left circle on a Washington power play with a little less than seven minutes left in the first period. Mrazek also stopped Ovechkin's tip attempt with 2:25 left in the first period, and made a right- pad save with 7:05 remaining in the game. Ovechkin and Fedorov are tied with 483 NHL goals. Fedorov was inducted into the Hall of Fame on Monday and dropped the puck for a ceremonial faceoff between Ovechkin and Detroit captain Henrik Zetterberg.
Buffalo @ Tampa Bay 4-1
Jack Eichel scored his sixth goal on a power play at 5:57 of the first period. The rookie center one-timed a cross-ice pass from Franson past Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy high on the stick side for the 1-0 Sabres lead. The Lightning answered 52 seconds into the second period on Stamkos' eighth goal. Nikita Kucherov found Stamkos open in the left circle, and the Lightning captain sent a one-timer under the stick of Sabres goalie Chad Johnson to make it 1-1. Among Johnson's 30 saves was a diving glove stop against Kucherov at 2:54 of the second period on what looked like a sure goal. After Alex Killorn skated behind the Buffalo net from the left wing and centered the puck to Kucherov streaking down the right wing, Johnson dove across the goal crease to make the save.
Buffalo took a 2-1 lead when Franson's wrist shot deflected off the crossbar and into the net 48 seconds after Stamkos tied it. The Sabres added to their lead at 5:24 of the third period when Foligno took a wrist shot from the top of left circle that deflected off Vasilevskiy's glove and into the net to make it 3-1. Ristolainen scored an empty-net goal with 36 seconds remaining.
Calgary @ Florida 3-4
Jaromir Jagr scored the tiebreaking goal at 8:11 of the third period and had an assist, helping the Panthers defeat the Calgary Flames 4-3. Jagr scored on a shot along the ice past the glove of Flames goaltender Karri Ramo after getting the puck in front of the net and stickhandling around two defenders. It was the 729th goal of his NHL career; he is two behind Marcel Dionne for fourth place on the NHL's all-time list. Luongo made 25 saves, including a spectacular glove save on a slap shot from the high slot by Kris Russell with 6:12 remaining. It came seconds after Trocheck hit the post on a deflection and the goal light went on, although the referee immediately waved his arms to signal no goal. Sean Monahan scored late in the second period to tie the game at 3-3. The game was tied 3-3 entering the third period after the Flames erased a 3-1 deficit. Jones got Calgary within 3-2 at 6:35 of the second on a breakaway after getting a great outlet pass from Matt Stajan. Luongo got his glove on Jones' wrist shot, but the puck trickled into the net. Monahan tied it at 18:32 with a power-play goal. With Huberdeau in the penalty box for tripping, Monahan put home a loose puck in front of the net after TJ Brodie's wrist shot from the point bounced off teammate Jiri Hudler. Trocheck opened the scoring 5:16 into the game when the NHL's top-ranked home power play struck. With Russell in the box for interference, Trocheck put home a backhand after Ramo couldn't control Jokinen's seemingly harmless wrist shot from the left circle. Calgary tied it at 7:13, taking advantage of a turnover in the neutral zone when Huberdeau collided with teammate Brian Campbell at center ice. Joe Colborne grabbed the loose puck and after his back pass went off the skate of Ekblad, Jones put a shot past Luongo on the stick side. Smith gave Florida a 2-1 lead at 15:43 when he scored on a rebound after Trocheck won a faceoff in the Calgary zone. Ekblad made it 3-1 at 3:53 of the second when he one-timed Jagr's nifty pass across the front of the net behind Ramo.
"We won; that's a good thing. We feel like we didn't play our best. We have those seven home games, we have to make sure we play our best hockey and get some wins together. A win is good, but everybody felt like we should play a little better." Jagr said.
Phoenix @ Los Angeles 3-2
Brad Richardson has had a lot of special moments in Staples Center, and he added another memory when he scored the go-ahead goal with 8:13 remaining in the third period to give the Coyotes a 3-2 win. Richardson, a former King who played on their 2012 Stanley Cup championship team, redirected a centering pass from Jordan Martinook from between the legs of Brayden McNabb past goaltender Jonathan Quick. Hanzal made it 2-2 with a backhand that appeared to deflect off the stick of Martinez at 9:59 of the second. Oliver Ekman-Larsson created the loose puck with a throw-it-on-net shot.
Tyler Toffoli's 10th goal at 5:00 of the second period was a highlight of the game. He stopped Jamie McBain's shot-pass with his skate, then lifted a shot over defenseman Michael Stone and Smith from the left faceoff dot to give the Kings a 2-1 lead. It was their 10th power-play goal in the past 12 games. Hanzal intercepted McNabb's clearing attempt and tied it 1-1 at 11:37 of the first. McNabb was behind the goal line and his pass to the right side was picked off by Hanzal, who beat Quick (22 saves) with a wrist shot from the high slot. Brown snapped a 19-game scoring drought dating to April 2 of last season when he opened the scoring 5:54 into the game on a tap-in of a rebound from the crease.
