• Another day, another reminder that the lockout is still going on and that you, the hockey fan, has missed 626 regular-season games, the NHL Winter Classic in Ann Arbor, Mich., and the All-Star weekend in Columbus. This is so stupid.
• In case you missed it on Friday: An update on where everything stands.
• The NHL and NHLPA spent most of the day on Friday meeting separately with mediator Scot Beckenbaugh. For more than 12 hours, Beckenbaugh went back and forth between the sides doing his best to help find a middle ground for the remaining open issues. The sides never had face-to-face negotiations. Those mediation sessions are expected to resume at 10:30 a.m. ET on Saturday. [Pat Leonard on Twitter]
• The NHLPA once again voted to give its leadership the power to file a disclaimer of interest. That vote will continue until 6 p.m. ET on Saturday, but it's believed that it received the necessary votes to allow it on Friday. [Nick Kypreos]
• Ottawa Senators defenseman Chris Phillips isn't happy with the NHL and its tactics.
"Basically, they changed the definition [of hockey related revenue], where there would be no accountability in terms of accounting," Phillips told the Ottawa Sun on Friday. "So they could basically give us whatever number they wanted to.
"It's great that we're at 50-50 now, but 50-50 of what? That's just ridiculous. We're trying to get a deal done and negotiate in good faith, and they pull garbage like that. That's not going to get anything done." [Ottawa Sun]
• Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang has decided to sign with the KHL until the lockout ends. [Tribune Review]
