HC Sochi v Vityaz 5-4
The only KHL game of the day produced plenty of action as HC Sochi narrowly beat Vityaz. Initially things seemed fairly straightforward for the home team: after recovering from an early goal from Maxim Afinogenov, Sochi moved into a 3-1 lead by the second intermission. Denis Kazionov, Ilya Krikunov and Andrei Kostitsyn found the target. But Vityaz hit back with two quick goals at the start of the final session. Vyacheslav Solodukhin took advantage of a power play before Igor Musatov levelled the scores on 42:10. Sochi called a time out, and whatever Vyacheslav Butsayev said had an immediate impact as Kazionov scored his second of the night to put his team in front once again. The game-winner came from Igor Ignatushkin in the 50th minute, created by Krikunov and aided by some lax defense that gave the home captain plenty of time to pick his spot and make it 5-3. Vityaz wasn’t quite done, pulling one goal back in the 58th minute through Dmitry Shitikov and testing Konstantin Barulin in the last minute with a powerful effort from Nikita Vyglazov, but Sochi held on to take the victory.
